Gaming The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

I managed to spend an hour with Blood&Wine today, I will be putting this aside until I've completed Uncharted 4 and Quantum Break as I don't want to be sharing time between 3 good games but it's good to learn back the basics of the game as it's been around 8 months since I completed main quest and I hadn't played it afterwards aside from a few odd side quests.

I like it that after 30 minutes I basically know what I'm doing. With a lot of RPGs just mastering the controls takes ages, not to mention learning of the character development, alchemy etc. BTW I've basically neglected alchemy altogether in this game, this is not really my stuff - crafting etc. is also not my element. I prefer combat and narration.

Just came back to that Bruxa bitch after doing HoS and was getting absolutely fecked up by it again until I remembered whoever suggested using block and then absolutely pissed on the fecking thing.

(Also I know how ridiculous 'I remembered I could block' sounds)
Told you, block is now the key. You're going to end up holding it every time you run into a vampire now, which is counter intuitive to all the monster fights leading up to that where holding block tends to get you stunned.

I'm really loving it so far. I just got to a bit that left me grinning ear to ear when I realised who a character was. It wasn't confirmed so far, don't know if it ever will be, but as soon as I realised who it was it just went up several levels in coolness.

I take it it was a nod to book readers?

Nope. They've pulled a few people from the books but the only ones I remember are Regis and Anna Henrietta.

It was:
Orianna. She's the vampire Geralt hunts in the Night to Remember trailer. Took me a while to work out where I knew her from, but it's the same face, hair and voice. Only met her once and there's been no confirmation she's a vampire, just hints.

Anyone got any tips on acquiring the Enhanced Draconid Leather and Hardened Dimetrium Plates that you need for crafting grandmaster Witcher stuff? ... other then the spend a feck-ton on crafting them?

the armor set you get pretty early on
in the cemetary with regis
that regens your health whenever you kill someone makes things pretty easy, even on second highest difficulty. considering the amount of time I spent on getting the master griffin armor from HoS, it's a bit annoying to be able to get armor like that so easily.

I think I'm at the end more or less, with two or three quests to go.

the vampires have just attacked Beauclair

And it definitely feels short. Even on Death March and the amount of times I die for really dumb reasons I can't imagine I've spent more than 10 hours on the main quest (I'd be surprised if it was even that much) so unless these last few quests take another 10 hours each it feels a bit shallow compared to HoS. Still, can't really complain given all the other content thats come with it.

if you're not a purist, I would use the glitch:

that's if you're on PS4. don't know if it works on xbox.

I just got to that part. Definitely feels a bit short, but it's not quite the end I suppose. It's annoyed me though:

Why has it suddenly skipped 3 days? Geralt and Regis going on about spending the time searching for Detlaff and not being able to find him when he clearly said where he was going to be. It feels like there's a bit missing. This is kind of what I would have preferred the main game to do after Kaer Morhen, rail road you down a path to the end to keep up momentum, but it doesn't feel like it's been handled well here. It's a bit jarring.

Yeah thats kinda annoying. Let me know how you got on. I think it took me about 5 hours from there to the end with about 45 minutes of that on the last boss fight

I'm reading spoilers even though I shouldn't and the only complaints I see are pretty shitty and minor compared to other games.

This is clearly the greatest game of this generation, since launch there has been very little negativity, there were some bugs to start with which CD projekt red sorted out asap, people who didn't play RPGs got hooked, Gwent took off massively (maybe this is what they are looking at announcing at e3.. Gwent mini game for phones/ consoles / PC). Everything has seemed just about perfect, voice acting is pretty damn good, storyline is epic, side storylines... Probably just as good if not better, soundtrack is one of the best I've heard, better than most films. Gameplay is just about spot on too, few minor issues but nothing compared to other games, at least the menus and items were dealt with.

This is basically as close to gaming perfection as were going to get for at least the next 5 years IMO.

If a person has never played this game they're clearly not a gaming person.

I think my only complaint with the main story of Blood and Wine is it doesn't live up to HoS which is probably a bit unfair because HoS was almost purely about the quest and was almost flawless.

Aside from that, theres nothing to complain about. The game is so good its ruined gaming for me, its the absolute gold standard and the icing on the cake is CDPRs unbelievable and seemingly genuine appreciation for their fans.

I did the spotted wight quest last night... going into the house and all the spoons and stuff was creepy as feck... like, Crones level of creepy, shame the pay-off didn't quite match the creepiness.

yeah especially cause you can get away without a boss fight.

this has lacked the epic fights that HoS had, for me, I'm taking bosses down too easily. HoS had some seriously difficult boss fights, don't think I've died in this one at all yet.

The first time I fight new enemies they're a bit of a challenge (like those plant things, or those weird yellow glowing panther things) ... but once you work them out they're fine. I do think this expansion is more about the setting and the amount of quests/stuff to do vs. HoS ... and I'm fine with that.

