If Ronaldo is there, then Jones will start. If we go with a 3 man Midfield then he'll play.

He's all about the possesion basically. Doesn't give enough creativity yet to play as a AM.

I thought it would be him in place of Kagawa instead of Giggs. Was really surprised when Giggs got the nod ahead of him.

So was I. Can't say Giggs let us down but I thought we needed the fresh legs to keep the pressing on the ball. I always trust SAF knows what he is doing in these matches though.

I disagree, Giggs was the right one to come on. I just would have expected him to start actually

Yeah, I trust in the great man as well, but I couldn't help but think that Giggs was going to struggle to get back when Madrid attacked. He had a great chance at the end as well, gutted he didn't take the shot.

It was nice to see the madrid fans clapping as giggs came on. He deserves the praise.

That slide tackle then dusting arbeloa for pace was brilliant

Once he finds that balance of when to break forward and when to sit he's going to be great. I was disappointed he didn't control the game more but he really upped it for the period when we scored our goals.

Yep it was him taking the game by the scruff of the neck that changed the game

I liked it when he breaks into the inside right channel, he's got a cross on him.

I'm getting slightly concerned, seems to do the simple things quite well but when it comes to shooting or passing the ball forward at times he can be careless.

He was great in the second half I thought. That period prior to RvP coming on he was getting about and trying to lift the momentum outside the box.

Some dodgy passing tonight from him on a few occasions. Gave the ball away in our half a few times.

Not a bad game overall though, by any means.

Poor game for him today, misplaced a couple of passes in dangerous areas, and never looked in control.

I thought he was superb tonight, kept the ball moving and ticking along. Not sure why others think he was so bad, his work off the ball was excellent.

Not his best performance today.

Was good in parts. Bad in parts like Ando. Though probably better than him overall.

He did decently when he played there for some part against Tottenham earlier this season.

On his 2/3 loans he was mostly used wide too. Scored goals from there.

Work rate and tracking back is solid enough too and he's deceptively quick, he'd help no end with ball retention too.

I'm liking his new found confidence with shots outside the box. There's No harm in having a CM that likes to have a pop. He could have scored too.

This. How have so many missed it?

And those claiming he was motm tonight better give me some of what they are having because the World, his dog, SAF himself & bizarrly even all the media agree that Nani pissed the motm.

The 15 minute spell which led to Nani's goal he was excellent, looked quick, sharp quick passing, almost glided around, hopefully there's more to come from that, those saying he was shit are probably the same people slating Welbeck, both have BIG futures here.

I love Cleverley, he's far from the finished article but you can see what he has. When he learns to impose himself you just know he's going to be special. I was really impressed with the way he was wanting the ball, not just wanting the ball but actively seeking the ball in the way Scholes would do. He wanted to be involved in everything through the middle and that was really encouraging.

Nani was clearly the MOTM but I thought Cleverley was close. He put in a very good performance, he is always available and generally does something positive with the ball when he gets it.

We would've walked all over them today if Carrick had started with him.

It's still worrying the hell out of me that we still can't seem to find a consistently good partnership without Carrick.

Thought Cleverley was very mediocre today so surprised people are considering him for motm. 52:20 mark was indicative of his performance. Wayward passing and in that case almost put us in a very dangerous spot.

He was the only bloke on our team who was actually a) moving around and b)demanding the ball in the first half. Anderson only seemed to become interested in the game after his mate came on, and before that point it looked like Cleverley was in the middle by himself at times. Yeah he misplaced a few easy passes, I felt he was the only man on our team who was actually trying to play football.

Good game overall, not MOTM (see Nani) but not a poor game (see poor opinions) by any stretch.

Cleverley has played about 40 games for us...to that extent he is still learning his trade. This is his first full season without any injury so he can start to get some consistency in his game.

In contrast, Anderson has over 150 and Carrick over 300...

I don't know many midfielders who are 'running' the game with that sort of inexperience. Particularly with Fergie changing the team so often and other players hardly on their best form.

He is only going to get better.

Watching the game on MUTV again...

Cleverley watch...

0-10 mins...7/8 successful passes, two tackles, one good run into Reading third and ball into box for Welbeck...one misplaced pass out to touch.

11-20 mins...Reading playing long balls into box and bypassing our midfield...3/3 successful passes...one 30 yard run to own corner flag to support Smalling...clearance upfield

21-30 mins...7/7 successful passes...one shot from 25 yards forcing keeper to make a good save...one lost possession from throw in

31-40 mins...7/8 successful passes...one easy pass to Jones/Anderson who looked at each other and it went out for throw-in...one shot on target blocked...one good run into Reading third...one block tackle...once dispossessed while running at defence...

41 mins-HT...9/9 successful passes...one block tackle...one pass found Nani but put him under pressure...one tackle to win possession...one shot off target

First Half Summary:

33/35 successful passes
3 shots (2 on target)
3 tackles to win possession
2 blocks
1 clearance from corner flag
2 lost possessions

46-55 mins...5/7 successful passes...one poor pass across pitch but then pressed for next 60 seconds forcing Reading deep into own half...other pass was a long ball forward trying to find Welbeck but a little too long...one quick throw-in...one shot on target blocked...

56-65 mins...3/4 successful passes...cross into box which led to corner...one tackle...one forward run into box and cross which led to clearance...

66-75 mins...11/11 successful passes...2 interceptions...1 tackle near corner flag....one pass out to Nani whose cross set up Hernandez...

76-85 mins...2/2 successful passes...one 40 yard run to make available for throw-in...2 blocks...lots of covering as Reading attacked more and had a bit of possession

85 mins-FT...4/5 successful passes...one clearance from deep in own third...one tackle leading to late free kick from Nani...

Fulltime Summary:

58/64 successful passes (91%)
4 shots (3 on target)
6 tackles to win possession
4 blocks
2 interceptions
2 clearances from corner flag
2 lost possessions

This summary doesn't include all the pressing work, covering, making runs to support team mates, off the ball running etc which is hard to analyse...

Make of this what you want but it doesn't sound like someone who had a poor game and who kept giving the ball away as some on here have intimated.

Good summary Mr. Mujac, but still my impression stays the same, I think it was one of his poorer performances this season. I maybe got the wrong impression becase it's unusual to watch him withouth Cleverley, mind you.

Yeah, i agree with Amar. Good summary Mr. Mujac but don't think it was his best performance. OK'ish.

I cant imagine he's fallen out of favour so is Fergie just managing his games to ensure he's fresh for the run in?
