He's been shocking this season. Genuinely awful. However, I still think he's got it in him to turn it around. Hopefully a manager like Van Gaal will be able to get Cleverley back doing what he always did best, which was quick pass and move in the final third.

I have a feeling Tom thinks he's some kind of spanish flavor in the team, he should really take a hard look at himself because his season along with his interviews have been an embarrassment. Home grown and all that, but he should go if he doesn't show any sign of progress in the next couple of months.

I don't agree with this. What gives you that feeling exactly? As far as I know, Cleverley made a comment on how the game is appreciated differently in Spain compared to England, e.g., how passing the ball sideways is complemented, keeping the ball and playing a simple game is appreciated, and so on.

The most disappointing aspect of this season has been squad management. Moyes didn't utilise players properly. The likes of Kagawa, Cleverley, Smalling, Hernández, Ferdinand, etc. "suffered" under him. Cleverley's best form for us this season started in our Champions League game against Shakhtar Donetsk (H) and ended against Norwich (A). In between these games, he performed well against Aston Villa (A), Stoke (A), West Ham (H), and Hull (A). After our game against Sunderland (A) in the League Cup, he was barely used, even after his good performance against Arsenal (A). Instead, Moyes decided to use Fellaini in a box-to-box role, which isn't his best role IMO. And it's been said so many times, but he's our scapegoat for this season, which doesn't make sense to me because Fellaini and Fletcher haven't done much either. So how can we expect decent performances from players if they're barely utilised? What gives me hope is that Cleverley has improved on his defending this season. The next step for him is to make himself available more - he's not done that as much as one would like this season - and be more ambitious in his passing. There's no problem with him being a squad player. This is a player who has performed very well against big clubs (Arsenal, Real Madrid, etc.), so surely he can't be that average.

I honestly think hes been that bad today, tried a few long passes today and has looked sharp on the ball. Granted hes not a Scholes but hes not been bad at all.

He's been watching plenty of la liga and likes their sideways passing. Perhaps Getafe would be interested in him

He's been alright. Just not that great though, him not being good or adventurous enough is the problem. He's been decent though, just a few poor passes, expected given he's barely played.

Gives movement, energy and sharpness to the midfield. As @crossy1686 said he hasn't set the world on fire, but pretty good performance from him so far. Rooney had an air-shot as well — so what?

He has somehow lost his ability to play football, Van Gaal will have a challenge trying to get Tom back to a high standard.

This is the thread that gets bumped at half time? He's been okay, certainly not the biggest of our problems so far. There are a few more players who deserve more criticism that Cleverley.

Exactly. Can't right everything in one half after not being played in awhile.

He's having a decent game considering he hasn't played for a while. Is getting himself around the pitch well.

Poor performance this season though I've seen a few great games from him this season against Sunderland (A), Aston Villa (A), Arsenal (A) and Chelsea (H). But overall are just not good enough. However If Anderson got 5 seasons then why can't we give Cleverley another chance. They say midfield's fully potential is between 28-33 years old.

Arghhh he will never be good enough he is totally shite. I'd rather see Jones or Fellaini or even Giggs in there instead of TC23 ship him off to Wigan Ill pay the taxi fare myself

Something is really wrong when half of the caf are seeing lost puppies instead of football players on the pitch. This sums up Thomas Cleverley.
I've created a photoshop which explains it. I probably shouldn't put it up though.

His confidence is at rock bottom and he's far more hesitant than when he first came onto the scene. He is at least working hard, making himself available and not hiding which is good. Hopefully he can play himself out of this dreadful lull.

People have to realise that Cleverley has been in and out of the team all season. I can imagine his confidence, match fitness and sharpness is all low, which is the same reason some people on the match day thread were making as an excuse as to why Hernandez missed his one on one today.

Considering all the reasons mentioned above, I think Cleverley had a decent game. I still think he has a lot more to offer, though.

Cleverly runs around alot - thats it. He does feck all 90% of the time but side-pass & back-pass. Remember his shot on goal in the 1st half, where the ball hit his standing foot as he went to strike it? That sums him up & folk need to stop backin him just because he came through the ranks. Offers nothing whatsoever - not United quality at all!

If folk are sayin he played very well today - then he must have been playin with Down Syndrome all season...

If he wasn't home grown I doubt many would be so patient with him. I think someone has to go from the midfield this summer to make room for the 2 CM's we need, it's between him and the mop IMO.

Martinez wants him.....

Cleverly will be fine under a proper manager.

EDIT: I hope we don't sell him.

If he goes to Everton, a lot of idiots on here will have to swallow their words. Martinez is the sort of manager who knows how to use players like Cleverley. He's made him shine before, and he's capable of doing it again. We'd probably end up hearing 'why didn't we just keep Cleverley, he's playing brilliantly for Everton?' a lot.

He shouldn't be first choice for us, obviously. But Anderson's gone, Giggs won't play next season I don't think, and Fellaini will hopefully be discarded by any half-decent manager. So if we buy two top midfielders, Carrick, Fletcher and Cleverley will make for good back-up.
