He won't get many games in his natural position like but I still think they might try and shoe-horn him in the side just to be able to keep a hold of him. Wouldn't surprise me at all if they gave him a roaming role on the flank next season, similar to the one Kagawa has played for us at times.

He's that good I just can't see them letting him go that easily. I really hope I'm wrong though.

If all the talk around him hvaing a release clause is correct - and it seems to be considered fairly accurate, Barca have no choice in the matter.

The simple fact is they have too many talented midfiedlers. He wants to play to get in Spain's world cup squad so needs regular game time so if they cant offer him that then he'll surely go.

Do you mean put him on Messi's flank or Neymar's?

Sure they play Messi as a forward these days like.

Cristian Tello got twenty-two starts on the wings for them last season and Thiago is a much better prospect than he is. They could mostly use Thiago out wide, the same way we did at times with Kagawa, and occasionally give him games in the centre just the same. They could easily give him enough games if they are so inclined and, after watching him, I don't understand why they wouldn't be.

Like I said, I hope I'm wrong, but I really think that's the most likely outcome.

Sky Sports said we were linked to him in the match review of yesterdays game. That is the first time I have seen anything even remotely official.

I can't see them shoe horning him into wide positions and I can't see him liking them doing that. It would hardly back up his claim for a World Cup spot. Not like starting 40+ games for us in the middle would. He's 22 and he wants to start making his career as a midfielder playing week in week out. It's not that hard to believe that he thinks that will have to be away from Barcelona.

Are we really interested in him or this a smokescreen for our real target Leon Osman or Felliani?

That's not even remotely official. Just means they read tabloid bollocks too.

Read some bits in my local paper 'metro', that said about the fact he has told Barcelona he wants to leave, leaving the door wide open yada yada, no quotes again though, but it does seem to be picking up steam, just have to hope it ends how we want it.

I forget the agony every damn year, while the actual football goes on.

It's hell waiting in the dark, praying every living moment that I'll soon be greeted by the official confirmation that we've signed the summer transfer target of our wildest dreams.

And whatever we do, we can't win, for the muppetry is too strong, and but a taste will merely leave us yearning for more. Like last season, when we signed Kagawa. It didn't matter, it just made me want more. More signings. It went as far as me barely noticing the Büttner-signing. I imagine that is what drug addicts who get a sip of beer feel like.

So I'll long for the Thiago signing, knowing deep down that it won't happen in all probability. And even if it does, we'll still need to solve the Rooney-situation, bring in a winger, etc.

God the pain.

Newspaper linking us with Thiago throughout= We aren't interested in him.
Not a single person on earth linked us with Osman= We are interested him.

The logic here is stunning.

I wonder do City and Chelsea forums have similar threads. Or are they so used to buying loads of expensive players evewry window do they get bored of it.

One thing for sure, I bet they dont give a shite about re sell value etc...

We all know that papers use us to sell... how many millions of players are we linked with every season, and yet we only sign say 5 in a year. Plus, this year the uncertainty of a new boss / new chief exec is getting to many. We don't know, for the first time in a very long time, what sort of players we are likely to be interested in.

The Osman thing was pretty tongue in cheek to be fair.

Obviously the real target here is Charlie Adam.

The first three time people made jokes about Moyes signing Osman or Anichebe was funny, but now it is very boring.

Well not only that. We have to many posters who are to lazy or don't understand the concept of clausul, to much negativity and to much unneccessery smileys.

Things I'm interested about apart from him signing for us is;

a) will we change our style of play with a possession minded mf?
b) can we play with both him and Roo or are they to similar?
c) will he walk directly in to our first iX?

A) I doubt we will change it much, just be better at it.
B) They are nothing alike, at all.
C) Yes.

Nsis....

Damn you, my reply to this was going to be way more unnecessarily scathing. Now you've ruined it.
Actually, feck it.

a) Yep, finally owning a 'possession minded mf' after all these years of Scholes and Carrick, we will stop emulating Stoke FC.
b) The real question should be 'can we play with him and Vidic or are they too similar?'
c) Nope, Ando will keep him out (it's impossible to squeeze past him in the tunnel, you see.)

With all the extra pages overnight I was expecting something to have taken off.

I'm a bit worried now about Chelsea joining in, they can outbid us on any player and I don't see why they won't just outbid us on Thiago.

For feck sake I'm joking, I know what a release clause is.

Because it isn't about the money. The only reason he wants to leave Barca is because of playing time.

We are his best option with playing time available. Chelsea have Mikel, Ramires, Lampard, Romeu Luiz, for 2 positions.

Sure he is probably better than all of them, but he would only be purchased out of want rather than necessity.

I'm sure Thiago would rather join a club known for footballing reasons rather than money, or he would be going to Monaco.

Adam I was ironically taking the piss out of all the people who don't seem to know what a release clause is.

This thread has moved forward by 10 pages overnight. Have we signed him yet?

Fair enough, its just really quite annoying that all these people are panicking because Chelsea have suddenly thrown their hat in the ring. Roman cannot buy every bright star that takes his fancy. The kid has come from money, I don't think material wealth motivates him.

Is Moyes still on holiday? After seeing our opening 5 fixtures, he needs to get his ass back here and get some shopping done. Shame Thiago wasnt done before his U21 heroics. Cant see it happening now (ie Barca will keep him)

1. Moyes doesn't officially start until 1 July.
2. He doesn't need to be directly involved in transfer business.
3. Barca are powerless due to the release clause, which has been mentioned about 2592729244 times.

Not trying to nit pick, but bit of an assumption isn't it?

But if his release clause is triggered based on not playing enough games, then unless Thiago himself is fine with being patient and essentially waiting for Xavi to be phased out, then he will have the option to leave. He seems desperate to play, so staying at Barca based on having a good competition still doesn't suit his needs, as he'll still have Xavi, Iniesta, Fabregas and even Busquets to challenge with (I assume Song and Mascherano don't even play midfield anymore?)

That's the overly optimistic view anyway. I'm leaving myself wide open for disappointment like I did with Hazard and Moura.

ffs, I've refreshed this page a hundred times already this morning, and am refreshing twitter and many reputable sports sites such as caught offside and goal.com. I've even ordered my Thiago bed sheets, mug and keyring

A reasonable assumption, yes.

I would have thought the new manager would have WANTED to have been in direct involvement with transfers, especially at the start of his tenure...

I would assume quite the opposite, I would imagine that he will want to be as close to it as possible, why wouldn't he need/want to be involved? I'm not challenging, just enquiring...
