Lucha Underground is back tonight!

"I don't need it. I want it" say HHH talking about respect. Pretty Ironic especially after he put himself in #30 and stole the win over those who probably worked better for that. So much for respect to the belt and other wrestlers.

It's the last roll of the dice, to try and get Reigns over.

Gotta get me some sort of season 1 overview to get geared up for season 2 so I can join you lovely chaps in talking even more wrestling. Same spoiler rules?
Yeah, just spoiler everything, even if the episode airs? Saw a 40 min season 1 recap and an 8 min recap. Watched the 8 min over weekend, may go and watch the 40 min now.

Use spoiler tags for now. We don't really have rules on it, but by definition this is a wwe thread.

Apparently Tyler Breeze lost to Mark Henry......on a Smackdown pre show match( dark match)...talk about burying a guy.

He got 'you can't wrestle' chants apparently as well. Poor guy. Great wrestler, but his gimmick was never going to work.

Apparently AJ Styles was due to be out later in the Rumble, but it got switched. Also Owens and Styles were meant to be eliminated by Ambrose but Owens fought backstage for it to be changed.

Think it worked well as it did, Ambrose eliminating Styles.. getting your one of your top babyfaces heat...

Problem is, it was never given a chance regardless. Think he pretty much lost all matches bar 1 since hes been called up.

He is over though. Its basically, he got over, and then accepted. Then WWE decided to feck it cos they want the story that HHH lost and passed the torch to him, but by doing it the way theyve done it, theyve got Reigns hated again. By WM, he will be a three time champion

Can't believe that nobody has mentioned the worst win that Triple H ever got at Wrestlemania. Booker fecking T.

That was fecking scandalous.

Agreed, everything about it. The racist build, the put down of Booker T (including mentioning David Arquette), the pedigree and Booker being down for like 2 minutes before hHH got the three/. WTF?
Especially after his cool battle royal win to eliminate the Rock.

Then again wasnt that the period where Rock made Hurricane look like a million bucks, and then 2 weeks later HHH is beating him and Rosie in a handicap match

Brock Lesnar will fight Bray Wyatt at Wrestlemania.

Why not just have The Rock vs Gangrel while we're at it?

What a waste

Why do you think it'll be a waste? I disagree I think Brock and Bray could be a great match. A type of wrestler we haven't seen Brock face in a while.

He's not though.. he was getting mixed reactions still throughout his feud with Wyatt. Survivor Series.... the cheer that went up when Sheamus cashed in and won. He was getting heckled between Survivor Series and TLC.

TLC came around and that and the Raw after helped get him over. Then the story since the New Year has just undone all the hard work, and we get to the Rumble where he's booed at his intro, he's booed when he gets back to the ring, cheers go up when Triple H enters and again when he eliminates Reigns...

That's not over, not at all.

Now they've booked him in a triple threat against Lesnar, Ambrose and Reigns. Who do you thinks going to get booed? What do you think will happen when he obviously pins Ambrose to win that match.

Over and popular are two different things.

Re: HHH WM, you gotta take him at WM with a pinch(bucket) of salt, he never got over WM-12.

More importantly, anyone got a handy link/source for all of season 1 of Lucha Underground?

Yes but he's not either.

Fans are not buying into Roman Reigns as the next face of the company, they don't care about him.

Except they do. Any reaction means they care.

Then again, fans werent buying into Cena being the face of the company. Guess he wasnt over either eh?

I don't think the heat Reigns is receiving at the moment is a result of him being unpopular but a protest against the booking he's getting.

The way they're trying to make him into a pseudo underdog just feels really artificial and pretty much a carbon copy of the Daniel Bryan story from a couple of years ago (which I wasn't a massive fan of anyway).

It's like he's being shoved down the throats of the fans, irrespective of whether or not they buy into his character.

Oh they care. But he's been mishandled so much that5fans don't know whether to boo or cheer that particular day.
I'd try and take him away from a Cena'esque good guy and give him some darker shades.. Like Sting had in WCW. Sulking, brooding brute who's fed up of the injustice and takes law into his own hands. Still a face, but just darker. Our own Dark Knight.

Yes, like he was in Shield or when he beat the crap out of HHH and Sheamus (and Vince). Be the badass not the underdog that nobody buys.

Ah but fans were brought into Cena at one point, just people started to turn on him for various reasons.

For me, to be over, people care about you or accept you/the gimmick e.g. they are buying into what your selling.

Currently, nobody is buying into what Roman Reigns is selling.

Reigns going into a Royal Rumble as a face, at #1, odds stacked against him so the big bad authority can take away his title... Did anybody really care? He got booed out the park. To me, that's not being over.

