Thiago Alcantara | Signed for Bayern Munich

 Because Thiago and his dad (ageing, slightly frazzled World Cup winner Mazinho) seem like master manipulators of the press, leaking stories here and there to carefully engineer the conditions for a bumper pay rise.

Or, you know, because either the media made up some crap (never!) or we were interested in him but for one reason or another (our loss or interest, Thiago deciding to stay, Barca raising their contract offer in order to keep him) it didn't happen.

'use United', honestly...

I get the feeling you really want this one to happen...

His touch and awareness is amazing. I read somewhere that the thing that makes him special is that fact that he can pull off a moment of magic, but then he's able to revert back to more simpler, metronomic midfield play. He's got it all, and he'd be the perfect signing for us. Please fecking make it happen, United!

Thiago Alcantara may have priced himself out of a summer move to Manchester United after he netted a hat-trick in Spain’s European Under-21 Championship final victory over Italy.
The Spanish captain hit three first-half goals as his side retained their title with a 4-2 victory in Jerusalem’s Teddy Stadium, joining the senior squad in earning back-to-back European crowns.
But the Barcelona midfielder could be left ruing his heroics, with his transfer fee now surely set to rise, possibly putting him beyond the reach of Manchester United.
Thiago has made little secret of his desire to quit the Nou Camp this summer in pursuit of first team football.
But his original estimated value of £15m now looks a rather dated sum, following his impressive performances on the international stage over the past two weeks.

feck me, sports journalism really is in the mire at the moment.

As fantastic as this guy is, even for £15 million or so million that's being quoted, I seriously doubt we will even make a bid for him.

For those of you that have been keeping tabs on Moyes before he became the new boss- is he the kind of player that he'd even go for?

Arteta only way better?

The more the media tout that £15m figure around, the less likely he will be sold for that amount. He is a Barca product, it is obvious that he is worth far more than that, he will not turn his back on them and I think he will be persuaded to sign a new contract that will raise his buyout to a ridiculous amount, Spanish style, and perhaps he will leave in a few years unless Cesc goes first.

Interesting read indeed, but didn't Thiago just confirm his €18mil release clause in that interview after the final? Or were the caf's 'translators' having a laugh?

The release clause was definitely confirmed, think the president confirmed it.

If anyone could translate Spanish, would be terrific:

But there is mention of de Gea "inviting" Thiago to celebrate the victory at his house in Manchester, and he talks about his release clause there, so this clause must be correct. That's all I can gather.

He also confirms he speaks English and the reporter mentions moving to England several times.

DDG doing his job!

Thiago comes across as a very mature and level headed young man. He said he just wants to play.
He didn't say anything about the 21st of June. She asked him about his future and he said his immediate future was in Israel (this was presumably before the final), the commentator refered to the DDG comments being from Yesterday. Not sure how old the interview is.
For what it's worth the interviewer seems dead set on the idea that he's moving to England. And when she asks him to confirm it he says that he sees his immediate future in Israel. She then responds by saying "but I was asking you about England". To which he chuckles and says "I know". No further elaboration on that point. She then asks him if he speaks English and he says "A little". He also said he's being talking to his teammates about the problems and challenges they face in playing for other clubs. The interviewer prefaces all the questions by saying that it's "almost certain you'll be leaving" which he doesn't refute at all.

Translation = it's f****** on!

So, because he's unhappy with not being given enough chances he'll sign an extension and sit on the bench for another season or two, only to leave when he'll finally start playing (once Xavi gets older)? Flawless logic. If he signs an extension he'll most likely stay at Barca forever.

48 more pages, comon muppets.
Also this most of the recent posts are in tunes of:

1) He's going to Bayern/Chelsea/Vikings
2)Misunderstanding of release clause
3)Clarification of what a release clause is
4)Serious undermining of United
5) Grade a muppetry(this I can fully get behind)
6) Quoting newspapers that obviously made stuff up.(Thiago and Roman are going on a picnic tomorrow)

There's no way Barca are going to let him go for just 15M, he's worth way more than that. City or Chelsea will outbid us for sure. Plus we are total crap in the transfer market. No-one ever wants to move to us. We'll probably get Osman instead. Who's gonna bite?

I wish more people played FM.

I just saw the barcastuff tweet in the twitter transfer thread.............:nervous:

Don't panic. The same twitter ITK later reported that Thiago had received only two concrete offers. One from United, one from Bayern. This is presumably in spite of all the handjobs from Roman Abrahamovich.

A question that doesn't belong to this thread but still, when we were interested in Kagawa, were there other teams too ?

None, because if they had been, we absolutely wouldn't have signed him. Rank ineptitude and lack of pulling power. We'd have gotten Osman a year early.

Players can't have missed what happened for Ronaldo when he moved to United. Especially now that we are short of class in midfield.

I think I read that Madrid, arsenal and a few others were interested but he said from the start he only wanted united because he supported us growing up in Japan.
