Thomas Lemar| Staying at Monaco

Love your confidence but it feels empty. Dont think we will even come close to it. Top 4 would be our best hope.

The owners are running round turning off the lights and sacking car park attendants while appeasing the masses with diversionary [and non-existent] bids for Gareth Bale. Reminds me of 'former' pornographers Gold and Sullivan at West Ham [and Birmingham before that]. There's no money at United. Nothing more will be spent this season. Why do you think they penny-pinch over £3m on £48m deals? We're told the owners want to wait for 'better value' late in the transfer window but that can work both ways.

So who were Jose's first choice signings? We'll never know, and most of what you hear is propaganda anyway, but I'd be surprised if Lukaku's poor first touch and ineffectiveness against massed defences put him top of the list, especially with an absence of the genuine midfield craft needed to set him free in and around the box [Mkhitaryan fades and Mata is never fully utilised in this role even when he isn't being substituted].

I smell diplomatic bs listening to Mourinho. For 'I'm happy with the squad' and 'I'm content if we sign no more players' read 'I've been let down but I know when to keep my mouth shut'.

Zlatan will slow the team, will rebel against being on the bench and will not accept a support role even if he's on the field of play. He is not a fourth signing [not least since the others, barring Matic, look sub-standard], and unless we consider clinical narcissism and shamelessly putting out feelers to other clubs with the ink still wet on the contract an example to youngsters everywhere - the player wanted Madrid, and may well have gone there but for Ronaldo's intervention - we'd be wise to laugh off his 'influence' as a factor.

Having watched 'The Damned United' last night I'm reminded that football never really changes. In the end it's always a war between the professionals and money-grubbing suits, suddenly flush with success, who fail to appreciate that prosperity goes hand in hand with investment on the pitch.

A physical team but far from invulnerable and which will deteriorate still further next season when DDG goes to Madrid. Lacks real guile and with some players clearly over-rated [Rashford, Martial]. Top four and maybe a domestic cup run.

I really hope no one falls for that post above. Blatant trolling.

Only missing a "feck off FSG" for me to feel right at home.

2/10 For effort. Next time make it short and to the point and some noob would fall for it.

How many cheap digs at United can I get in one post???? Feck me what a post.

Not really seen him play so not too sure how good he is/can be, but why are Liverpool even moving for him? They will score plenty of goals this season as their front three are fantastic, it's the other end of the pitch which will be their downfall. They still have a selection of sub standard goalkeepers and their central defensive partnership isn't good enough either. Their priorities should lie there.

Countinho is off then. No way Liverpool could afford a 70m player

Lots of rumours about Van Dijk as well currently... I agree that's the priority, but much like Matic for Utd fans it's not a name that gets you super excited although it's a necessary one.

I initially thought Lemar would 100% be a Coutinho replacement but lots of contrary reports out there atm, so I'm not too sure anymore.

If they get Lemar and Ox instead of Coutinho than Liverpool have improved themselves.

if they get VVD too, then they're right up there as title contenders. Lemar is a brilliant talent, guaranteed to do well and OX is an unknown quantity as to how well he will do, but if as I suspect he thrives under Klopp.. then they are a force to be reckoned with.

van Dijk would be an upgrade for sure. Liverpool seem to have a curse with defenders though, much like City. When was the last time they had a really good CB pairing and a top goalkeeper behind them? Dudek was excellent for a while IIRC but then seem to decline massively after Forlan megged him in that game.

I'd be quite excited as a Liverpool fan though. Klopp gets a lot of stick on here (some justified) but they seem to be moving in the right direction.

Back to Lemar, is he actually any good? Prices mean nothing these days.

Van Dijk and giving Karius a run in the side I would be happy with for now. I know that'll be met with derision as every man and his dog doesn't rate the fecker. But believe me Mignolet is much worse.

problem is we're historically poor negotiators and they hold all the cards. We've messed up this window again but this time we need to bite the bullet and over pay to get players in rather than risk languishing straight whence we came, mid table mediocrity.

Salah and Keita are well worth their money. Solanke and Robertson looked good for dirty cheap. TAA, Can and Gomez seem to have made a massive leap. Champions are formed not just bought. You need a long-term plan.

Liverpool and United (for the last two years), Chelsea and Tottenham have such plans. City and Arsenal just randomly throw shit around. City had found it´s formation at the end of last season. There was no need to massively feck with Silva - KDB - Sane - Jesus - Sterling and the supersub Aguero, but Pep needs more toys and it probably causes more problems than it helps. Arsenal god knows what they are doing. Lacazette is basically Giroud´s brother from another mother. What the hell is the point? Absolutely no plan on that sinking ship.

Yeah would agree with that, but it doesn't negate the fact that as of this moment we're still criminally short and ill equipped for the season ahead. VVD and another body in MF is a must.

I would prefer that, if we can't have him. Rather Barcelona than Liverpool.

Ah, Barcelona can actually do us some good this summer. Hope they get him.

Barcelona making friends everywhere and Monaco is in heaven.

If this is true, I´d say it confirms that Liverpool´s stance on Coutinho has not changed and that they indeed intend to make an example out of him, until he literally comes begging for forgiveness.

Hope that is true and if it is then Chamberlain is about their level so good luck with that one.

Any move he makes is bad for us, as we should be signing him. If he goes somewhere then that's it done, would never see him here. Best option is that he stays at Monaco.

That's the Liverpool we know and love, replace Coutinho with Oxlade Chamberlain :smirk:
Think they will Keep coutinho, had they gotten Lemar, he would have been sold. Brave stance from Liverpool, Lets see if coutinho comes back and gives his all.

Signing Lemar is a better move Barca than getting fleeced on Coutinho. Will their President see sense ?

Meh of the 3 French talents on the move this summer he's 3rd best
