You thought that was below average? wow.
I did! For having 5 of your top guys and all of them being good workers (even Reigns though I can't stand him) in an "extreme rules" match, it was a complete let-down for me. It was very sloppy I thought.
There were 3 "extreme" moments going from my memory. The first with Bray and Joe hitting everyone with the steps which looked sloppy and, in general, I'm never a fan of that spot anyway. Obviously they have to work safely but the way Joe and Bray slowly rammed into them, giving each enough time to dodge, wasn't very good.
The second was the announcers table spot. Nothing new, and the way these announce tables break these days look very weak like they're made out of cardboard or something. I personally prefer tables.
The third was the Reigns spear to Joe and Balor outside. Honestly, it was cool when that first happened back in 03 with Goldberg and Rock but here, it didn't look as devastating. It looked like Reigns hugged them through it. Again, pretty sloppy.
The way they tried to make the whole match about Reigns with him being in the middle of the ring on his own at the beginning, being the one to handle Joe and Bray alone, hitting Finn after his dive outside to the other 3, and just generally always being in the spotlight killed some of my enjoyment, too. I think he's improved a lot since debuting but he's killing mine, and a lot of others it seems, interest in the product. And I'm not blaming the guy himself - it's the silly billy's at the WWE. He's not "the guy" and if the WWE accepted this, and stopped treating him higher than Austin,Rock&Hogan combined, I'm sure the product as a whole (at least on RAW) would become more enjoyable. Also, his clotheslines in the corner spot is one of the worst moves I've ever seen. He puts absolutely no effort into making them look like they're actually going to hurt. Just terrible.
I also hated the Joe and Bray teaming up together spot. Everytime they do this spot in a multi man match. The heels team up, beat down the faces for like 2/3s of the match, turn on eachother, then every wrestler hits their finisher in a massive spot fest until the final one getting the win. It's predictable and boring.
I mean, take the Rollins-Balor-Miz main event from RAW a few weeks ago. I watched it and loved it. One of the best matches I've seen in years, and this had Miz in it whom I'm not a fan of and find awkward to watch in the ring, but he was brilliant in it. And the reason it was so good was because all 3 just went for eachother. No teaming up spots; just 3 guys wrestling to win. It was awesome. I'm not saying never use this spot but they don't need to do it every single multi man match. It's stale.
Honestly, using "extreme rules" as a PPV gimmick is pointless nowadys. There was nothing extreme about it. The steel cage match was alright but that was it. I mean, the stipulation for Ambrose-Miz was absurd considering the PPV.
