Thibaut Courtois

What when we finished 6 points behind United with 83 points with Rooney Ronaldo and Van Nistlerooy? Hardly a disaster, and we arent facing a team as good as that next season.

Plus Shevva was coming to the end of his career, Fabregas and Costa are still at their peak. Ballack was a good signing over the time he was there.

So you are assuming we won't strengthen and the players won't improve under LvG? You were coming off the back of 2 comfortable title wins and had strengthened greatly. Fact is no one knew our young players would peak. So you cannot assume to know what we can/cannot do next season.

Huh, whats this got to do with United? You were saying as though our signings dont mean much, not sure why you suddenly brought United next season into the equation unless you were saying that United are going to be the main threat next season, which I would majorly disagree on.

You brought United into the equation by saying that it was only due to us having a great team all those seasons back that Chelsea didn't win the title. I just mentioned that you signing Fabregas and getting back Courtois ia no different from the season when you strengthened to a double winning squad which had won back to back titles. No one envisioned that United would comfortably beat you to the title. Np ome thought that you could be stopped as you had added a couple of proven world class players to your ranks. So this fear, or in your case joy, that Chelsea will be unstoppable next season has been proven as wrong im the past. Regarding United, a lot was said about our chances to compete even that season. People were very unsure if Rooney and Ronaldo were the answer. All that was proven wrong immediately. So this assumption that United will not be back next awason, even though we have not yet played our hand in the transfer market, is silly.

You lot will be back in a few years, but the idea that you're going to magically fix your squad in a single transfer window is just unrealistic. For you to compete next year you not only need us to fail hard, but also Man City, Liverpool and Arsenal. I fully expect you to be back up there by the season after next, but you're currently deep in transition.

I don't see Liverpool kicking on. Just a gut feeling, they need big investment to compete both domestically and in Europe. We probably won't win the league but I am confident we will get top 4.

This myth that our squad needs a huge overhaul is because we had an inept manager at the helm. Much like how you lot suffered under AVB. I am sure we will see a major difference in the player's performance this coming season under LvG.

Ruud was gone, Ronaldo before that season was just a fancy winger who was coming back after the whole winking thing at the world cup. United were in no way favorites for the title that year and surprised everyone by winning it.

This should apply to some but you cant turn an average player who played terrible under Moyes into great player under LvG, maybe he can get them back to average but that is not enough, a fair few need to be cleared out and replaced with better quality.

I'd actually agree with you on Liverpool, I can only see them slipping down from here on out. Competition at the top is increasingly hot though.

Many of us were saying from the last season of SAF that you guys were in desperate need of an overhaul. That last title win was a huge credit to SAF but really did disguise the fact that your squad was aging badly and the new guys were pretty average. You need some serious spend to make you back into a title contending team now us and City are sorted out.

As for AVB btw, the team he had wasn't title ready either. The CL was a massive fluke for us.

Its not a myth. If you believe it is a myth, or rather if LVG believes its a myth you wont be near the top any time soon. However LVG doesnt believe it.

I am pretty sure that with 2-3 quality additions, we will be up there again. Only time will tell who is right on this.

Unless those 3 are Vidal, Kroos, and Hummels then I see no way we'll be title contenders.

I see you have great faith in our team :)
Look at the XI's and quality depth that City and Chelsea have compared to ourselves. They're miles better currently. Hard to be optimistic at this moment when we have no signings thus far (understandable with WC going on) and with literally no clue of who we're targeting.

Chelsea are adding 2-3 world class players to their already great side and City already had a great side. We need world class quality players desperately and haven't shown any urgency at all.

Umm how many years has a new CM been needed? How many years has a new CB been needed?

Fergie squeezed just about every drop out if the talent that was available for the title in 2012-2013.

No this isn't a defend Moyes post as he was atrocious but the midfield has been haggard and below standard for a few years Evra, Vidic, Ferdinand were moving closer and closer to end.

RVP is still immense when healthy but given his injury history he's good for 1 season out of 2 and he's getting closer to end of his career. Rooney looks to have hit the wall early. Young was a bust. Nani and Valencia apparently forgot how to play.

Van Gaal will help quite a bit and with the right transfer could put United in a position to challenge, but that's assuming that Chelsea and City don't improve, Liverpool loses Suarez, and Arsene does nothing.

So unless you think Pogba, Vidal, Varane, Di Maria, and Bahtia are coming this summer it would be prudent to wait and see how the team shakes out.

What about Liverpool? They almost won the title and their squad - atleast on paper is way worse than our squad .

It would be hard to win the title but people are underrating this squad.

So basically, Liverpool are now perennial title challengers after not being on the map for years after making a couple of good additions and United are now going to be mid table because we are dire! The negativity on here is actually mind numbing.

Not what I said. Merely stated that nothing is simply as easy as changing the coach and the current talent level wasn't as great as some think it to be.

Too many entitled and spoiled fans think that just because United is the name across the jersey that being title contender is an automatic.

No one thinks we will be automatic title contenders. But the amount of people already ready to hand the title to Chelsea before any team has made some important buys is crazy. Moreover, many big teams have had one poor season only for them to bounce back the next, so this lack of faith in the team you support is what bugs me.

A poor season for the defending champions would've been finishing 4th. Then I'd have a bit of optimism and think "oh, we weren't too far behind the pack." We finished 7th which was abysmal. We have a huge task ahead just fighting for 4th never mind fighting for the title.

Chelsea finished 6th and then came back strongly the following season.

Like I said, they won the CL which allowed them to continue in the competition and sign Hazard.