Go back to Stone Cold entering at number 1 in 99(?) in similar circumstances... Now that's over. Nobody booed when he came to the ring, Nobody cheered when McMahon chucked him over the rope.

That NXT Takeover card.

  • Finn Bálor vs. Samoa Joe II
  • Bayley vs. Asuka
  • Sami Zayn vs. Shinsuke Nakamura
  • American Alpha vs. Dash and Dawson
  • Baron Corbin vs. Austin Aries
  • Apollo Crews vs. The Drifter

Also another possible spoiler

According to WoN

Joe may be called up after Dallas and debut on the typical Raw after Mania, so that may give you the direction they're going with Dallas. Zayn maybe up soon to feud with Owens. Which imho is probably why Zayn was in the rumble.

WrestleMania is getting blown out of the water.

Samoa Joe vs Sami Zayn...
Going a full fecking hour near enough! Can't wait for that.

That was new. Two simultaneous submissions! Zayn's sharpshooter or Joe's crossface?

I love this stuff, think it shouldn't end a match if the ref can't be sure who won though. That's just me nit picking though.

I think they did it as a near fall for a Takeover when Kidd and Zayn had Breeze in a Sharpshooter/Koji Clutch but the ref never gave it because Neville blocked his eyeliner of the actual tap.

always thought in the 2 hour Raw days they should have done a 2 hour match 3 hours is too much like, was a real big advocate when Bryan and Punk were world champions, could have them brawl all over the arena and other people being dragged into it and having their feuds advance in there. But hey, I'm not a fan of formulaic shows so I may be an outlier

It is a waste. I don't know how long it will be before people realise Bray Wyatt is boring and crap. But the day will come and hopefully I can then stop fast forwarding key mania matches.

I find Bray boring too.

And overpushed . He needs to get over in the midcard first, win a couple of feuds and then put him in the marquee matches.

Chad Gable is so incredibly good. Good match! Not that impressed with Jax today, bit of a botchy match.

I like the Drifter's character and facial expressions, but he's so dissapointing in the ring.

"I watch you sleep, Bro" best contribution to NXT by Mojo Rawley ever.

Good match for #1 Contender with a nice open ending, even if the outcome is a bit predictable.

NXT Takeover card is looking incredible, can't wait for that!

A lot of people saying

It's a 5* match, with virtually no rest holds... at least no lengthy ones.

Takeover card is just ridiculous, probably going to be the best special NXT has ever done. Four contenders for MOTY right there. Can't believe we're actually getting
Bayley/Asuka
that's going to be incredible :drool::drool:

Yep, sounds like Reigns  Hes over dude, accept it.

Im sure Austin got done like this by Benoit and Jericho. But the ref continued the match as he couldnt tell who should have won (which kinda makes sense) hah.

I like that idea. Reminds me of those old Hardcore title matches where they'd go all around the arena.

I think kicking off the show with a confrontation between the two guys in question, having them basically decide to have a match there and then, and just going from there would have been great. As you get further and further into it, there’s that great “hang on, is this going the entire show?” feel.

Wouldn’t work for an entire three hour RAW, as you say, but even starting it in the second hour would be worth a watch. It’d be something different anyway. Plus I like the idea of, say, New Day complaining the next week that they never got to have their match because this one took up all the time.

How's Crews been doing on NXT? I haven't actually seen any of it since before he debuted.

Obviously our definitions vary. Cena was top guy for a few years, a lot of fans turned on him after a few years because he became stale.

Reigns isn't over because he got a few good pops for a few weeks or because he's booked like he's the top guy. When people cheer for a semi retired heel, who plays an authority figure in one of the most tired angles of Wrestling history, dumping you out the Rumble... you are certainly not over.

HHH is over as well (and was booked as a good guy). Of course he was going to get cheered.
Youre over when your merchandise is selling, people react to you (good or bad - he gets one of the loudest reactions either way) and youre in a top position. People care about him (one way or another).

It was a few months.

He was boo'ed after he won at SS, and Sheamus got cheered when he cashed in. TLC people cheered when Sheamus won. It turned around after TLC after he destroyed LoN and Triple H.

HHH is over as well (and was booked as a good guy). Of course he was going to get cheered.

When people cheer for the heel over you (this happened with Sheamus) when your booked as top face and people actively boo you... Your not over. When you get attacked but the LoN and nobody seems to care, your'e not over. You get booed when you make a heroic come back to the Rumble, you're not over. When you've gone from 1 to 28 and get dumped out and people cheer that you're out, you're not over.

The boo's are not people accepting him, or caring about him. They boo him because Roman Reigns is not the person many believe should be the top face of the company. So Reigns = not over, certainly not as the top face of the company.

By your theory, his reaction at the end of last years rumble, means he was over as well?

Anyway, you believe he is, i don't believe he is... this can go on for pages...
