Thiago Alcantara | Pool bound

I think Van De Beek is who we will get but we are in for Thiago if we can. Hence the monitoring of Van De Beek

Wonder if between Thiago and DVB this is us moving on from Sancho and going for a bunch of lower priced players instead?

Dunno, this link feels like the obligatory, look fans we beat United for him. Either way I'm in. Sancho, Grealish, DVB, Thiago, Hauge and a defender. Awesome summer.

said it months ago but cant believe we arent in for this guy. Offer bayern what they want, offer him a good salary and at least see if he has any interest.

At the very least it will make liverpool pay full price in both fee and wage.

Liverpool bound for sure unless they are so broke they can’t afford €30m which I doubt.
Wages will probably be an issue for them. Apparently he's on about 200k a week, he'd likely want a pay rise and 220k is the highest Liverpool have in the squad. They'd probably need to give him a massive signing on fee to keep his weekly wages low to keep people happy.

Assuming instalments on Sanchos side would have been agreed, Sancho is the priority so I don't see the other transfers happening if Sancho hasn't already been agreed between the clubs.

So... Maybe de Gea had it right all along?

Quite why we are not in the market for this class player, who is precisely the deep-lying
Then I wonder who would replace him, it's a shame as he could do a job for United next season

quarterback-style creative midfielder we have been screaming out for is beyond me. Ole is clearly not convinced by Fred, Matic or McTominay.
Perhaps because:
  • he's already 29
  • injuries blighted his career
  • PL is practically the most physically competitive league
  • I'm not sure, at 29, can adjust to the physicality, nor stay fit
  • We won't be able to recoup any of the transfer fee if it goes wrong

By the way: Him AND VDB would certainly mean we are out of the Sancho deal no? We can't possibly spend that much in one window

Only 29 still, got a good few years left in him. Price seems a bit of a bargain.

What's the catch?

He‘d want to be a starter, not sure how we play Pogba, Bruno and Thiago.

Van De Beek would be a squad I guess.

Just won the treble with Bayern.....I just can’t see why he’d want to join United.

Prior to Aston Villa staying up the rumour has been Sancho - Grealish - CB. Sancho was always around 100 mill, Grealish was rumoured to be 40 (now hes 80) and a CB for around 30. Maybe we're forgoing a CB for the time being and still spending as much? (I know that we aren't but let me dream)

He was well able physically in the champions league. He’s a world class midfielder. His injuries however are a concern.

All comes down to how much Sancho costs. If it’s a first instalment or say 80 then don’t see any reason why we couldn’t get DVB and Thiago as sounds like they are 70 million Euros. wouldn’t expect any after that mind. Certainly no Grealish although I suspect the “interest” in DVB is probably just that, if we can’t get Villa to come up with a realistic fee.

Would add Thiago doesn’t really strike me as a signing we would want and more of a cheep alternative. He’s undoubtedly an amazing player but age, injury worries and I’m not convinced he, Pogba and Bruno would work.

Thiago, VDB and Sancho would be incredible.

Agreed. Our midfield and attack would be sorted for many years. And it allows our younger midfielders like Garner to be gradually brought through.

Imagine having these midfield options:
Thiago, Matic, Fred, McTominay, Pogba, VDB, Bruno

And these forward options:
Martial, Rashford, Greenwood, Sancho, Ighalo, James, (Mata?)

Only issue is I feel we still need a centre back.

From what I have seen so far if he doesn't agree to what he currently gets at Bayern his new salary at Liverpool would make him their highest paid player. Salah, Mane and Virgil might have something to say about that. I feel like this might be what's holding up the deal, a contract that won't mess with their wage structure.

If it's Jan who said it I won't believe.
In 2 weeks time he will act like an excited teenage girl when he tweets "Bayern said HE IS NOT FOR SALE" or when Liverpool get him (eventhough everyone and their mothers knew that Pool wanted Thiago). Feck him.

If Thiago came in it would almost certainly mean Fred is leaving. We’d probably make a profit from signing VDB and Thiago whilst selling Fred, Pereira and Lingard. No reason to think it would impact the Sancho deal.

I would be surprised if we aren't interested in Thiago. Whether we actually go for him is a different story.

I'm guessing you don't know where Thiago plays? He'd be the perfect Matic upgrade.

Would be absolutely hilarious if we beat Liverpool to Thiago because of how long they were dithering. We'd have the best midfield in the league with Thiago. I do see him preferring a move to Liverpool if both teams paid the asking price, it's not an easy pill to swallow but their recent success will likely be a big factor. Still, a man can dream.

Reminds me of when it was done he was coming to United, then within the space of a couple of days he signed for Bayern

Been a done deal with Liverpool for so long, but you just never know

He'd literally be the perfect signing for our midfield. So he will 100% sign for Liverpool. Don't do it to yourself, muppets. This has Toni Kroos written all over it.

He’s a playmaker leaving us short of any shielding of the defence imo. Thiago, Pogba and Bruno would be exciting but leave us open in the bigger games.

Who do you think was the DM in the UCL final

Not sure about this. He’s a little older than the players we should be targeting. We need to be focused on a proper defensive midfielder for the long term. This would give us great depth though and he’s obviously a terrific player. The thing that would swing it for me would be the price tag which could be very low.

Bayern just won the UCL with him and Goretzka as their CM paring, I think we'd be fine with Thiago and Pogba
