Gaming The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

I really don't think they should. They've ended Geralt's saga, and creating a blank-state build your own Witcher wouldn't cut it, nor would playing as Ciri, or something. Quit whilst you're at the top and all that

Agreed. CDPR can now focus their efforts on new projects which to me is even more exciting than the thought of a future Witcher game. Who doesn't want to see what they can do in other genres like with their game Cyberpunk. That game is going to be hyped to the high heavens and knowing CDPR there's a good chance it will live up to it.

I'm really interested to see how they work it. Personally speaking, buzzwords like 'futuristic' or 'post-modern' tends to put me off - the timeframe of the Witcher is about as ideal for an RPG as it gets for me. Swords and shields over guns too. But hey, if anyone can pull it off, it really must be CDPR. I wouldn't be surprised if this game gets delayed once or twice like The Witcher 3 did; they really do try to pour everything they can into a game.

Witcher 3 with DLCs is a 120-hour game, even 150 if you do all side quests. You can also easily play it two or three times. There's enough Witcher to go around.

I'm on 170 hours and have barely even touched Blood and Wine yet. But that's not enough for me, I'm also currently in the 6th book (of 7 in total). When I've finished all 7 books I'm planning replay all 3 games in a row. :D That'll keep me occupied for some ti;e. Have to wait another fecking year for the official translation of the final book though.

I don't have to wait for translation. :D

Are the books worth it? I do enjoy the lore so much that I've considered reading them...

@DWelbz19 can you tell me if the guests you can supposedly have visit Corvo Bianco is something that happens eventually, if at all, or do you have to find it yourself ie a side quest?

A bit late to the party but I got this last week as I had time off work and was bored.

Slow start, quite a lot of odd things to get used to as I hadn't played any of the previous ones. It's not quite as accessible as elderscrolls but ultimately I'm thinking better.

Totally immersed in it now, it's top class. Totally completed White Orhard there (for now) and moved into Velen.

Top class!

I'm jealous, nothing like experiencing the witcher 3 playthrough for the first time.

If you enjoy The Witcher lore or fantasy literature in general I can wholeheartedly recommend them. You learn everything there is to know about the characters and political events that drive the narrative of the games. And without the books you'll never fully appreciate what's going on between Yennefer and Geralt or his bond with Ciri. I've only started reading after completing The Witcher 3 so I haven't played any of the games with knowledge of the books, but I'm expecting it to be a much, much richer experience.

I like the writing style as well. It's hard to judge how much remains of the original style since it's a translation, but it's fun and witty in places.

Happens at the end of the game, just keep playing mate. :D

The first two novellas are a collection of really fun short stories - they read like a collection of interesting side quests. Stuff like how Geralt first meets Yennefer, Ciri etc. and then others with the same sort of moral greyness, and philosophical rambles about themes such as the 'lesser evil' that the main game offers. Honestly, CDPR translated it into video game really well.

The rest of the books deal entirely with the plot novel which is similar to Witcher 3: all the powerful forces want Ciri for her powers and Geralt and his crew have to find and protect her. It's again interwoven with a lot of philosophical rambles, odd humour, and a lot of political intrigue. They're worth the read, if not simply for extending the lore and fleshing out character profiles, but I prefer Sapkowski's style a lot more for the short story novellas than a grand plot like this.

God I envy you. You're about to venture on the best vidya game experience ever. No hyperbole. And then you have tge two DLCs. I'd say you'll love the Skellige Isles. :D

Thanking you!

Witcher MMORPG to topple WoW... Would be insane.

Agreed. However I don't think The Witcher 4 is out of the realms of possibility. There's plenty of game series' that were said to be concluded only for another one to be announced a few years later.

Yeah definitely, but with Cyberpunk 2077 now top of the list, I wouldn't expect anything Witcher related for the next 2-3 years. At least.

this just arrived at my front door

I'm on that as well. Was at the beginning of Velen but will make a new save and go for Death March from the start, I think I'll enjoy the game more that way.

I either lost track of time or went through B&W too directly. Seemed rather short...
I noticed it too. The pacing is a bit awkward. Some of the sidequests seem more lengthy than some of the mains.

