Blood and a crowd that isn't packed full of kids and their mums.
Was watching No Way Out from 2001 as per a video from Simon of WhatCulture and he specifically mentioned how into everything the crowd was and what a difference it makes.
Always strikes me when watching wrestling nowadays. We were so fecking lucky growing up being able to witness the sheer scenes whenever anything happened during the Attitude Era. The crowd makes everything so, so much better.
Yep, we were lucky to grow up with the Attitude Era. About the kids part, I'm positive more children watched back then than they do now as well! I was one of them! If I had grown up in this era of wrestling, I'm sure I wouldn't have the love that I do for wrestling now.
I just went back and looked at the NWO PPV on Wikipedia, and for the life of me I cannot remember anything about it.
TNA around this time, 05-08ish (my favourite period of the company) was like this for most shows. A lot of great wrestling, an energetic crowd, and just an entertaining product. I'm still annoyed at how Bischoff, Hogan and Dixie completely destroyed the company. Caught an episode last night on Spike TV (just the main event bewteen Lashley and Moose I think he was called) and the crowd and arena was dead. I hadn't watched for a good few years and it was sad to see it in that state after such a promising start.
Honestly, apart from TNAs 05-08ish stint, the last time I really got into something in the WWE product since maybe Evolution/Shawn Michaels/Benoit era was Daniel Bryan's WWE quest around '13/14. He's right up there with Austin as my favourite ever, and the crowd reactions to his matches were incredible when he got going. I still stand by that he eclipsed CM Punk as the most over guy since Austin/Rock.
Speaking of Punk, his "pipebomb" actually got me interested back in the product again before hearing Bryan was getting a push later on. I hadn't watched for ages and this blew up that even me, someone in the UK who hadn't thought about wrestling in a long time, heard about it. I bought the PPV where he won the belt, I believe; I was that invested. Then, predictable WWE shoot themselves in the foot with their horrendous booking and only caring about John Cena, so I quit again soon after. I'm not even a fan of Punk's but it was clear as daylight that he was the guy to go with then.
