Is nobody giving any real credence to this then? The tabloids seem to be full of us having agreed a fee with them, for what thats worth.

No reliable tabloids though. We are clearly in the market for a midfielder but I don't think anyone has a notion who it is. Perisic + mysterious midfielder will probably conclude our transfer business for this summer. Not sufficient in my opinion but we'll see. We really lack that world class attacker in the final third along with some decent competition for Shaw for that left back spot.

At least we can rule out Matic as Chelsea will refuse to deal with us after their Lukaku fiasco.

He is a box to box who rarely plays as a DM. Bakayoko is good on the ball, he is good at linking the defense and the attack because he is a sure passer and can drive with the ball. On the defensive side, he can close down on the opponents very quickly and with his long legs it's difficult to avoid him but he will often switch off or don't put the necessary intensity and he is positionnally suspect.

If he can play regularly like he did during the first part of the season then his future club will have a very good footballer but a DM behind him will be advised until he fixes his defensive game. IMO, at the moment a midfield three would be ideal for him.

Would he be the type you would expect Jose may go for then? If anyone can sort out any defensive deficiencies, it would surely be Jose. Sounding a bit like a Ramires on steroids to me, and now making me consider that Jose may like the idea of such a versatile powerful runner in our midfield.

To me Mourinho doesn't have a type, so it's more about rating his potential and only Mourinho can answer that question.

I liked the idea of us signing Bakayoko and you signing Matic the most. Bakayoko and Kante would be such a destructive CM partnership. No chance our midfield gets dominated

Don't think I could bear witnessing Matic wander around the pitch at 1mph again for another whole season

But I can't understand why you guy haven't been after Fabinho tbh. Pogba, Herrera and Fabinho would be a ridiculously good midfield

France Football are now saying Chelsea are pulling out of the deal because of a knee injury that will keep him out for 8-10 weeks.

I hope not. There's so little to his game.

He had a surgery on his knee during off season according to Jardim, Chelsea were surely aware of that?

This could be saving face. I'm pretty sure medicals look longer term than an injury that'll keep a player out for 6 odd weeks (players always seem to bounce back quicker with these estimates)
I mean it's July, so he's back in training by the end of August. Big deal.

Not encouraged by our caf Frenchies assesment of him, besides not the type of player we need.

The flight has been tracked, looks like this one is a done deal for Chelsea

Hopefully we can tie up the deal for Matic pretty soon as well then

Wouldn't want him here as I haven't been remotely impressed when I've seen him. Chelsea can take this one.

I love the way Chelsea trying to leak that we were in for him. Still salty over Lukaku, trying to save face.

Who suits us better? Bakayoko or Fabinho.... and why aren't we going full throttle for Weigl?

Monaco plays a 2 DM system. Just like Chelsea. One holds the position whilst the other is proactive. Bakayoko plays the role similar to what Gatusso used to for Milan and Kante does at Chelsea.

Monaco plays a 2 CM midfield like Atletico.:)

Didn't find him that impressive at all on the few occasions I saw him but I figured that's just because you're naturally drawn to the flair players of teams you rarely see, and Monaco are obviously full of them. I'm a bit surprised that there's so little praise of him in here though. I thought he was highly rated.

He wasn't really rated before this season and he wasn't great when the world was watching Monaco.

That's what I saw in the 10 or so Monaco games I watched last year. I actually think Tolisso and Rabiot, all the same age, have similar strengths (mobility, technically good, strong to varying degrees)

We play about half our games in a 4-3-3 and half in a 4-2-3-1. I think if we sign Bakayako we'll play like this:

4-3-3:
-----------Lukaku------------
Mkhitaryan-------------Mata
------Pogba---Bakayoko----
-----------Herrera-----------

4-2-3-1:
-----------Lukaku------------
Martial---Mkhitaryan----Mata
------Pogba----CM----------

with the CM being a battle being Herrera and Bakayoko, maybe the occasional rest for Pogba unlike last year, and the occasional Pogba as a 10 game when Mourinho wants to play a 4-2-3-1 but has decided Mata and Mkhitaryan are lightweight flakes as he is wont to do with 10s.

Obviously Martial or Rashford or a winger we sign could take one of the wide jobs.

Don't believe it and don't want him.

But the idea is funny as feck.

All United need to do is have Mourinho categorically deny any interest in signing him at his next presser/interview.

If we're interested and do get him, then great. But I don't think we are.

Would be the funniest fecking thing ever but nah it's ok Chelsea you can have him
