Toby Alderweireld

Why is that?

You are in the same league as us, and as a club you are loaded. Our preferred destination would be abroad and if that meant £10m less sure, if both Madrid and City wanted De Gea would you sell for the same price, or even entertain a transfer to City? I very much doubt it.

Alderweireld and DDG not in same level of importance. I hope he waits a year and goes for next to nothing.

City are actually title rivals though, and De Gea is world class. Spurs are nothing more than a club that is hovering around top 4 area, and Alderweireld isn't a world class player.

That wasn’t really the point I was making, and £25m is still a decent price for what would be a 30 year old, but yes I would agree De Gea is probably your best player.

You make it out like United buying him now would be some kind of favour for us.

What has that got to do with who we sell him to? We finished 4 points of you, we were as much a title rival as United. I don’t believe anyone will catch City for at least 2 years. As a squad and first team no club are anywhere close to City.

We've done more "hovering around" top 4 since Fergie retired than have United - if that's your basis for defining title rivals.

If Levy doesn’t accept £35m then we should just nip and and steal De Ligt for £50m, not play him for a year then sell him to Arsenal for £25m.

feck him!

Not at all I just find the price Levy is supposedly asking for a not in favour player to be ridiculous.

Is Martial in favour?
Martial is 22 and He is an attacker. Attacker generally more expensive than defender.

Levy can feck himself , nobody gonna buy 29 years old cb , came from long injury , out of contract soon for 75m , we already very generous offering him 55m , let's just wait for 25m next year.

There are two things in your post I disagree with:

* Toby is world class in my view.

* It isn't accurate to imply that he's no longer first choice at Spurs due to playing ability. If he re-committed to the club then we'd play at 3 the back IMO in most games: Sanchez - Toby - Vertonghen. It's simply that in the absence of re-commitment Poch has rightly concluded that there's no point in a playing a system that not strong enough without Toby in it (Dier is not great as a CB and we need him in CM anyway) - and so he's reverted to a back four and chosen to bed in Sanchez in that rather than use a player (Toby) who looks to be leaving.

In my view the world-class status of Toby balances out the age differential with Martial, who might never become world class.

That's fair enough. Of course he'd be playing if he was committed to staying. Even if you'd play a back 4, he'd be first choice. I'm not saying he's the third best centre back you've got. I think he's the best of the lot. There aren't many world class centre backs, Sergio Ramos is one of the few. I don't think Toby's that level, but the next level below. Then there's of course the fact he's had an injury plagued season and we don't know if he'll come back to the same level (not that it was a terrible injury, it's just a risk is all I'm saying).

If he's happy to stay, why not ask for a crazy fee. If he wants out, he needs to hand in a transfer request. With regards to Martial, I still disagree. You'd probably think the same if we did a straight swap, when you'd sell him 3-4 years down the line for profit, laughing all the way to the bank.

Levy will start shitting himself as the transfer window begins to close and Toby does not commit to an extension.

I wouldn't pay any more than £45M for Toby Alderweireld. Any more than that would be a total rip off. £40M is his market value price imo, but as we are a premier league rival that would increase the price a bit more to say £45M. But no more, if Spurs want more than £45M then they can feck off! If they want Martial then the only way they can get him is if they give us Toby + £65M.

Yeah arsenal sign sokratis for £16M . Toby should be £25M max.

If we want to spend big better spend it on de ligt

For the money Levy is asking, I would prefer to sign Koulibaly or even a younger CB like De Ligt/Skriniar, and we could get Alderweireld for 25m next year.

I think Alderweireld would be an excellent addition to our defence, but Levy will play hard ball with us, as he really doesn't like us. It will be top dollar or forget it.

You are right but we might have signed another defender by then. Levy doesn't like us very much :) Can't see Juve spending much money on him either.

It is just a game of chicken atm.

Levy's ways for a PR win and how to avoid further wage-revolts:

1) he's sold but we had to because the offer was great value.

2) Alderweireld got a new fair and spicy contract (probably not as spicy as at a rich club, but he would rot at the bench if he did not sign - btw he's very happy now and his ambitions are matched)

3) Let's not make a fuzz about it. Dont take notice Eriksen, Alli, etc. Next year we will win stuff. P.s: we twisted Poch's arm too - He liked it. It was meant in a nice way.

Edit: How on earth did Kane just sign himself up for 6 years of no big trophies?

Go and splash those 55m at Ajax, and we have the biggest CB talent for years to come. Feck Spurs and their bald cnut of a chairman.

You'll be asking the same question shortly of Eriksen, Alli etc - just like you might ask the same question of Pochettino and his new contract.

It must be baffling for fans like you, who have swallowed the wishful-thinking narrative about Spurs hook, line and sinker.

Aye, this is a hats off to Levy - He gets the players just enough to stay with you and win nothing. They'd make more money and trophies elsewhere and if Levy dished out magic Kane contracts to everyone in the squad you'd just be financially limited in other areas. He's a good business man, I'll give you that.

True, that's some achievement.

True, but while you've been hovering we've won the FA Cup, League Cup, and European Cup

None of which makes you more of a league title rival than Spurs - as per the post I replied to.

Even £55mil is too much tbh, why did Levy let Walker go to city for less even though he's younger and had more years left on his contract?
