Not sure I agree with that. After Scholes retired out midfield became built around Carrick and so he stood out more. That's he big difference I think.

We won the league twice in 4 years with midfield are built around Carrick. Surely he is considered to be an excellent midfielder if he was the maestro of our midfield that led us 19th and 20th PL titles.

Watched him against PSG. Wasn't constantly involved but a lot of skill and composure on the ball and he's a good athlete. Didn't have problem defensively but not Kante or Makelele either.

I think if he came he could partner with Pogba when we go 4-2-3-1, though we might have trouble dealing with counters we would have a lot of physical presence and the ability to get the ball forward by carrying it, but in the 4-3-3, Herrera would be the DM and he would play where Herrera does now.

To me if we were gonna sign one of the Monaco CM's then Fabinho makes more sense, I wouldn't personally choose either, if we want another #8, which is what Bakayoko is, the lad from Leipzig looks better IMO.

I dont see the point here. Better number 8's out there and he is no 6. So i dont really see why we should buy him

Watched him against Nice yesterday and tbh not sure what's all the fuss around this dude?

Not to be harsh on the lad but he's just a slightly smaller, but faster and more agile version of Fellaini. Modest passing skills at best and not very confident with the ball in his feet.

Tbh if we're to sign someone from Monaco, I'd much rather we sign Fabinho.

The majority of those who big him up have only seen him play on Youtube. That's where the fuss is coming from.
I am the first one to call him "Fellaini esque plus" in this thread back in summer having seeing for some game last season. Here is the good Fellaini in first few game at the start of the season. That's not quite bad if you consider how Fellaini is workable, and this guy has more in his locker. RoJones is a revelation and would be a better platform for this upgrade. We definitely lack energy in this side. The covering distance stat in this case does tell the truth and this guy maybe a help to fix that problem.

Not to be harsh on tFabinho's father: "We like Manchester United & Mourinho's work, but we have a soft spot for Manchester City." Interesting qoutes from Fabinho's father on twitter saying that Utd, City and Arsenal have all enquired about Fabinho.

He then went on to say : "We like Manchester Utd and Mourinho's work, but we have a soft spot for Manchester City."

As several others have said, this guy is an upgraded version of Fellaini; and that is probably why Jose will go for him. Marouane has got plenty of game time this season. Bakayoko is a Mourinho kind of player.

That's not meant to be an insult by the way. Fellaini is a decent player. Bakayoko is quite a good player with the potential to be very good.

What a statement. We like UTD but have a soft spot for Citeh. How's that even possible, we couldn't be more different? He's just fence sitting, weighing it out who'll pay more money to him.

"On a personal level we like Manchester United, but City have indicated they'll pay more money"

I dont think this is really the case anymore, City dont pay more than we do anymore. In terms of wage (on average) we probably pay the most in the entire world. Average players earn a lot here in red Manchester.
Agree. It might be a case of Pep saying 'You are the key to my plan. You play in my two favourite positions, full back and midfield. We need you to complete my masterpiece. If we have lots of players out injured, we will play you in 3 different positions' or summat like that.

We want to sign for United, but if they don't come in for us forget we said anything, we want to sign for City.

(Feck Arsenal)

There is just no way that is true.

He looks an interesting player, pretty much like Matuidi but much younger and more defensive version of him, might be turned into a ball winning beast who then carries the ball forward, could be a good addition and good competition for Herrera even though he'd bring sth little else. I sense he will become a great player but the same I thought about Kondogbia

Great news if we are indeed interested in him. His present contract is till 2019. So if he doesn't sign a new one, Monaco will be looking to sell him this summer.

The more I see of him the more certain I am that he's not what we need, not good enough on the ball or positionally, at best he'd be Ander's cover.

I'm not going to lie but I like the look of Franck Kessie way more. He's a more rounded B2B imo

I have only seen a bit of him but he's more dynamic and agile from what I've seen and looks a better passer.

Which is exactly what we need, no? Our current midfield cover is Fellaini.

It depends on if we are buying 2 CM's this summer and if Jose is planning on going 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 with Pogba deeper in the 2, if it's the latter and we only buy 1 then we need a proper holding midfielder first and foremost.

Would it not be better to get an upgrade on Herrera and let Herrera be the cover?
In an ideal world, sure. But Mourinho has recently said we won't be pushing for unrealistic targets, and I don't think we'll find a midfielder who is good enough to be pushing Herrera to the bench, unless said player wants a transfer or we splash the cash.

Should get a Carrick replacement and Andreas come back into the squad.
I mean for me 'midfield cover' just encompasses an additional midfielder.

Pogba, Herrera, New CM/DM, Pereira would be nice. And as a fifth choice keep Carrick for an additional year?

I'd hope we bin Schweinsteiger and Fellaini. Andreas takes one of those slots and the new CM takes the other, delegating Carrick to the slot that Basti currently has (though used a little more than that).

We heard that about Blind last year and we signed a relatively unknown in Bailey.
