i ve never had any doubts about his ability, my only concern is about his fitness.

I dont think his crossing is in Beckham's style, he has his own style for them using more of the side of his foot. Its weird but it works for him most of the time, but they dont tend to have much pace on them

I know what you mean about his technique, it's peculiar. When he shapes to hit a cross or place a shot his right arm is drawn up with his right foot, wheras a normal technique would see the left arm drawn up parallel with the right foot.

It's like he scoops the ball while pivoting on his left foot to create spin, don't see a technique like that often...it's certainly unconventional and definitely nothing like Beckham....not sure why that comparison was made.

If someone made a gif of his crosses just showing his feet, I'm pretty sure most would find it hard to differentiate him and Becks (I'm talking about a couple of crosses from last nights game).

Again, Beckham uses the inside of his toe to curve the ball with pace on his delivery and put it right in front of the attacker

Cleverley was hitting it with the side of his foot also with curl but with little pace on it. Its not the same technique, they both just move their arm and curl the ball

It doesn't mean a great deal but it shows his concentration and hunger. How many times have we seen other England players turn up and go through the motions and put out a drab performance?

Aye. He always wants the ball and does not seem short on confidence either.

He signed a contract extension in 2010 when he was at Watford.. signed a improved deal after he broke into the first team a year ago and now there are talks of another new/improved contract.

3 contracts in 3 years.
Kids prove themselves, they get paid. Hope some of the u18s take note.

Anyone know how Fryers is doing at Leige?

Finally watched the match. Cleverley was quite impressive. His decision-making was spot on and he just never stopped going. It was a pleasure watching him buzz all over the pitch with such ease. He looked really confident. Granted it was San Marino but there were some players out there who had a poor game against poor opposition. It goes both ways. He played some really nice passes as well. 7 chances created, 2 assists, 165 touches, 97% pass completion mostly sums it up. So glad I bought a Cleverley top. My mates gave me stick over it and some United fans would snicker as they walked past me. I never really cared but good to see Tom showing some promise and hopefully more people will see what he brings to the team.

Not sure what Roy will do when the older players become fit but I hope Tom gets a chance. He lets his football do the talking and I think it merits enough to keep him in the side. His urgency kept our tempo going throughout and we should reward good form.

Everytime I watch him, I get the impression that he is really observing and learning how Scholes plays and genuinely applying it to his game. Parts like always wanting the ball, passing and moving, knowing when to keep it simple and when to try a Hollywood pass

The English Media are hilarious, Cleverley for me was one of the few players who approached the game in a Professional manner and for me was the best player on the pitch. According to Stan Collymore however Cleverley's passing was a bit off and he lacks the guile and imagination for Int'l Football. Cleverley's passing was 141 completed out of 145 attempted, this is precisely why English Football doesn't deserve nice things.

Precisely why Stan Collymore is a two-bit pundit, after an underwhelming career in the game, who nobody gives a shit about.

Why are you surprised by what Collymore said? People on these boards say similar things about Cleverley all the time. People said similar things about Scholes when he played for England too. It's just part of our psyche as a footballing nation that we English want the ball down the other end of the pitch as fast as possible regardless of how sensible it is to hit it long. People will forgive half a dozen Hollywood passes so long as one goes right cf. Gerrard. What Cleverley does, his composure, quick thinking, pass and move...it's not valued or wanted by England. As soon as Gerrard, Barry, Parker and the rest are back Clev will be dropped. It's sad but we all know its true. 'Passion', 'Energy' and hitting it down the channel are what you need to succeed for England. Just look at how the ITV pundits were gushing over Jonjo Shelvey for doing a bit of aimless running. I'd be shocked to see Clev have a real international career. The silver lining being that means he'll be even more available for Utd.

I'm not surprised by Collymore, I was just using him as an example why English Football doesn't deserve nice things. He's a shit pundit who for some reason has 300,000 followers on Twitter and consequently a large audience to peddle his shit to, he's not the only one either.

I'm pretty sure a lot of his followers do so because its fun to laugh at his bellendery. Like Robbie Savage.,

I hear ya

For me story of the San Marino game was the goal Welbeck scored after Cleverley's cross, especially after the money spent on St.George's Park, no one in the media has even picked that up.

I ignore it as best I can to avoid becoming infuriated. I'm beyond fed up with our media. We laud Spain for their passing and movement on and off the ball but somehow when we have a player who exemplifies some of those characteristics, we wonder why he didn't long ball it to Carroll more often  It's just bonkers. Do we want to move forward or what?!?!

Cleverley is playing for England. He is English and has come to the fore at an English club playing the right way and with the right attitude. Some fans are poor judges of football and some pundits make money being controversial. As a result the "English" don't deserve the players they produce who are or at least have the potential to be excellent players.

That is some truly fecked up thinking right there.

I was saying it tongue-in-cheek, and to be fair you'd be surprised how widely held these views are. Go to a Sunday League game and see how much shit is regurgitated from what they heard these incompetent pundits say on the weekend.

A tad unfair he was a very good player all be it a loose cannon but he had a pretty good career.

Collymore is talking some RAWK level shot about Welbeck and Cleverley, probably on purpose to get that sort of ABU fan onside.

And to think he started off his youth career as a left-back. Whoever decided to shift him into midfield deserves a big bit of credit

Supposedly the coaches only put him at LB to give him more experience in defending.

Collymore was an unbelievable footballing talent back in the day but he was and always will be a shithead.

He never lived upto his potential after his move to Liverpool, considering he went for a then British transfer record

Collymore was one of the most naturally gifted strikers I ever saw, he just never had the ability to take it to the next level.

None of my mates rate Cleverley, just because he sometimes can't finish easy chances he's shit apparently

Like I said your mates aren't alone. Its funny that so many people seem to know so much more than the coaches and experts who have worked with the best young players at United over the years e.g.

;)

He suffered a lot from depression, which probably stopped him fulfilling his potential.

Yeah they think that they know all about this stuff, jokes on them though, most of them are spurs fans  so they don't know shit.

Wow. That is a huge statement and praise for TC!
