Thomas Lemar| Staying at Monaco

If Liverpool feel he is that good, I´d pay the €90M and let Barcelona bleed €150M for Coutinho.

Got to be honest, i know nothing about this guy. Can't say i even remember him standing out when i watched Monaco play in the Champions League. Now, i don't watch much football outside the Premier League, but damn - £92m, huh?

Is he "that" special, then?
Bernardo Silva was the special one for Monaco, Lemar is "just" very good.

So in the space of 30 minutes they've agreed a British world record fee and then withdrawn it?

Ligue 1 Journalist says the player wants a Liverpool move but I'm not sure if we're going to match the fee.

Don't think there's enough time left - no way he can/is allowed to do a medical in the three hours before an important WC qualifier.

You can agree a deal and do the medical later if you really want. What's more likely happened is Lemar has turned them down and they've got no choice but to keep Sanchez who half the dressing room want gone. I don't mind paying 90mill and 80 odd for Van Dijk. It's a must and we have the cash we've been saving long enough.

I'll defer to your views on that one, but my impression was that Monaco's style and setup were extremely well suited to Lemar's game (like Giggs in 06/07, providing great delivery from wide positions and stretching the play when needed, but allowing Evra to fly up the wing while he drifted in-field and provided central support and acting as a secondary playmaker). It wasn't unsuited to Silva's game, obviously, but my impression was Lemar probably had it better off in that sense.

I'll be interested to see who does better. I'm certainly closer to your point of view that there isn't much between them. Silva is obviously a much more elegant, eye-catching player so my understanding is most people expect him to be significantly better.

Lemar was Monaco's best player in a very different system the previous season while Bernardo wasn't good. So I think that there is a point to be made that Bernardo benefited more from the 442 than Lemar.

"Really good source..." and after some time Arsenal withdrawn their bid

Can't believe Lemar slips through our fingers for a mere €15m though, ffs.

Interesting. Just had a quick look and WhoScored ranked Fabinho as the 16th best player in the league, Toulalan as 33rd, Lemar as 48th and Bernardo Silva as 85th.

Christ, I have seen him play in the champions league and for the French international team. No way is he worth £92m. Player's price has inflated a lot this window it seems. We payed less than that for Pogba and he is a better play. Arsenal should have gone for Draxler and Mahrez for Nearly the price of 1 lemar.

Whoscored are perplexing. My guess is that they rate players within the context of their team otherwise the grades make zero sense, also the players descriptions are all over the place, just look at Smalling.

WhoScored are only the 27th best football related site anyway.

Honestly though, who takes the ratings by the likes of WhoScored and Squawaka seriously? A cottage industry built around football gossip.

Didnt Wenger say £90m for Pogba was crazy and that he would never go that high?

I guess Lemar is better than Pogs

Woow. All of last seasons Monaco elite players are sold except Falcao (whos a veteran nowadays) and Gilik are the only ones who remain.

Mpabbe, Bernardo Silva, Mendy, Bakyoko,Valère Germain, Nabil Dirar and Lemar all gone within one window. Fabinho could also leave in this window. That is 8 elite players.

That is 60% of the starting line-up and went further into the bench bigtime

Come on, Germain and Dirar were fringe players they were going to replace anyway and they sold both of them for peanuts to smaller clubs.

" The Pogba deal will look like a bargain, wait and see ". Surely even rival fans must see now that Mourinho was onto something here? Bargain is maybe a strong word but surely this deal does not look half as crazy as it did last year.

We'd certainly be paying a hell of a lot more for him this summer.

How much was the touted Griezmann deal supposed to be for at the start of the summer? I suspect that would have looked a serious bargain if we'd got it through.

His release clause was and is €100m.

Arsenal must have been confident on Lemar to brief the media earlier on. Given the current mindset of their current fans, teasing a huge money signing only for it not to come off will possibly send them over the edge. I think they know they can't keep Sanchez hence the "...will take a third offer, maybe" most recent briefing.

So I've been off for a couple of hours. I remember City submitting a second bid for Sanchez. What's happened since then?

They were decent bench players. Never said they were in the first 11
