I thought the communication between Kagawa and Cleverley was very good, I hope those two get to play with Anderson in some easier game, with Rooney, Van Persie and Welbeck in front, it would fun to watch.

Worth noting that Carrick and Cleverley played well together, for those that were worried about the combination.

People were going mental about this combination when the line ups were posted based on the...er...20 minutes or so in which they'd played together beforehand.

Mental good or mental bad?

A lot of us were saying it could be a good combination, as I recall.

A lot of it had to do with how deep Rooney was playing, almost made it a three in midfield. Still not convinced it would work in our usual system.

Bad. Mental is a strong word, but there was a lot of unwarranted pessimism. I don't see why Carrick and Cleverley couldn't work provided they were both in decent form. Enough defensive know how and ability in possession there.

They can work, but not as a two man midfield, they need someone else in there, which is why Rooney has been dropped into a deeper role this season.

Think that's what we'll be seeing more of from now on. We need to go all out and play all of Anderson, Cleverley, Nani, Kagwa, Van Persie and Rooney one day against one of the weaker teams though just to see what happens.

With Rafael and Buttner being the fullbacks bombing forward.

Against Newcastle Evra reminded us of the player he used to be, and showed us he can still be that player. On that evidence he's still very much part of our best defensive line-up.

I'm well aware of that fact and still consider him to be the clear cut first choice LB, however I wasn't talking about our best line-up, but rather one I'd very much like to see and would be very intrigued of

When do we play Reading? They seem the perfect team to play that system against. They don't have a powerful midfield, a poor defence and are on utter shit form.

Technique from a number of passes and crosses tonight are Beckham-esque.

Much better in central midfield than in an attacking midfielder/2nd striker sort of position.

93 passes at 96% accuracy already in the 57th minute, according to whoscored.com

Playing against basically a pub team, as much as I like him nobody's performance means anything tonight.

You can only beat the team in front of you etc, and no matter who you're playing against, a 97% completion rate is brilliant. Not to mention the type of passes, he was playing quick pass and move football, finding space as soon as he released the ball. Encouraging to see.

It's fecking San Mario. We were camped in their half pretty much the entire game. They made England look like an amazing possession-based team.

Whilst I agree that you can't take anything from a game against San Marino it's still good to see him play well irrespective of who it's against.

We´re not playing Reading until 1 December, away. But we have Cluj at home the 5th, but City away four days later, so unless we have to beat Cluj we probably won´t see any first team players in that match - and the system in question.

Jesus, his website is the gayest thing I've ever seen.
Why the hell does he have a website? That's very 2002. On the bright side it's quite a quantum leap (bizarrely a very short distance) from Gattusso's (hopefully) dead website I visited maybe seven years ago. I think it actually was an Amsterdam trance party judging by the design and music, I could swear you could by Ecstacy off that site.

I dont think his crossing is in Beckham's style, he has his own style for them using more of the side of his foot. Its weird but it works for him most of the time, but they dont tend to have much pace on them

He is definitely progressing well. He has started to get a bit more end product into his play. San Marino means nothing but it is certainly better to play well against them rather than be absolute garbage, like our right back was last night.

It doesn't mean a great deal but it shows his concentration and hunger. How many times have we seen other England players turn up and go through the motions and put out a drab performance?

Judging Tom on last nights performance is irrelevant. It was pretty obvious from last seasons pre-season, and his start to the last Premiership campaign he was going to be some player.

What's really impressed me is his versatility. He's played well as a more defensive midfielder, keeping the game ticking over. I know he faced some criticism for not playing more risky, expansive passes but at the end of the day he keeps possession fantastically well, and looks wise beyond his years. Against Newcastle more recently he operated as more of a wide midfielder, and didn't look out of place carrying the ball upfield. He had great energy and his work for the team was only overshadowed by a superb performance by Rooney. He's then gone on to play a far more attacking role with the national team, and has really staked his claim to be in the starting XI (although typically he'll probably get replaced by Gerrard and Lampard now).

He's a fantastic talent, and although he might get overhyped by us fans occasionally he really does have the talent and drive to become a fantastic midfielder.