Just came back to that Bruxa bitch after doing HoS and was getting absolutely fecked up by it again until I remembered whoever suggested using block and then absolutely pissed on the fecking thing.

(Also I know how ridiculous 'I remembered I could block' sounds)

Well holy shit at that stretch of main quests to end the expansion! Took me about three/four hours or so! Fecking fantastic. Happy with how mine ended, kinda Game of Thrones esque which I liked.

Fable Land was fecking hilarious. Everything was just brilliant. I found some badass armour + sword in there also. Accidentally squished poor Thumbalina when I was exploring her mini village. I actually felt terrible.

Also feck you Detlaff, Geralt shagged your beloved whilst floating upside down. Actually feck your missus, crazy bitch murdered her sister using a hair brooch (although I did admire the ingenuity). Actually no, I liked Detlaff, poor dude was just a cuckhold. ACTUALLY FECK! I shoulda' let the Flint girl keep the ribbon, so Syryanna would got hers.

For those wondering, main storyline is about 7 hours long, but it does have diverging paths for replayability.

Nah it's longer than that. Like I said the pacing is off so you don't really realise how long it actually is.

Sounds like you got the bad ending. I got the 'good', I did the exact same as you but talked to Syanna and sort of convinced her to forgive, so they both live happily together. Ideally I'd have wanted her dead. Being shunned and wronged by people doesn't justify killing them. Geralt goes through that daily. Heck so does Regis probably.

And for a Duchess Anarietta handed the situation badly. I found myself disliking her more and more as the game went on. Maybe it was just when she ripped her dress off to show a nice rear at the start I was only interested. :D

It's also a bit sad that Regis has to leave Toussaint and be away from his people. I was willing to forgive Detlaff until he attacked the city. That was a bit disappointing IMO, it was like CDPR sort of forced his villainy onto you.

There is the third ending, as you can guess - where you don't take Syanna's ribbon and she dies, and you choose between killing Detlaff or letting him go.

I really loved the Fabled Tales too. That and The Smitten Knight were the best quests I think.

I spoke to her to, but instead of choosing the obvious reply to her reasoning, as she explained in the Fabled Lands thus making me sympathize, I told her she wanted Anna Henrietta dead because she envied her. Maybe if I chose the "because you felt like she abandoned you" option she would have lived?

As for the Smitten Knight, Guilleme ended up an alcoholic whilst a cured Vivienne travels the world. His hair made me dislike him. Plus his whole "I'm nice to her so she should let me shag her" attitude.

I like to spoiler things too

Work is now just a frustrating time when I'm not playing Witcher.

 Same for me.
You can actually kill him during the quest. Alternatively if you pass the curse to him, during the process he asks Vivenne if they'll be together, she says something along the lines of, 'I'll think about it'. :D

the black blood potion made the fight too easy for me.

also you can OHKO her if you use aard and use the button finish her off but you have a short time to do so before she gets up again.

Is that on Death March?

Honestly the only reason I struggled with her, I think, is that I came in out of practice, on Death March, with armour that was sub par (enhanced rather than master crafted cat), even then, if I'd have blocked rather than dodging and rolling I would have killed her I think.

There's another guarding some treasure who is lvl 42 I think and took her down literally by holding L2 until it did that screech attack then and then holding L2 again.

yup. alchemy build is OP in any difficulty.

Yeah, I'm building up my alchemy stats now after going for a quick attack build. The only thing thats put my off alchemy is it seems like you'd spend a shit load of time running around making the recipes rather than actually fighting stuff.

you shouldn't have to do too much work as alchemy build is most effective endgame and you should have good amount of ingredients, herbs to start with.

and even then, having over 10k health, constant health regeneration with swallow potion and one of the alchemy skills I forgot the name of, 9 bombs, etc... it's so worth going through the initial hassle.

the best thing is ONE alcohest refills ALL of your potions so you don't have to be so reserved in using them, especially with high tolerance to toxicity that comes with alchemy builds.

I'm thinking of doing an alchemy build next time around. Should be fun throwing bombs constantly.

I'm also going to re-do B&W and spend far more time on the side quests.

Ekhidna and Ekimmara decoctions make the game a breeze, even on Death March. Hitting enemies and using stamina regains your health.
