Toby Alderweireld

Hopefully some better sources start backing this up.

Please happen. I honestly reckon this signing would improve us far more than people think.
100%. We don’t have to be cautious of our shaky defence. We can play out from the back. He’s a threat on set pieces. Provided he stays fit, he’s ideal.

 Fingers crossed.

‘That prompted United to make an initial £50million offer in May, but they began looking at Leicester's Harry Maguire and Barcelona's Yerry Mina when the London club refused to budge on their asking price.’

So Spurs essentially ‘wasted’ 2 months to get another £10m? Alderweireld is only due back to training on Monday, so it made sense for United to hold out and wait, whereas Spurs could have already used the £50m back in May to get someone like Zaha in early.
I’d be surprised if the deal actually happens for more than 50m plus maybe some add ons. It happens with 90% of the transfer fees we pay, it always the maximum possible amount.

On another side, to be sincere I wanted Maguire more when the rumors surfaced, but Toby is a good addition also.

What's Simon Mullock's track record like?

I wouldn’t make assumptions based on a story in the Mirror. However, Levy does have a history in selling late on in the window to gain a few pounds.

He said we were interested in Sanchez in early January when everyone thought he was off to City. Looking at his record, he doesn't seem to put his nck on the line all that often. Clearly he's got some good info here.

Good to hear. There was also that guy from The Times who said a similar thing earlier today, so it looks promising.

Shouldn’t even be concerned on the price anymore. It’s a ridiculous market and if we dont pay it we continue with the likes of Jones getting a look in. We wouldn’t progress. Just pay it and get what we need

The perception of the price is skewed because of his release clause that kicks in next season.

If we get him, then I don’t really care about the price as he would be a significant improvement on what we have.

Exactly. If his contract isn't close to an end, most likely we wouldn't even have a chance of getting him.

He’s a world class centre back. Really not arsed. Would be a perfect signing for us.
Wasn’t impressed with him during the WC. Was watching to see how he’d recovered. Not sure about him. I have a theory that perhaps Vertonghen makes him look better than he is. We will soon find out

Exactly. We need to improve, not settle for what we already have.

So United will have;

smalling
Jones
bailly
Rojo
Lindelof
Potentially Alderweireld

Surely that is a CB or two to many?...

Rojo is linked to Everton for £30m.

Some said he's world class. Do you reckon he could be a GOAT?

3 at the back looking likely. That would be the best system for our attack I think although we need better FB’s to really pull it off.

Im just wondering if the likes of Jones and Rojo are even good enough for a potential three in the back system, if the club wants to fire on all cilinders (premier league, champions league etc).

Really? I’ve always thought it to be the other way round.

£60 million is probably £10 million too much. Don't care. If we're planning on playing 352 we ideally still need a left back, if we're playing 433 a RW and LB are both neccessary.

I like Alderweireld but I hope we have another trick or two up our sleeve because he alone won't make us serious challengers.

Thank feck. The best defender we could've realistically gotten out of all those we've been linked with. Hopefully this one has legs.

The transfer fee doesn't bother me in the slightest. I trust the club to look after its finances properly. On the pitch though he improves our defence immeasurably and will add a lot to our overall game.

I'd be delighted if this came off .

Hopefully the rest of his body too, for €60m I’d kinda expect him to have more than his legs

Don't give a shit about the price anymore. Much better signing than Mina.

If we don't sign Alderweireld and end up with Mina, i will self-combust and the Caf will feel the full force of it.
