To be fair to Ramsey the injury really set him back he looked a great prospect at Cardiff and initially at Arsenal. Thaigo is a different class he would be one of the leagues best midfielders immediately. Let's see what happens with him. Unlike Sneijder he is at a great price meaning we can afford to give him top wages. I don't understand why people are comparing this to failed attempts this a unique situation. Unless you are aiming low so if we don't get him your heart won't be shattered. A few would collapse from what i'm reading  .

Honestly mate, it's not good for me to be drawn into such things. I just let it happen as I got carried with it all. I really want us to sign this lad but my gut says we'll narrowly miss out. As a result, I just decided to distance myself. It is obvious I don't have what it takes to be transfer muppet. You lot are more persistent

I'm not a muppet, I just come in here to laugh at them!

Wise words. I too counsel our witnessing the future when it arrives.

Another plus point - with FFP getting tighter, can Chelsea or City afford to give another player top wages?.

We've just got rid of Scholes on the wage bill, his 80-100k sure could come in nicely right now.

Errr, was he not on around £20k or so when he came back?

I'd imagine we will clear a few more off that list before July 1st as well, can't imagine Ando is on peanuts, surely on a good £60k p/w I would have thought basic

Nobody has had to explain the concept of a release clause on this page. Has it finally sunk in?

What's the point, Barcelona have only up'd his price to 60m+ after last nights performance. Why bother?

Let's see who takes the bait

Abramovich attends Chelsea's FA Youth Cup matches, U-15 matches etc. While he may not have watched this, he's probably more invested than most people think.

Wow. He's really committed to Chelsea, and football in general isn't he? Only if his money were clean.

Has the official existence of the release clause been confirmed? It's very good for his suitors to be able to get him so cheaply, but it does seem like a harsh clause for the parent club to have, and an unrealistic one to agree to.

some pretty pointless pique quotes -

"There is a possibility that he could leave but we have to convince him that the best place for him is Barcelona," said Pique.
"Players in his position like Xavi were patient and they ended up defining an era."

Harsh? They're the ones that agreed to it. I doubt many feel sympathy. All the big clubs lose talents. It's the price we pay for having good teams because invariably it's difficult to fit them in

is it just me or do barca players actually talk too much? especially about transfers in and out.

They're used as part of the transfer system at Barcelona, from what I've seen. The players have always happily offered their opinion on any player, it's probably used to knock a couple of million off transfer fees when the targeted player is inevitable tempted.

If he was so valued, wouldn't they have made a better effort to get him to stay? Asking for their opinions now just seem daft.

All they do is make it so awkward for the player in question that eventually they just give in to prevent further embarrassment. I can still see Fabregas essentially being raped with a Barcelona shirt.

I mean, it's not as if Thiago is going to see those comments from Pique and change his mind. The only consequence is that if he does move, it will be extra uncomfortable the next time they meet.

Yes, by Rossell the Barca president. But he says that people misunderstand the clause. It wasn't 90m and dropped to 18m because he didn't play enough. It was 18m and would have risen to 90m if he had played more. Potato, potato.

As for a harsh clause - Thiago agreed to a new contract on the basis of it. Why would he have wanted to sign a contract that didn't give him what he wanted, in this case either more playing or a chance to get more playing time somewhere else.

Which implies he's always been well aware that competing for a place in that midfield would be nigh in impossible.

Perhaps he's been resigned to leaving for a while, and has spent as much time and effort as possible to convince himself he had a chance, but now he's given up.

Sign him up.

Pique can piss off.

And there was another quote from him where he says Barca should not be looking to sign a CB because if Puyol is fit he is still a top CB. So basically he doesn't want competition in his own position, while players like Thiago should patiently bide their team despite the midfield at Barca being brim full with talent and competition. What a bell end.
