Thibaut Courtois

What are they supposed to do? Release Cech?

It actually makes sense on Chelsea's behalf. Top top goalkeepers are very rare and even rarer to actually get one as I'm sure united fans are more aware than most. By buying him young and putting him on loan for a couple of years it gives him time to improve, learn English properly to communicate with his teammates when he returns. He has got experience of winning trophies now and is no doubt a much better player for the loan. Chelsea get a top goalkeeper secured for the future and I have no doubt he will displace Cech next season, with him possibly going to Barca or following an ex Chelsea manager somewhere, maybe Monaco if Ranieri survives

Yeah, that would be fecking terrific news. The odds of DDG joining Real Madrid are far less likely considering his love for Atletico. With Barca ruled out, I'd feel a lot more comfortable.

:D

Thibaut Courtois wants to leave Chelsea & sign for Barcelona
Catalan paper Sport lead with Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois on their front page today with the claim the Belgian wants to leave Stamford Bridge for Barcelona.
Thibaut Courtois has already established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the world during his loan spell at Atletico Madrid.
Signed by the Blues from Genk for just 9 million euros, Courtois has been a major reason behind Atletico Madrid’s success under Diego Simeone and is a key part of a side that has started the 2013/2014 La Liga season with 8 successive victories.
Sport suggest on Tuesday morning that Courtois is now Barcelona’s first choice to replace Victor Valdes who is out of contract at the end of the season and expected to join Monaco next summer.
Crucially, Courtois is eager to stay in Spain and feels he is unlikely to dislodge Petr Cech in the Chelsea goal.
Despite the fact Courtois is contracted to Chelsea until 2016, the Belgian has made it clear to Barcelona that he will push through a move to the Nou Camp, a fact that was relayed during the negotiations over David Villa’s sale to Atletico Madrid in the summer.
This could be one of the major 2014 summer transfer stories, especially if Courtois continues to impress for Atletico and then shines for Belgium at the World Cup.
Barcelona will throw a lot of cash at their next goalkeeper, according to Sport and a key player in this saga could be Jose Mourinho who will have to convince Courtois to stay at Stamford Bridge.

The Sport link is nothing revelatory but Rosell claiming in a recent interview that he likes Courtois is perhaps more compelling news. Still, he's contracted to Chelsea through '16 and would not be easy nevermind cheap to pry away. Still think other keepers are more likely than Courtois at this point.

:drool::cool::D

If Barca don't sign De Gea I can't see him moving anywhere else meaning he could well become one of our all time great players.

You gotta say though, Courtois is quality. It'd be insane for Chelsea to sell him, but who knows with that lot.

Definitely quality and proven in La Liga which is a big selling point, obviously. But Chelsea & Mou? I think Barcelona would be priced out of such a move.

Thanks Damo.

Couldn't remember whether he played in the Super Cup or not.
He did. I'd think he would be eligible playing against Chelsea.

But can't see Mourinho selling him. Cech has been on the decline for a couple of seasons now IMO.

Who do you see Barca ending up with then? I think that times are changing regarding keepers, as they are elsewhere in the transfer market. You really do have to pay relatively big money for a quality keeper unlike a couple of years ago.

I reckon Reina will be there next year.

I think the Reina rumours are accurate as are the ones with Ter Stegen. Tata likes Guzman and so it could be any two out of those three. But it's early and a lot can happen between now & Spring - I don't think Rosell will wait until summer and the WC looming to tie someone up to a 'pre-contract'. I think it will get leaked in March/April.

I don't think Barca are going to be willing to spend the sort of money De Gea or Courtois would cost. They'll do the usual of tapping them up publicly hoping the player forces the move. but neither United nor Chelsea need to sell.

Athletico are fairly handy nowadays....

Journos love making up shit, don't they? Barca sold Villa to Atlético last Summer so Courtois would have been topical, surely. 2 and 2 together. Except that there's feck all leverage Atlético have on his transfer to Barca.

Best keeper in the world according to some experts on here

Bit unlucky there with the deflection - but it's on him, obviously, shouldn't let that in. He was very good the last time I saw him, though. You're allowed the odd howler, I'd say: With great keepers* it's just the exception which proves the rule, really.

* Not saying he is - but he must be in the very top bracket of up and coming keepers.

Wouldn't say that is as bad as it seems really.

The deflection takes it a completely different path, you could argue he is a little slow back across goal, but the angle the ball drops into the goal is very awkward. Apart from flying headfirst into the post and blocking it I do no think he could have done a lot more really.

He made an aerial mistake!! Burn him!! Destroy him!!

Seriously though, hes a great keeper, but never going to usurp Cech for a few years yet, he was excellent again last night.

Oh noez, a 21 year old keeper making a mistake. Probably his first mistake this season actually. Time for Chelsea to cut their losses.

Bloody hell, even the best of them feck up at times. Yeah it was a clanger but it's nowhere near as terrible as some have made out.

It was a bad error, it happens, it doesn't diminish his reputation as being a very good goalkeeper, he is young and progressing well. This is no more than an entry in a bloopers reel.
