Fabinho made a few nice passes and a great cross for the goal but the thing for me is what were they doing so great out of possession either? City had all the possession and it was meaningful possession as well. There was constantly acres of space between monacos defence and midfield. City's attacking midfielders had all the time in the world everytime they were on it. Two defensive midfielders we supposedly should be signing shouldn't be allowing that.

Fabinho had to deal with Sidibé losing his mind 90% of the time.

The cross was good but a lot of his passing is just passing the buck, he's not constructing anything. As a rule Fabinho sits deeper and is more solid but he's also not used to the press and tempo of tonight's game and seemed to get overwhelmed as the game went on.

Bernardo Silva is the one we need from Monaco.

He was by far the more skillful on the ball, but in what position do we need him exactly for?

He's playing as a left-footed right midfielder. We don't use those, we have Valencia going up and down the wing. He's not trusted with a CM role in Monaco, not sure he would cut it here for us either.

He also seems more offensive than the other midfielders. He is not gonna displace Mata or Mkhi down that side. Pogba is still much the better player for the middle and we have Pereira coming back in the summer. His role is vastly different to Herrera's or Bakayoko's (it's his thread after all). So where exactly?

I was reading comments on another site and guys are saying Bakayoko was fantastic. I really don't understand how they come to that conclusion. I am actually convinced now that some people completely misinterpret a match. Whatever the reason was for him being gassed after 60 minutes, his performance was nothing special from an objective point of view and it led to City slicing through Monaco in the last 30 mins or so.

He was at sea in that second half, dereliction of duty. We'd be in trouble if we bought him as a DM.

You may be right. I'm not sure I'd spend 70 mil. But Mata and Mkhitaryan won't go forever and Silva is 22.

They base their opinions on the media. These are the same people who were convinced Gaitan was a god because the press claimed we wanted him.

considering the fact he was injured in their last game and was very doubtful for today's game i thought he was good.

He looked like a fuel guzzling truck that can only do 50 tops.

Fabinho on the other hand looked so much more sorted and would suit the DM role well. Fabinho was clearly more defensively alertand surpisngly looked quicker as well. However the commentators did say that Bakayoko wasn't fully fit.

bye bye to the dead wood and servants who need to leave this summer Darmian, lingard, shwein wazza Fellaini and young

Hello to the new players which will hopefully include Bernardo silva, Mendy, Lindelof And N'zonzi. As well as the welcome return of Andreas Perreira.

Yeah thought Fabinho was by the better footballer on display. Bakayoko was scarily reminiscent of Fellaini. Put me right off him.

But even Fabinho isn't an upgrade - and I would expect us to get a first team upgrade rather than a Schneiderlin.

Seen a lot of people praise him on here but on last nights performance he doesn't look good enough.

As many have said before hand i would rather get Fabinho or keep Herrera.

Considering his knee was heavily strapped and he didn't look anywhere near 100% I thought he did well.

Let's see how he does in the 2nd leg but last night Fabinho looked better.

yeah let's become RM

in fact I'd agree pretty much with departures maybe bar Lingard who can still be a decent squad player with limited gametime while serving well... but we can't simply sell 6 players and buy 4 because they are the new flavours of the week, this is pretty pathetic, Lindelof is massively overrated and will end up no better than Garay or Will Carvalho, Silva is the opposite of Mourinho wide player, we are surely not buying him, he's also overrated, we need more dynamic players, havent watched mendy much, he just played in a side which conceded 5 goals didn't he?

N'Zonzi he's having a good season, could be a good squad option, ow much do we need a player like him though

Do you have anything against "portuguese" players?

Maybe they want cheaper prices, does not mean they do not like, but it looks judgements here are made watching one game.

Good player and can see why bigger teams are looking at him but I don't think he's the player we need at the moment. He didn't seem to have the passing ability required. We need someone like Kroos or Verratti.

He played well in the first half I thought but he was a complete shambles in the second half. I'll have to watch more of him to make a proper judgement.

I rate Sanches for example and he hasn't really proved himself yet but that's absolutely normal as he's just very young player, why should I rate the rest? when was the last time a player from Benfica made it to the top level? good enough for a club like Manchester United, there are better options elsewhere

Rui Costa was the last Benfica player to reach a world class level. Or am I missing someone?

I'm picturing 'going loco down in acapulco' with acapulco replaced by bakayoko. And I like it.

We see way too much of the ball in the bulk of our games to have a CM that is so limited in posession, it's one of the reasons Schneiderlin failed here and why we struggle to play fluid football when Fellaini plays.

I think Lingard is a ok squad player, everyone else on that list can go though.
Too bad Jose doesn't rate Bastian, he could be useful for us

Yeah Mendy is good, but I've come to the conclusion we don't need any of them, especially not 70 mil. for Silva. It seems that Mendy covers the same ground as Pogba?

Yeah, nonsense to pay 70 million for a player we really don't need.

Mendy is LB but he's covering crazy ground.

Di Maria, Oblak, David Luiz, Matic... Now Renato Sanches, Andre Gomes, Bernardo Silva etc.

You are missing a lot of people

Andre Gomez is a bit shit, Silva and Sanchez have everything to prove.

From the other players, only Di Maria has reached a world class level.

There are several promising midfielders in Europe that should be available for us. Bakayoko should not top that list in my opinion.

Keita, Tielsman and Tolisso looks better in my opinion. Fabinho probably more suited too. But I guess our scouts will give Mourinho enough information to make the correct decision.

Am I missing something with this guy, don't get the hype at all.

He plays with the maturity of someone beyond his 22 years. Tall, skillful, runs for days and has the ability to quickly transition from defense to attack. He has everything Mourinho looks for in a CM.
