feck sake. The one time I actually get slightly invested in transfer muppetry I am left feeling disappointed

There's a difference between getting caught up in the news and getting caught up in the opinions surrounding the news. I haven't seen anything which suggests this deal is off. Only the fluctuating emotions which happens when you want something so bad. Let's hope this ends in a good Caf meltdown

None of you cnuts slitting your wrists now get to celebrate when we do sign him.

Yep, feck the deserters. They should be ashamed of themselves and shouldn't be allowed to post in Thiago's thread when he scores screamers for us.

It's incredible how my opinion and personal feelings on the "will he won't he" debate is so easily and heavily influenced by posts on here!

Last night I was totally convinced we were signing him. Not only by what I had read but by the fact that it just made sense. One post saying that he's close to signing a new contract and I've totally changed my mind, now agreeing that it was always the logical choice and its clear he was just allowing the rumours to grow to strengthen his position at Barca.

I'm not even joking!

Phew, I'm back to believing he's signing again. Thanks chaps. x

That Rafael bloke from Twatter is stating his opinion while being realistic. Deals fall through all the time. At the end of the day we are still where we are when Graham Hunter said we are close to agreeing terms. Have hope people!

Jesus Christ u lot are a bunch of bottlers.

Yes the trail has gone cold because there is no further developments yet.

Sit patient boys

I don't see why anyone is trusting this :

Thiago's entourage denies personal terms have been agreed with Man United. Still considering future, although almost made his mind up [rac1]

A couple of weeks ag that radio station came up with this:

Thiago Alcantara has been informed by Barcelona they plan to sell him.
RAC-1 says Barca officials have told the midfielder they are making him available this summer.
Thiago is a top target for Manchester City, while Manchester United andPSG are also being linked. http://www.tribalfootball.com/artic...et-thiago-they-plan-sell-3959137#.UcSqjYO9KSN

Believable? Sounds to me like they have no idea what is going on with Thiago.

I'm remaining positive. He's exactly what we need and right now we are what he needs too. There is a gaping Scholesy sized hole in our midfield that he can come and play in every week.

It could happen, just because his dad said he hasnt agreed terms it means feck all. United doesnt let anything come out until the players been signed, we will never know when hes agreed terms because United wont want it to come out.

My intention is not to put a downer in this thread, however, despite intense media speculation (mostly sheep mentality) I'm not raising my hopes. I still think United's interest will act as a leverage for Thiago to sign a more lucrative contract, and promise of more playing time.

I sincerely hope I'm wrong.

It's the typical boom-bust cycle with our transfers.

Rumors of us signing the player: "OMFG we are signing a CM. Wooohooo we will be world class again, CL already in the bag, take that Bayern and Barca."
A rumor appears that the player may not join us after all: "OMFG I knew, we never sign CMs, all the good players go to City, we will be relegated next year mimimiimimi."
Player really doesn't come here: "feck this shit, he is overrated anyways, never wanted him in the first place yada yada yada."

Gotta love transfer muppetry, soo much drama, so much excitement.

A number of Barca staff members have made it clear that the club isn't going the extra mile to keep Thiago; instead, they've bemoaned his supposed lack of patience, and also stated that "the ball is in his court" (showing that they feel they've gone as far as they can with negotiations). Rather than being proactive, they seem resigned to losing the player. In short, it's still on.

all speculation based on assumption, it wont happen

The comments from Barca staff, including Tito Vilanova & Sandro Rosell, were all public statements.

There's definitely something going on, Steve. I'd just be shocked if they let such a talented kid go without a fight.

Still speculation based on interpretation and assumption

Ok then...What - and where - is your justification for stating that Thiago will stay at Barca?

Stop worrying lads. I remember DDG saying something similar when asked before we signed him.

I'm exactly as confident as I have been for a couple of days: i.e. I don't think he's about to sign or in the process of negotiating a contract with United, because although he has his dad and other agents I still believe he wouldn't do that sort of thing while on holiday. But I still think, based on the reliable information - statements from the player, his dad, Barca officials and Barca players - that he wants to leave, for reasons which Barca can do little to change, and that we are comfortably the first choice from the clubs that would like to sign him.

Don't see anything happening for a week or so, though. When he gets back from his holiday, I expect stuff will move very quickly.

Yeah, true enough, mate. None of us know for sure what's going to happen.

where did i say he would stay at Barca, please show me my quote. You just dreamt that up, assumption and speculation at work. You just provided a great example.

Where does he fit in? Thiago's dad has never been shy in saying Thiago will move away to play first team football.

Reading that makes you wonder if they have actually ever seen him play. He isn't slow by any means, isn't the fastest player out there but for center midfield standards, he is pretty quick. I don't think any center mid would come up favourably speed wise when compared to Ramires.
Exactly plus this pace thing is overrated for central midfielders. Some of the best CMs are not quick at all - Xavi, Pirlo, Scholes, Alonso, Busquets, De Rossi, etc. And in my opinion Thiago looks faster than the ones I mentioned.

 What a dick you are. He made a statement based on actual public statements from Rosell etc. You claimed it was 'assumption and speculation'. Now, when someone has corrected you, you're getting all huffy and defensive.

Yeah, pace is barely even a requirement for CM. It's probably the position on the pitch where speed is least important. And as you say, Thiago is pretty nippy anyway. Probably about as fast as Iniesta. He certainly has more than enough pace to pull away from someone once he's tricked his way past them.

Yes, you're right - my mistake. But feel free to rephrase my question and then answer it.

hang on, he stated that I stated he was staying at Barca. here is his quote "Ok then...What - and where - is your justification for stating that Thiago will stay at Barca?"
Show me my quote where I stated he was staying at Barca. Im not huffy and defensive, that again is you dreaming something up in your own head. Another perfect example of assumption based on nothing which is what the vast majority of this thread is.
