Timo Werner to Chelsea

Up until about a month before COVID this entire forum was absolutely trashing the entire United squad bar 2-3 players, just about everyone wanted Ole out because he was in way over his head, and you were playing arguably the worst football in the entire PL. There were times when posters were literally suggesting you sell everyone other than Rashford and a couple others.

Now suddenly you have this monster squad that's vastly superior to Chelsea's. :wenger::wenger::wenger::wenger:
I'd swap Bruno for Mount and Maguire for Cristensen/Zouma/Tomori, but I wouldn't swap anyone else. Your very good form happened to coincide with our poor form (which we were starting to turn around before the virus) which seems to be clouding the minds of quite a few here.

How many times have you beaten Man United this season?

How many times have you even drawn against United this season?

Exactly.

The truth is somewhere between that.

Our squad clearly lacked creative options especially with Pogba missing.

Our defence and midfield have been quietly solid this year but we couldn't break down teams that sit deep, so we've been frustratingly inconsistent at times.

We've relied too much on players like Lingard, Pereira and Mata, but since Bruno and Ighalo arrived we've been so much better on this front.

Considering we've been without Rashford and Pogba for most of the season we've done alright, and with a strong final push could take the top 4.

Chelsea obviously have some great young options too, but I feel our starting 11 on paper if we can sign Sancho will be one of the best in the league.

If we can get Bruno/Pogba +1 to gel we will be so fun to watch.

You wouldn’t take Rashford?

Weird, ManUtd players actually become useless on caf when they are injured, poor comparison.
I wasn't being (completely) serious but it is a bit strange how we apparently have little to no players good enough to get in your side yet we finished above you last season and are 3 points ahead this time round with 9 games to play.

Unless Lampard and Sarri are geniuses something isn't adding up.

Two very good signings for Chelsea so far on paper. Top 4 is getting so much more difficult to get into never mind winning the league again. Not sure why so many on here are so sure we are getting Sancho either, what have I missed exactly?

Also I read on this thread that we got an early signing in January when we signed Bruno, surely we signed him 5 months late...but good spin on it I guess. What I do know is we still need quality additions, I for one have not forgotten how bad we have been for years now and even during this season.

Hopefully we can keep Pogba and sign Sancho although I'm not confident in either, especially if we once again fail to get CL football. We can't afford to dither about this upcoming window either way.

I'd be surprised to see Pogba leave. The covid pandemic has made clubs re-prioritise. I doubt we'll see transfers much over £50-£60m for a couple of years due to the financial implacations.

Plus, we hold the cards now with Pogba, we've been playing very well without him, we have a new star man without him, we're not desperate to sell him. We can keep him, trigger his extension and force him to work hard to play for us.

Going by that exact same logic you're inferior to Arsenal.

So your response is to go the complete opposite way and declare you wouldn't take any United players. Ha ha seems rational.

Stop being so defensive. It's a United forum. What do you lot expect?

Eh? The other guy said only Bruno and Maguire are good enough to play for Chelsea when we have players like Rashford, Pogba in the side.

It's not even some rocket science. We had too many injuries to key players and we didn't have depth to cover it. When Martial was injured, Rashford played as striker and struggled. When Rashford was injured Martial struggled. Both struggled to an extent without players like Pogba in the side.

Once Bruno was signed, most of the problem related to creating chances was addressed and the form of the team was very good too. It's not like Chelsea are having season like Liverpool to tell only 2 players will get into the team when there is barely anything between sides.

Yeah, but wait until the season is finished before quoting league positions? You still have Liverpool and City to play and a harder run in than us.

That would work if I actually said that, on this thread alone I've been pretty complementary about the progress you're making.

Well clearly not, because Arsenal are mid-table fodder.
But the point is you're response to the other poster was bringing up head to head records.

As annoyingly impressive as your recent record against us is it will mean the square route of feck all unless you follow it up by beating us to CL.

Yeah, but wait until the season is finished before quoting league positions? You still have Liverpool and City to play and a harder run in than us.

We've already beaten Liverpool and Man City only narrowly beat us at their place. The only side with our number is Man United and we don't have to play you again!