You mean the infused Slyzard hide and the Enriched Dimeritium plates? Unless you have a ton of gold, then dismantling stuff is the way to go. I had enough for the grandmaster Ursine and grandmaster Wolven, but it took me a good while, also had to raid a few Hanse bandit bases and sell all of their weapons.

Tbf I think the game has several issues that I wouldn't really call minor in general like being far too easy even on DM(imo), completely useless loot throughout the whole game and a weak ending (main game only) but I agree that it's easily the best rpg in a long time. My favourite rpg since Bloodlines.
Don't know about greatest GAME of this generation mostly as I don't even play every genre let alone every top game.

Just like the main game, I want to suck every single glorious drop out of this expansion. Not sure the main quest is as good as HOS, but the rest of the content makes fully up for it.

My complaint would be
it looks like the enemy will be so epic and evil at first, then it turns to be some lame girl fight. That and the damn Detlaff fight with his damn OHK move.

I was/still am genuinely torn by the choice in Long Night of Fangs. I tried to follow them both through as far as I could to see if I could get more info or another option would appear, but I appear to have rail roaded myself into one of them. I was leaning towards giving Detlaff whatsherface in exchange for him packing it in, as per Regis' plan, but Geralt wouldn't endanger someone like that and I went to see Orianna to see where it lead me and now I seem to be stuck with that option.

I've wanted to moan about that fight for ages yeah. Its possibly the worst boss fight in the game, its awful. Whats annoying about it is that its a really easy fight, when I actually finished it I did it without taking damage, but then he kills you randomly for no reason with some utter bullshit. That bat attack was utterly broken.

I was just thinking the other day that Gwent has to be given a standalone existence with multiplayer capability. It's a brilliant mini-game.

Thing is it isn't brilliant balanced, once everyone has the best deck it'll be pretty boring. They need to find a better balance which I think will be difficult

I reckon its probably better balanced than people think. Think people will play the two least popular decks better than the AI does (I actually think that the Skellige deck is absolutely excellent but requires a play style totally different to Northern Realms and Nilfgard and people are struggling to get to grips with it or not bothering) but yeah, they'll actually bother to make it balanced if its real people playing each other.

Did you save beforehand? That choice is the one that influences which end you can get.

I only just realised something that Milton de Peyrac-Peyran says something early on which ties into the end plot. The thing that he and de la Croix had the bad memories over was
what they did to Syanna

It gave me another chance to change my mind after that.....I didn't. Then proceeded to get the bad ending, which was still quite poignant and watching things spiral out of control was a pretty satisfying conclusion.

I've still got a save in Long Night of Fangs. I might go back and get the good ending or wait until I've done the main game on NG+ and do the whole thing all over again. Trying to force myself to play a game from my backlog now, but I really just want more Witcher.

Question to those saving before important parts which alter the ending.

Why do you do it? If you make the choice you do the ending is obviously designed for you. Why would you ever want the other ending. The ending is basically made for you, yet you will do it again to get an ending not meant for you.

To see what you missed out on? Curiosity you know, Parmo. Although I stuck with the ending I got, thought it was pretty great even if it's considered the "bad" ending.

Like DatIrishFella says, just see what you miss out on. Plus, I've seen so many people who end up with the bad ending, so I just assume everyone who isn't me ends up with the bad ending and I just wish to warn them in advance in case they're not pleased. The base game ending would seriously have left me pretty distraught if I ended up with the bad one.

Anyone had issues with the sound in cutscenes before? I was playing earlier and suddenly, all I could hear during them was the weather sound effects and the voice of Geralt and one other character. All settings are on 100, and outside of them the noise is normal. I'm playing on PS4 so have no idea what could case this. Odd.

Anyone got any tips for the final boss? I can get passed the first stage easily but the second is causing me some problems. That bat attack is ridiculously powerful and I can't seem to dodge it.

Spent a lot of time and a lot of money getting the grandmaster feline gear, and it's not really great? The bonuses are pretty good but that set you get in the cemetery with Regis that has the regen bonus for killing blows seemed way better, and the higher level Touissant diagrams seem better too. Maybe I shouldn't have gone for light armor as it's made my Geralt a bit finnicky.

This game is absolutely incredible.
Firstly, I don't remember the last game I started the second play through of immediately after the first.
And secondly, the second play through has been almost as much fun. I'm actually doing everything. Watching the cutscenes, not skipping the speech.

What a game.

I've got to play the previous versions if just to know what happens. I know this is easily the best of the series.

Quen.

I was an alchemy/signs build so I had one particular alchemically stat that allowed me to recover health from any potion. Also the Ehkinada decoction, when you use a sign you regain health.

Seems a lot of people struggled on him. I proudly did it on DM without dying once! :D

I try quen but it seems to break through quen and do massive damage in one swoop.

I didn't really do a lot of alchemy to be honest, I have the katikan decoction but that's pretty much it.
