Thomas Müller

I really hope this is just a joke from BILD, and there is absolutely nothing serious in this story whatsoever. Not because I don't want the player, but the opposite in that I couldn't go through a summer saga with us being close to signing him, only for the deal to fall through. We moan about the lack of movement in our team then get linked up to Muller, who is one of the best in the world in creating and finding space. Just please kill this rumour off now Bayern!

Maybe Van Gaal wants Muller instead of Cavani. At least if we get him, he's perfectly capable of playing wide and won't start bitching about it like Cavani has been doing at PSG this season.

The daily mail, the guardian, the mirror and the metro all seem to be reporting it too, seems to be the new transfer flavour of the month. I am trying my absolute hardest not to get hooked on this rumour, but I'm seriously struggling.

We'd have a much better chance of getting Draxler maybe...Draxler still needs a season or two before he is ready for the big boys but he would still be a great signing for the long term

Seems like we'd have a better chance of getting Gotze or Shaqiri. Can the latter play on the left, or would he a bit stunted there?

--------Striker---------
Gotze--Kagawa---Mata (Januzaj)

would be a lot of fun.

He's one of those shit good players, like Rooney and Diego Costa.

We wouldnt sell Mario(Götze) for 100 million euros. We want young German superstars. He is all that and could be the next big thing after Ronaldo and Messi. In no way we will sell this summer, sorry.
Shaqiri is another matter. He could be world class but at the moment he is not quite good enough. Some German papers talk about 5 new players. He should go then. Maybe Sanchez for him.

His movement is one of the best in football at the minute. I rate Muller highly and he would become a firm favourite with the fans here with his workrate also.

Also loves scoring big goals in big games so what's not to like?

To the Bayern fans, how often did Muller play out wide when playing under van Gaal?

A twenty goal a season wide-forward who can play central as well, and we'd turn that down? However, I'm still not convinced that all these Bayern players want out.

Partly in every match - but that is not what you want to hear. He prefered Müller in the middle of the pitch free roaming - he called Müller's position that of a shadow peak - like Litmanen in his Ajax system. Müller has a special radar - not only to see spaces and create them but to always know where his fellows, the opponents and the ball is. That is atleast what van Gaal would tell you. He probably would use him in the center at the beginning as he knows best what van Gaal wants and needs a free role in the system that he would not get on the wings (later, when the system sticks it could be different)

But he usually only used him on the wing when Robben was injured (not always - Altintop sometimes played on that wing, too).

Cheers a lot mate, what I had read then! Even less of a chance he would join United to bench Mata/Kagawa then in the AM role.

He won't leave. Not the slightest chance.

Sadly, i think Müller is on his way out, it is only a question where to. There have been subtones in his interviews for a while now, and it seems he is thoroughly pissed at Bayern at the moment. So how far is it from Manchester to Newmarket? :wenger:

Even if he has decided to leave (which I doubt), we will be quite far down in the list of his possible destinations. We're always linked with the best players and we seldom get them.

I remember a quote from him about his admiration for Inter and Italian football in general. Don't know if they will be able to afford the transfer fee or the wages.

Really? I didn't think this was all that serious. What do you think will happen to Kroos?

I guess the quote might be from around the time they were beaten by Inter in the CL final. He won't be going to Italy though, no way, and especially not Inter. That has an even lesser probability of happening than him joining us.

IIRC, it was from a couple of years back when he was not getting on regularly under Jupp. I remember that a transfer to Inter was mentioned in the gossip pages around the last Euros.

Yeah, it was at the end of the 11/12 season, when we started all the big games with Ribery, Kroos, Robben and Gomez and only several suspensions brought him back into the first team for the CL final. He was unhappy back then. But he extended his contract at Bayern only 6 months later and was a regular starter since then.

Thanks. That's what I remembered.

He has been a regular this season? What is the cause of these rumours then? New contract? More money? Or idle paper gossip to get hits by mentioning United?

I'd call him that yes. He played more minutes in league, CL and cup than Robben, Ribery, Mandzukic, Götze and started most of the big games (Dortmund away, City twice, United twice, Real once - and even against Arsenal, he had a huge impact from the bench, he wasn't frozen out of the team at any point). He started around 75% of all our games, if he's not a regular, who is?