Hope you are right, would love him to stay and start performing again.

None, and you're still behind us in the league.

I don't wanna hear about injuries, we've had them as well.

Who mentioned injuries, you?

We're 1 result off overtaking you in the league, and we've beaten you 3 times out of 3 - yet you'd only take 2 of our 11 players?

Laughable and biased.

Oh dear, clutching at straws much? They rested almost all their best 11 for this game. If you come up against Liverpool putting their strongest team out, you will lose. Just like you lost at home in the League against them.

I brought up head to head records because our PL seasons have been very similar (whereas Uniteds and Arsenals have not).

I find it astounding that a Chelsea fan would only take 2 of our 11 players when we've won 3 out of 3 games against Chelsea. We've literally been better than them 3 times in a head to head game.

We have the FA cup for a chance of a Ole quadruple buddy!
Same for City I suppose. Theres every chance Ole could be arrested for harrassment after this

I agree. The pandemic has given the clubs a big financial hit. Other than the state owned sugar daddy clubs, no one will have fortunes to spend. 9 digit transfers will not come back until covid19 is under control worldwide.

Liverpool's players that played that night that were part of their strongest/preferred Xl Gomez, Fabinho, VVD, Robertson and Mane while ours were Kepa, Azpi, Rudi, Kova and Willian.

We we're just as weakened as they were if not more so.

I find it astounding that a Chelsea fan would only take 2 of our 11 players
I don't argue that but it's just as illogical in reverse which is what started this tit for tat in the first place.

Should we come at the bridge and spank you again

If you've got a better squad, why are you 3 points behind us? Manager?

We can go back and forth on this all we like.. it is clear we have clearly lacked the quality for large parts. Yes we can blame injuries, Chelsea will point to the transfer ban.

Our squad is still quite inconsistent, which you will find an issue with all the youngsters chelsea have too.

We are just hoping they all find some consistency, then we could have a better squad.

I think he could end up like Schürrle. Maybe not quite as bad and disappointing but he shares a lot of the same bad traits if you plan on using him as a winger.

If (as last season) we get the CL football and more silverware you can win 6-0 at The Bridge every season for all i'd care

No matter the other responses what you are saying is true. There was a group that said the squad and Ole were no where near good enough. But there was another group that kept saying our weaknesses was the lack of a playmaker and that the loss of Pogba had impacted us a lot(a lot of united fans have been convinced by pundits that Pogba makes no difference for us). True to what the second group said as soon as we got a decent playmaker our form picked up.

Even Kante is past his best and hasn’t added anything to Chelsea this season and as I put before, Werner has it all to prove for me still.
No he’s not, he was injured and prior to Lampard taking over was asked to do a job that is not playing to his strengths

The physicality argument is overplayed IMO. We've seen physically unimpressive attackers tear up defenses in the PL time and time again. Set pieces are overrated as a genuine threat as well. How often does a lack of physicality really lead to the other team winning games on set pieces?

It's not that a slight forward can't be successful. It's that you can't have 5-6 of them in one team in the PL.

Also, set pieces are actually under-appreciated. There was an article on The Athletic or ESPN somewhere a few weeks back which showed how all teams should be spending more time on them.

To be fair, I loved the guy. He worked hard even when he wasn’t in form and scored crucial goals for us. If not for his illness wrecking his last season with us, I’d much rather he had stayed and Willian was sold instead.

Rumour has it we are more interested in Havertz and if that's true, I'm OK with that. Have a feeling he would fit in quicker but I have only seen a very limited amount of him. Werner might be better in the long run but I think we some of the younger players we have, we need someone if fits now and hits the ground running. No idea why but i feel Werner fits chelsea more than he fits us.... as I say no evidence just a feeling. If we are not after Havertz or any other goal scorer, then we should definitely be pushing for Werner

3 points separating us and you have the harder run in fixtures. Sure let's see who ends up above who when the season concludes

Well even if that’s the case that’s not going to change with Lampard in charge next season.

I hope he's not going to limit Batshuayi's game time.
