Everytime I watch him, I get the impression that he is really observing and learning how Scholes plays and genuinely applying it to his game. Parts like always wanting the ball, passing and moving, knowing when to keep it simple and when to try a Hollywood pass

Come on, admit it. He looks and plays aesthetically like Scholes. (Not ability)

Still don't know what his best attribute is yet.

Don't know if this is a good or bad thing. Seems to be good at all the the traits a midfeilder should have but doesn't have the exceptional ability in one - pace, power, passing, dribbling, shooting, vision.

He will still develop so who knows what lies ahead. Based on now, he is like Arteta, solid overall.

Im in the same boat as you, Im not sure what his best attribute is. He has gotten a lot better and I think that once he finds his best position in the team he will flourish.

At the moment his key attributes are his appreciation of space and ability to find it, awareness of those around him, as well as an excellent first touch, close control and short to medium passing game. He also has a good centre of gravity and the energy and intelligence to put all these traits together.

Most of these qualities are uncommon for an English midfielder so its no wonder the media/opposition fans are taking a while to warm to him as they are not used to seeing players of his style develop in this country.

The thing with Cleverley is that he has only just turned 23 and hasn't started 30 games for United yet. If he stays injury free and can reach 80 to 100 games over the next couple of years then he will improve so much, especially in terms of positioning and experience which will then improve his effectiveness on games. Arteta isn't a bad comparison and if he can go on to emulate him I would be delighted.

I think Cleverley is a terrific player in the making from what I've seen of him.

(On a side note: England are going to be a class side in a few years time once this crop of players fulfil their potential)

You'd think so...but it just never seems to go to plan with England! As ever, I suppose it's heavily reliant on the players' development and their ability to avoid injury. Even now, the two best up and coming talents we've had since Rooney - Wilshere and Smalling - have suffered dreadfully already with injury. Cleverley and Jones aren't exactly injury free either.

You're right though - we may actually produce a team in the not too distant future capable of winning whilst playing decent football.

I keep changing my mind regarding how good Cleverley will end up being. On the one hand, he looks very much like a jack of all trades and master of none. On the other hand, it looks like his movement alone and drive to be better may well put him in the top bracket at some point. Said it during the US Open funnily enough, but Cleverley reminds me of the footballing equivalent of Andy Murray. Not amazing at any one skill in particular, but will probably hammer the basics until he's top class. Drive alone will take him far, but he's got good all round ability too.

Maybe, but that all depends.

For example, the media reckon Tom will be binned tonight in favour of Mr. Hollywood Ball himself.

Would love to see a team with Cleverley and Wilshire in it

Come across as very level headed and grounded in that interview, far cry from the general perception of him.

Every morning I wake up and think how lucky I am to be playing for the team which all my boyhood heroes played for and for my country.’’

Lovely quote.

If this is the future England midfield, do you think it needs a third man in there? And if so, who?

Play Rooney as he played against Newcastle. Both Wilshire and Cleverley are tenacious enough in midfield.

Cleverley-Wilshere
Rooney

Listening to Collymore's show now. So depressing... They moan when we don't pass now they moaning because we pass to much. People seem to forget Cleverley's only young he's not going to do Riquelme like passing over night, that will come. I just hope he keeps getting the games.

I keep saying it, him and Wilshere will be the closest England ever get to Xavi and Iniesta in a long time.

Outstanding today, would love to see how many touches he had.

Great performance and I'm usually very cautious when it comes to praising him.He gave everything, he looked completely knackered in the end.Very happy for him

His best game for a while. Passing and chasing for the ball excellent.

Cleverley does have a particular way of hitting the ball. The way he shapes his body I mean

Yea, it was emphasised during his cross/shot goal against the geordies, it's the huge lean and the way his shapes his foot.

I wasn't convinced for him and preferred Ando instead, but he is proving me wrong. He should start against Chelsea too.

He's done really, really well in the last three-four matches that he has started. Excellent to see him playing upto his full potential, to think that could've happened last season if not for that Davies tackle.

If he doesn't start against Chelsea, I'm going to kill myself.

It's always reassuring when a youngster like him helps to bail us out of a bad situation. We've relied too much on our veterans when things aren't going well. Cleverley was just superb I thought. You've gotta admire his willingness to receive the ball and do something useful with it. I believe our continued faith in him will be rewarded time and time again.

It reminds me of a certain other player.
