Television Tho Prop Grops Throps

I haven't watched a proper RAW since 2014, but I listened to Jim Cornettes podcast where, for the past two weeks, he's tuned into RAW for the first time in forever and gave it a proper analysis.

He's got a great mind. I know they're polar opposites, but I'd love it if AEW got him on board.

He doesn't like to travel so when they end up having a bunch of shows it probably wouldnt sit right with him anyway. He did Impact for a little while because they did multiple tapings at once, and presumably AEW will be live

I'm sure Cornette would love to work with Omega and Joey Ryan.

Did I hear you deserve it chants during the Roman segment. Seems like a very weird choice of chant given the circumstances.

So thats it? The Big Dawg come back? Nice storyline there Vince.
What did you expect? They'll ease him back in.

Big Dave is back and looks like he'll be a heel which is even better. Hollywood Batista is one of the most under-appreciated characters in recent wrestling history. He was brilliant.

I really enjoyed that episode tbh. Not been watching much due to how horrible the show had gotten but I watched last night for the Roman return and Ric Flairs party and straight away i could see the quality had jumped up about 50 notches.

They have a reset with Roman now, it’s important they don’t push him too hard else they’ll be back to square one.

Weird, what is KO’s angle?

Have to say after being so hyped for the Becky vs Ronda match I have lost so much intrest in it. I wasn’t keen on Charlotte being in the match but the stuff they are giving her right now makes her seem like a side piece, it’s been awful, that Smackdown segment was terrible, Ronda it seems is still making a play for the baby face and I wish Becky would stop hopping around, they’ve rotally screwed this so far.

Now doing a watered down version of the parachute jump with Kofi although I can see that turning in to some sort of race storyline. I think Xavier says mid rant, “this wouldn’t have happened if he was white” so it’ll be intresting if they go down that route for Mania.

Fans getting worked.
Well it's a stupid work when you're saying stuff like "Fake like your non sensical BS “armbar” that doesn’t even work".

I don't care how work-shooty you want promos/social media to be, you don't start saying the moves look fake.

Specially when you are screaming in pain in the said picture. Like so a fake armbar is causing you that much pain?

I dont think its good either, but its clearly working when people are thinking its real.

No one thinks it's real. They think it's stupid that Rousey is using words like fake and scripted. Exactly the kind of crap Russo pulled in WCW that made him so hated.

They do think its real. There are people sending questions asking if its real to radio shows about wrestling. Also messages suggesting that on twitter

Yeah people are questioning whether its real or not, because Rousey supposedly has a reputation of having thin skin. Personally think its all a work but dont know why anyone thought it was a good idea to absolutely bury beckys disarmbar.

It’s made funnier by the fact the way Ronda is throwing her arm bars in WWE are nonsecial BS as well. Stupid idea to call in to question the actual effectiveness of Becky’s arm bar or any move in WWE really is stupid. Every person on the planet knows they are moves designed to be done in a safe manner why try and break the illusion.

Maybe they’ll have Rousey tap out to it at ‘mania?

Doubt it. That’s what Charlotte is in the match for. But knowing Vince he’d probably have her win. Would be hilarious too just to see the meltdowns.

I just can't get into this Becky / Rosey stuff... If it was just, two people wanting to fight without all this social media and arresting nonsense, I'd be into it... Instead you have all this crap going on, whilst Charlotte is just saying "don't forget about me! Hey look at me, I'm involved in this match for some reason, remember?!"

Just got back from watching "Fighting with my Family" and its actually pretty good. I spoke to a friend who works for the BFI and its being rumoured as a outside chance of being a nominee for a Bafta for best adapted screenplay & best British film. I know its not a entirely wwe produced film but it could be a pretty big thing for them being associated if it comes to pass...

Personally i know little about Paige (bar hearing of her injury and the "other" movie released). I stopped watching wrestling about early 00s and only recently have a fleeting interest in it due to wwe stock, so completely missed the whole period of when Paige was in.

I've watched some clips and promos on YouTube of her and find there's a lot to be desired in the statement of her revolutionising the women division, I wasn't expecting a Rock or Stone Cold type influence but something more distinctive (other then her look) about her. Infact having dug a little deeper into the background of the film, it appears as far back as 2012 a film was going to be made about her (after the Rock watched the documentary about her family), which led to the Rock of all people in 2014 being the one that actually told her the she was going to win the title on her debut and then in that same conversation that a film was going to be made about her even before she was a main roster wrestler....

