Toby Alderweireld

Market forces determine players values and in last 2 years the market has gone mad, so be it £50m, £60m £70m or higher they are the prices in today's market for a top defender.

Levy will not budge and Toby wants game time and knows if not sold he will have to sign a contract to get game time, hence next to no games after his injury last season as he was available after injury from January but only played a few cup games and then last few league games on Belgium manager request for him to be match fit for WC.

Any move to United will have to include Martial or there will be no deal, Spurs have made an offer for Saha which in principal Palace have agreed to, so now its in your court, deal with Martial and very quickly or no deal will be Levy stance and we all know how stubborn he is.
Oh yeah, we better hurry, better to give Martial and maybe 50 million as sweetener to please Lord Levy or I'm afraid we are going to miss out on the 29 year old injury prone CB:rolleyes:

After reading comments like theses, I would rather we pay a 100 million to Leicester for Maguire than United giving Spurs Martial or any player for that matter. You know Toby won't be signing a new contract just like Martial but the thing is Martial doesn't have a 25 million release clause.

Oh no, we better give in to Spurs' demands quick or we'll be sorry! Levi isn't an evil genius ffs, he's a bald bellend. We're not going to give you Martial for a 29 year old defender, we'll simply tell you to get fecked and go and do business with another club.

I don’t think anyone truly gives a shit about resale value in all truth.

What I can’t stand is short termism in the transfer market. Why pay £75 million on a player that’s only got a year or two at the top left when you could sign an alternative player that sorts the position out for the best part of a decade?

I’d bite your arm off if we could sign a 30 year old Rio and Ronaldo for £150 million as that calibrate of players almost guarantees the title. But does anyone seriously believe that spending £150 million on Willian and Toby would make us title favourites? Not a chance!

Good players, but not great players and we should be targeting great players if they are going to be short term signings for big money.

Personally I rather get Saha over Martial and keep Toby as that would be a win win situation and as for Toby being injury prone . He had a hammy, most players have those. He was out for about 50 days which is the normal thing. He didn't play after that as he went back on his word over a new contract, that may now well change as Levy will not bow down as you all seem to think.

Anyway as a newbie I can only post 3 times a day so no more from me here today.

Spurs don't even need Toby. Giving him a new contract will be risky especially with his injuries. Also they have a fixed CB pairing in Vertonghen and Sanchez.
50-60 million for Toby is easy money for Spurs IMO, buy a young CB like De Ligt for 40 and they have a player who could be potentially WC plus 20 mill in change. Instead they are keeping a player who clearly is not interested in staying and now may feel forced to sign a new contract.

Spurs fans should be pissed off IMO. Levy is overplaying his hand, he is not getting Martial plus he's about to loose tens of millions by refusing to negotiate for Toby or is going to have to keep an unhappy player.
Also feel free to buy Zaha for 60-70 million :smirk:

Why would Martial even want to go to Spurs?! Even if we included him in the deal he might just say no. The guy wants game time, preferably in his preferred position up front I'd imagine, which is the main reason he's pushing to leave. What gaurantee is there that he'll get this at Spurs?

Unless Spurs are planning to sell one of their front four from last season it doesn't make sense, he'll just sit on the bench as cover and would end up playing a similar amount to what he would if he stays at United. How will this restart his career?

Any potential deal for Alderweireld isn't being held up by Martial, it's being held up by Levy waiting to the last minute to try and extract as much money as he possibly can from the deal, that United will buckle and pay through the nose.

If Spurs have bid for Zaha then that transfer makes a lot more sense, he can actually play RW. Palace will want a huge fee though.

Of course, we're not a selling club so why should we care about resale value?

Because resale value increases purchase power. Rare are the players that are good enough to be solid contributors for a very long period of time, I believe that it's SAF who mentioned that the natural cycle of a team lasted 3 or 4 years, if you want to always be in a strong position you need to be able to maximize your investment by using a player for 3-4 years and then sell and replace him with a part of the money that he generated. Of course not all players are concerned by this, some players have the ability to play 10 years for a club without losing much steam but these are rare.

Just go and get him, 45 million double what they get next season after release clause comes in. Then go get mina from Barca 35 million.. sell Jones, rojo..even smalling.. Still have 3 cbs ..or keep smalling.? Just hurry up and get them

Is there any reason you repeatedly keep writing saha?

That Toby photoshop is incredible to be honest, they even got the tattoos right!

That Alderweireld one is very convincing, has to be said. The comments for Willian make it seem like they've just replaced Pogba's face.

The Alderweireld one has something wrong with the head and neck area, it looks shopped, especially when comparing to his arm. Looks like he has a big head and thin arms

So, anyone reckon this will be done this summer?
Yes I think so. Let’s face it, spurs are now a threat, so why give them the money early on in the transfer window, especially given the fact he seems to only want a move to Utd and has a clause kick in reducing his value to £25m effectively at the end of this window. So leave it until as late as we dare..... Makes business sense.

I hope so. He's better than any other defender we've been linked with.

Think LB and RW are more urgent though.
Agreed, I think we could have done with a LB upgrade and a RW, but if we bring in Alderweireld it would make it a reasonable enough window for us. I have high hopes that Dalot will step up and become first choice RB before the start of the season and that both Fred and Alderweireld will help the rest of the players raise their level as well.

Maybe from a business sense, unless Spurs simply refuse to lower their initial demands and we end up overpaying for him/an alternative target. I also prefer to have signings done earlier in the window to give them more time to get integrated into the team and hit the ground running come the start of the new season.

Mirror exclusive that we're signing Toby in the next 48 hours.

 Fingers crossed.

‘That prompted United to make an initial £50million offer in May, but they began looking at Leicester's Harry Maguire and Barcelona's Yerry Mina when the London club refused to budge on their asking price.’

So Spurs essentially ‘wasted’ 2 months to get another £10m? Alderweireld is only due back to training on Monday, so it made sense for United to hold out and wait, whereas Spurs could have already used the £50m back in May to get someone like Zaha in early.

Please happen. I honestly reckon this signing would improve us far more than people think.
