That's the Liverpool we know and love, replace Coutinho with Oxlade Chamberlain :smirk:
I think Barcelona are buying Lemar instead of Coutinho, meaning we're keeping him and buying Chamberlain as another midfield option.

Signing Lemar is a better move Barca than getting fleeced on Coutinho. Will their President see sense ?
Maybe Liverpool have shot themselves in the foot here, had they sold Coutinho a week ago for 130 million and got Lemar for 70-80 million they would have had a better happier player for themselves, now it looks like their target will be taken by Barca and they will be left with a very unhappy player in coutinho.

Whether it's now, January or this time next year Coutinho is going to Barca

You think that is good for you? Keeping an unhappy player? That also a brazillian in the camp. Will he give his all? Should have taken the money.

I actually think the ox would be very good in a klopp side... he works hard off the ball is bloody quick and can cover a number of positions in klopps favoured 433 lemar may well be the better player especially longer term but I think ox could be very effective for liverpool

The owners are running round turning off the lights and sacking car park attendants while appeasing the masses with diversionary [and non-existent] bids for Gareth Bale. Reminds me of 'former' pornographers Gold and Sullivan at West Ham [and Birmingham before that]. There's no money at United. Nothing more will be spent this season. Why do you think they penny-pinch over £3m on £48m deals? We're told the owners want to wait for 'better value' late in the transfer window but that can work both ways.
...

What the hell did I just read? Am I missing a joke some where?

Hope that is true and if it is then Chamberlain is about their level so good luck with that one.

Mirror's not reliable though. It's really in Monaco's court, so I'm not holding my breath on this one.

I've always maintained that we will sell him next summer.

If he kicks up a fuss he risks his World Cup place next year. Brazil have already dropped him once because of a lack of match time. He'll end up playing again and giving his all because that's the best way for him to get what he wants.

If he proves that he can do it at a CL level with us then surely that helps show Barcelona that he's good enough?

Since when did the reported price for Lemar jump from 40 to like 70+!?

Seems insane

Well, Lemar has never been available at 40m, so I don't see when a jump occurred.

The jump is in the reported fee being offered. Arsenal offered 42 I believe, then it went cold. Now Liverpool/barca throwing 70+. Seemed a simple explanation to me but......

Think he's good, but not that good

He is that good and Arsenal never had a chance with bids like that.

Oh okay, so you are talking about the offers and not the price.

Would've been much better for us if we bought Lemar and sold Coutinho, now the latter is likely to leave next summer anyway whereas if we bought Lemar we would've had a great player on our hands for (probably) years to come. Stupid move imo.

Maybe Liverpool only bid on Lemar to f*** with Barca´s business to get back at them for Coutinho.

Yep. Sell Coutinho and buy Lemar and a solid CB would have been the best outcome. Now it looks like none of it is happening. I really can not understand why we haven't strengthened the CB position.

Matt Laws tweet seems to indicate it's the other way round but with Arsenal. We're stringing that deal along to pressure the Lemar one. Maybe I'm just being optimistic though.

I doubt Coutinho to Barcelona is going to materialize. Now that they got Dembele they have probably cooled off their interest and will look at some central midfielders instead. I would be surprised if he went there. Liverpool had their chance to get £100m+ for him.

They'd do well to bite the bullet and get Seri and another in.

No way he loses his place in the world cup selection, Tite rates him very very highly. Its like Bekham/Rooney breaking metatarsals before big tournaments and they were still taken half fit. Also all teams will play in friendlies before the tournament. He has nothing to lose.
Anyways i think he will be a barca player, spanish window is open for another day after the english one, this will let you get your deals done till tomorrow while coutinho is released to go to barca on friday.

If you get only Chamberlain and lose coutinho then its not a great move but if you get Lemar and Chamberlain well you would have had a great great window with Kieta to come next year.

Mane, kieta,Lemar are all top tier talented players with salah and firmino a little less talented lets see what happens.

Lemar is far too good for Liverpool that deal was ever going to happen. They never had a prayer.

I think the obvious thing to happen from here is that Coutinho goes to barca and we sign lemar together replace him.

Seems unlikely considering Lemar can't play in midfield.

VVD is the only business I see happening for 'pool after Ox. Coutinho will stay imo.

Lemar is destined to become a left sided central midfielder in my opinion, made perfect sense for liverpool or even barca. His decision making is excellent and he creates chances for fun. Really good player in the making.

Coutinho is a central midfielder though.

man these bids from the likes of liverpool for lemar are really making arsenal/wenger look second rate when it comes to ambition, i almost feel bad for their fans as they are being completely mugged off

If im Monaco Im waiting till the latest possible moment to see if the Coutinho deal goes through.

They can't afford to have Coutinho, Lemar, Salah, Mane and Ox on the same pitch surely ?

His arrival must mean Coutinho days are over. Otherwise this transfer doesn't make any sense.

Can/Henderson - Ox
Mane - Coutinho - Lemar
Salah

Good going forward, would be overrun in midfield 2 though

It's where he will play if he signs. Him and Ox will cover in MF and on the wings. Hopefully we never have to shift players around again.

I think Barca are going to go hard for Coutinho till the last minute. Lemar is probably a replacement. But I thought Monaco wouldn't sell anymore?

4-4-2

Sturridge - Firmino
Mane - Lemar - Coutinho - Salah
Lallana - Henderson - Can - Wijnaldum
- Ox -

And I´m not even sure that big five is worse than the current one.

Think it's pretty obvious he is his replacement regardless.
I'll be honest with you because I think you're an excellent poster, as someone who watches Monaco regularly I don't think he can replace what Coutinho offers you. But you may be right, Liverpool may be signing him as a Coutinho replacement (but as I said I don't think he'll replace what Coutinho offers, he offers something very different).
