I was talking about cleaning, might see Cleverley a bit better on your TV then.

Looks like your wit isn't as sharp as I thought as you had to go back and edit that into your post. On reflection I'm not sure your tissue gag was as cutting edge as I'd first thought. Glad you haven't descended into being childish yet.

The problem with Tom is the hype on here has ridiculous levels.

Even a simple 5 yard pass is met with a acclaim.

Problem is when a player is hyped so much, he'll get criticized very easily when eventually he has a dip in form. Evans suffered something similar after his first season.

I thought Tom was average at best today.

I'm sad again now, can I have my tissues back?

Give him his tissues back acnumber9
Be funny if you used them to wank first. Oh, has someone already used a tissue/wank joke? Shit!

Thought that he was fairly poor today. I was reading his stats earlier in the season and I thought then he needs to get more touches on the ball. Our midfield was dominated by Ajax today. He is neat and tidy when he is one the ball but too often on the periphery of the game.

So he isn't the saviour anymore then? Was crazy for people to rate him so highly based on a few performances in the first team, when even Anderson was playing well and considering he's been out injured for months i doubt we will see what he really has to offer until he is given a consistent run in the team with a solid midfield partner. He is an exciting prospect, but let's not go too overboard just yet.

Redcafe  How this thread and Carrick threads have changed. He wasnt given the ball enough imo. Then again I didnt think our midfield looked balanced with him next to Park but at least he got minutes. Was hoping to see him with Scholes but ill be happy if we dont rush him.

He wasn't poor the midfield just had a very difficult job to do today. Park and Cleverley were paired together because they both needed games, those two against a midfield 3 (or even a decent midfield 2) was always going to be shit, can't judge the lad on that for christ sake.

Who's judging him on one game?

I have no problem with 5 yard passes being met with acclaim. Iniesta and Xavi do well out of it.

Listen - this guy is coming back from 5 months out injured give him a break.

Everyone who's passed comment on his performance today?

I wasn't talking directly to you dear, no need to be so defensive. I don't really care if you don't see the hype, not my job to convince you. The rest of us will just take enjoyment out of hyping the talents we do see.

This guy single handedly beat Barcelona last summer, I think we're all forgetting that tonight.

Surely they're doing that based on all his games in just the same way those who have the counter opinion are.

I know you weren't. I'm quite alright. Just asking what you were talking about.

Streets ahead? He hasn't played anywhere near enough games to come to that opinion. I could take a ten game sample of Anderson's career and give better performances.

Comparing the two isn't the best way of proving he's living up to his hype. Anderson has fallen short of the required performance level to date so saying Cleverley is better proves very little. He's a long way to go.

go

He didn't do much wrong at all. There was so many times he made forward runs or made himself available for the ball and he was ignored. Didn't have a proper partner today and it showed. With that being said, he could of been a bit more assertive and could have picked the ball up from the defense a few more times.

Count me among those who didn't think he was bad tonight. Obvious that he's still getting his fitness and not being paired with another central midfielder probably held him back a bit, but given the circumstances I actually thought he played quite well.

This.

In our desperation for someone to come in to midfield with some quality people have turned 10-games Tom into the new Zidane. It's ridiculous. He's clearly got some ability but let's just see...

Given that he was off for a while, it was to be expected that he would not last the 90 minutes. He was paired with park who offered no assistance so it looked far worse than it was.

Some more game time and he should improve.

I agree with you and OTP.It's Evans all over again.
Tom is clearly a talented player but some of the optimism shown when he does some of the most basic stuff in football is a bit embarrassing.

Not his fault today as he had to play next to Park Ji Sung in midfield who is not a regular there.Still did his job.

Also central mid fields work in combinations and Park-Cleverley is not a very good one.

I think he played well. Not brilliant but better than a lot here are making out. He was always wanting the ball and very rarely wasting possession. Played some good attacking passes as well as keeping things ticking over, and made some good runs as well.

Defensively I don't recall him doing anything of note although nor do I recall any major feckups.

Put him next to carrick imo.

Harsh to judge him when it was his second match from a lengthy injury layoff and he was partnered with a winger in the midfield. When he was paired with Scholesy in the first match, it was no surprise that he did really well in that much.

FWIW, I don't think he was poor in yesterday's match.

Average match, but it was clear as a day that the midfield constellation didn't work at all.

Cleverley and Park wasn't covering for each other, they had no real understanding of where they wanted to be defensively, and they ran in the way of each other defensively.

He'll come good when partnered with a midfielder.

I blame the constellation as well, not enough stars.

Lost in translation I'm afraid.

"Konstellasjon" in Norwegian basically means "composition of" in English. My bad.

The composition of the midfield was what I was trying to say then. Right.

I don't think he's been that overhyped personally, however, people have pinned their hopes of our whole team free-flowing football again on his return, which is ridiculous.

He hasn't just come out of the reserves, he's played a lot of games on loan and showed his ability. He played practically the same amount of premiership games as Welbeck last season and was fantastic at Watford the season before. He's 22 now, not some fresh out of the reserves talent like Pogba. I think it's easy enough to have a good grasp of his talents.

FA set to announce Tom Cleverley is out of the England squad to play Holland next week. Damaged ankle during Ajax game last night

What the feck?

I would say this is probably a "Fergie International injury" ... but then you'd assumed he would pick that up in the Norwich game??

If Carrick doesn't get called up now, Pearce is an even bigger Ihni binni dimi diniwiny anitaime then I first imagined.

Let's hope it's just a precaution and us not wanting him to take the risk