There were always going to be rumours. Last season you could read about Robben's attitude being a problem and Pep wants him gone, Müller not fitting Guardiola's ideas, Thiago coming in meant that Kroos won't get enough minutes. It was all a load of made up nonsense and I doubt it's any different this time. Right now you can read everywhere that most of our players are having a shit season or don't fit into Pep's ideas. Only 4-5 weeks ago, every newspaper wrote that we're invincible, that the league will be boring for years, that all our players love the club and want to stay forever (with the exception of Kroos). It's just stupid. Müller signed a contract extension until 2017 last season, why should everything be totally different all of a sudden? We had a few bad weeks with a painful exit in the CL semifinals and now we have to live through the aftereffects. It'll calm down.

Stop living in denial, Balu. We're getting Kroos, Muller and Robben. We're doing to you what you did to Dortmund.

I was asking, not questioning it, Balu.

You are right. Unfortunately, things go that way. When you are winning then everything is hunky-dory and everyone is happy. The moment things go a little awry the murmurs of discontent become more audible.

You may be well be right that none of the 'star' players would move from Bayern. I have my doubts because of the quality of those players and the available time in a season. I guess we'll have to wait and watch what happens.

I thought you're already doing to Dortmund, what we're doing to Dortmund? After all you bought Kagawa and want Reus and Hummels.

Like I said before, I'll let you dream of Kroos and Robben and even Götze, if you want to. We keep Müller though ;).

I dont understand why are we getting linked to players like Muller and Cavani? While both are fantastic footballers, we dont really need either of them. I'd be shocked if this actually happens .

I'd imagine LvG would probably utilise Muller in a Reus-esque fashion - i.e. a winger/outside forward with an eye for goal. He's quite a versatile player which should resonate well with van Gaal's philosophy.

The Cavani link makes no sense though.

He looks so akward at times but he is a top player. The depth Bayern have is crazy, I agree with Balu I don't see him leaving, but if he was available I would grab at him with both ahnds. He guarantees 15-20 goals a season, even from wide positions. He is the perfect team player, tactically as good as it gets. His movement is 10/10. One of the best players around. As a wide forward I'd only put Ronaldo and Pedro before him.

No way Bayern let's him leave, Pep must love him.

We need Muller much more than Cavani, because he plays out wide much more naturally than him. I honestly don't see how Young, Nani and/or Valencia will all remain at the club at the same time, and at least one of them will be leaving, so replacing them with Muller is an incredible positive.

As long as he stays for the duration of his carreer as a footballer, I won't mind. ;)
He can leave at the end of his career for a few years and play abroad, if he wants to, and then come back and work at the club after he retired from his playing career.

Will Muller's game time not be limited with Lewandowski joining up next season?

Will Muller's game time not be limited with Lewandowski joining up next season?

I think so, unless Kroos does leave (a move I would actually welcome). On the other hand, Ribery and Robben aren't getting younger and Müller can fill pretty much any role up front.

Will Muller's game time not be limited with Lewandowski joining up next season?
Maybe, maybe not. It all depends on how Götze will perform, how Lewandowski will fit in, how often other players are injured. Ribery and Robben are a year older then. I expect Mandzukic to leave, so it doesn't change too much.

Müller working as a board member would be hilarious, I really hope it happens! :D

I also don't expect his playing time to drop next year. You can't tell how many injuries we might get as well and he has the advantage of being able to play a lot of positions. Lewandowski coming won't affect him. I wonder where Mandzukic might go, if he were to leave. Therebare already reports linking him with Juve amd Chelsea..

I don't think this is true, it all depends on the situation, nobody would have thought we would ever get our hands on Mata last year, now he is wearing the red shirt. It all depends on the situation, last summer I was convinced we could get Di Maria if we just put in a decent offer, right now he is essential to the Madrid team we don't stand a chance. Müller was unatainble last year or years before that, but with all these new players coming in at Bayern and the playing style chaning under Pep, I don't think he is as essential anymore to them as he used to be. Müller would have nothing to search here in Manchester when Moyes was the coach, but when it is LVG, they guy who brought him in the Bayern squad and which he greatly admires, this situation has changed. On top of that, how many teams that need a player for the right wing can afford Müller (£37m atleast) ? Real doesn't need him, Chelsea don't need him, City don't need him, PSG and Barcelona don't need him (and all of them haven't been linked with him either). We need him, we can give him guarantees for playing time, we can afford him and with LVG we have a coach whom he'd love to play under again. I think we have a very good chance of landing if he wanted to leave Bayern (if LVG becomes the new coach that is).

0% for him leaving.

The only chance for United is Kroos.