Knowing this, to me, it seems like anything that happened to her (wwe related) after the events of the documentary, was like a real life staged storyline, with her being out of the loop of (who knew WWE could be able to pull off a year(s) long storyline). This takes the gloss off the whole Rocky themed third act they were trying to portray of her as the underdog, digging deep to get to where she got to as she was essentially being groomed from 2012 to 2014 to win the title on her debut, and the Rock segment telling her was orchestrated with the sole intention of putting the entire sequence in a movie one day....I probably would have liked not to have known the background of this as it drops the authenticity of movie a bit and lowered my rating of it, but its also when the film for me became a movie more about her brother and how he handled it, rather then the story focusing on her making it...

Interested to see if they do a second one, as having read a bit more about her (not sure how much is true) there's certainly enough material to squeeze another out. Question is, if WWE wants to be associated with it given the content issues it will likely focus on... The end credits did not mention she's retired so they could be positioning for another, chronicling the events upto her retirement...

Paige / Emma from nxt was the actual start of this current women's revolution in WWE (I say current cos they for some reason try and dismiss the other women periods which had fantastic matches when time was devoted)
And also cos they act like it was due to Stephanie McMahon for some reason

Paige made use of limited time along with AJ when she was called up and both had the best stuff during a heavy divas period and over time it lead to fans wanting more and getting pissed off at 10 second multi women matches for one segment on a 3 hour show

In all honesty Paige was the person that got me back in to wrestling, had stopped watching it then one day just flicking through the channels and it was on and it was a segment with her and she just seemed and acted so different to all the other divas. So out of intrest looked in to her, saw the match with Emma and the behind the scenes stuff and just started to watch a few more eps and got back in to it.

Always thought the back end of this video was intresting, talking with Steph and triple H

Jesus look at the end of this video and who is all in the ring, they all look so different. Charlotte, Sasha, Bliss, Hugger, Alicia Fox, few others who I can’t recall their names.

@starman loads of extra material for a sequel as even listening to her talk about what her life was like, the eating disorder, the drugs, her hair falling out, the depression, considering suicide, coming back from all that then being forced to retire, you just can’t write that stuff but I don’t think she would want the whole home movie thing glamourised and it would surely be a massive part in any follow up movie.

I’m going to go see it tomorrow but I agree with what you mentioned about the rock,
I’d never heard of this until recently and I wish it had never come to light as it does now seem just engineered other than her just pulling herself up to that position.

Kayfabe has been dead for a while but at this point, they're just shitting on its grave.

All this "reality" is reminiscent of WCW in its death throes. It makes me care less and less.

Pretty much fast forwarded the whole of Raw but that last 5 minutes when Ronda showed up, that is who she should have been a lot earlier but seems like a good enough time with what’s been happening, good promo from her but still screw the triple threat match.

Did Paige beat AJ Lee for the title originally?
I assume AJ is airbrushed out of history in the film....

Haven’t seen it yet but AJ is in the trailer and I’ve heard mention of her being in the film. It’s not a WWE film so she is included and yeah Paige beat her on her first night on the mains.

It's really weird at the minute.

They're going edgier as has been reported and it's actually working. They still have lulls in the product (christ RAW needs to go back to 2 hours) but it feels better to me the last few months and yet viewing figures continue to decline and the atmosphere at the shows is horrible.

They shot themselves in the foot going for children because it's gonna take forever to bring back any semblence of excitement from the crowd no matter how good the product gets.

Becky and Ronda breaking kayfabe and generally tearing the house down as a feud, something that'll get serious mainstream audiences/hype for the main event at least being such a significant thing.
HHH and Batista breaking kayfabe
Roman coming back after a real life thing and the Shield being incorporated into it.
Bryan over on Smackdown finally making a main title worth it.
More use of weapons and generally more brutality.
Even the music seems to be changing for the better and going edgier.

And yet, it feels flat all the same.

NXT fans are brilliant and that continues to go from strength to strength but they can't translate NXT to the two main shows.

Still don’t really see where this KO vs Bryan thing is going but I would like to see a match out of these two when KO isn’t playing the cowardly heel, so looking forward to it but something is surely going to happen with Kofi.

Ciampa has to have neck surgery and could be out from anywhere between 6 to 14 months, according to Meltzer.

That is shit.

Are they giving Kofi pretty much similar story to Becky?

I really hope if both matches are triple threat at WM, they dont use the copout of 'injuring' one person, they are taken away, and then miraculously come back near the end to win.
