Gaming The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

I'd the same problem, I waltzed right through it up until that point. For me it was best to run to the far end of the room and lure him to you one at a time. They only activate one at a time unless you attack them anyway. Then use quen, yrden and whirl to take them out.
I finally just cheesed it with the Emmikern(sp) decoction that restores vitality when you deal damage. I had avoided using it up to that point but my patience was wearing thin.

For some reason I didn't have any problems with that fight, I only had to deal with one opponent at a time, without even knowing any other way. Guess I was just lucky then? I had more trouble with the frog prince.

I was rolling/parrying too much. I took several months off and was rusty even though this wasn't on the highest difficulty (I've played only on the 2nd hardest option). Once I started using dodge and approached it methodically it was actually rather straightforward.

Damn that was awesome. Looks like he's fighting more than one vampire. In the books he was afraid to fight Regis the vampire because he didn't think he could win in such a fight and I think it was a Bruxa beat the holy hell out of him before he killed her. Hopefully they can make these vampire fights suitably epic.

Yeah, it looks like the plot is Geralt assisted by Regis, and whatever Anna Henrietta has at her disposal on one side against this protagonist who looks like one beast of a higher vampire with a horde of his friends. And that's only the overarching plot. Bound to be a feck load of big fights down the line.

Allegedly your 'friends', i.e, Ciri, Yen, Dandelion etc. can come to visit the house you are able to create for yourself in this expansion but I don't really see any of them being directly involved in the plot itself.

I read that about the friends visiting, but the Regis thing is news to me. That's the first mention of him I've read.

Apparently the new mutagen system carries of to NG+ right from the start, you won't have to unlock it again.

This fella has all been but confirmed to be Regis;

He's also seen fighting within the trailers against the other vampire, which makes it very clear it's him.

OMG book wankers stop!

Anywho, just bought the DLC for essentially €15 on GoG. Feels like I should be paying a lot more for a 30+ hour expansion.

Actually that makes sense given his attire. I wasn't expecting to see him at all and his fate to forever be a mystery. I'm both happy and disappointed. Geralt admits he can't fight a higher vampire on Regis' level in the books and expect to live so this could be very interesting.

I went back to HOS last night and beat him on my first attempt. The key is to stay at the back of the hall and kill them off one by one, then on the final one you can move about the place. What an expansion it is though, was playing Fallout's new expansion too last night(Far Harbor) and it just doesn't compare to anything The Witcher 3 offers. They've put Bethesda to absolute shame IMO.

They've put the majority of developers to shame. Hearts of Stone is better than most full games. It actually had a better antagonist than The Witcher 3 in Gaunter O'Dimm too. The problem is I'm probably never going to feel right paying for DLC again when comparing it to HoS and that's before B&W is even factored in. All that for £20.

What's a good way to make money? I'm leveled up above all the side quests, and this new runewright is bleeding me dry.

Big patch with lots of improvements...

- Improvements -

  • Adds book titled 'A Miraculous Guide to Gwent' which displays number of gwent cards missing from player's base-game collection and information on where to find them, thus facilitating completion of achievement titled Collect 'Em All. Tome in question can be obtained either from gwent playing scholar in Prologue or from merchant near St. Gregory's Bridge in Gildorf district of Novigrad.

  • Adds option to display herb names above available interactions.

  • Adds option in Options/Gameplay to enable enemy level upscaling. If foes are too easy to defeat due to level difference, upscaling will render them a challenge. Change will not affect experience point gain, loot, or quest rewards. Option can be enabled or disabled at any time, even during combat (however, Vitality/Essence of foes is then fully restored).

  • Adds option in Options/Gameplay to disable automatic drawing and sheathing of sword.

  • Increases incidence of, and thus chances of finding, several monster-based ingredients required for crafting high level alchemy formulae.

  • Improves Player Statistics panel, adding maneuverable Geralt model. Improves visuals in panel for better readability.

  • Adds new functionality to books and scrolls. When first collected, they can be read immediately using single button without need of navigating to Inventory panel. All found but not yet read books and scrolls are stored in Quest Items and Other categories. Once read, books and scrolls can be sold as their content is saved in Books section of Glossary.

  • Improves overall visuals in Character Development panel.

  • Improves Inventory whereby items are divided into additional subcategories within their grids: weapons and armor; oils, potions and bombs; quest items and others; food and equestrian gear; crafting and alchemy. Additionally, introduces redesign of tooltips enabling their resizing with single button. Also, item comparison is easier than ever given addition of summary of changes in stats.

  • Improves Inventory navigation when using gamepad. Slots are divided into sections and right stick can be used to jump between them.

  • Improves Crafting panel in merchant shops. Adds option to purchase missing diagram components directly from Crafting panel when talking to merchant, as well as clearer descriptions and option to resize item descriptions.

  • Introduces redesign of Repair panel in merchant shops. Adds single button enabling players to repair all equipped items.

  • Improves Remove Upgrade panel in merchant shops.

  • Improves Quick Access Menu whereby it can be accessed in one of two modes, with action either paused or slowed depending on button used.

  • Adds functionality whereby crossbow bolts can be switched via Quick Access Menu rather than being equipped from Inventory.

  • Adds counter for bombs and crossbow bolts to Quick Access Menu.

  • Improves region maps by adding pin filtering, more intuitive quest tracking, and a region overview for faster navigation.

  • Adds three new custom pins allowing players to mark areas for future reference.

  • Improves Adrenaline Bar which better displays number of stored Adrenaline Points and their status.

  • Improves display and behavior of Buffs, displayed in more intuitive manner showing time left, strength percentage, stacks, charges, or permanence where applicable. Buff icons now blink for approx. 10 seconds before expiration. For improved visibility, names and exact expiration times for all effects are only visible when Quick Access menu is active.

  • Changes icons for decoctions, rendering them recognizable at first glance.

  • Changes icons for oils, rendering them recognizable at first glance.

  • Changes gwent card icons in shops, rendering factions recognizable at first glance.

  • Changes icons for mutagens.

  • Adds feature whereby equipment exceeding player character level can be previewed on character.

  • Improves sorting in Journal whereby active quest tab is always open and tracked quest is at top of quest list.

  • Improves quest item visuals so that Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine quest items are now tagged with blue and red exclamation points, respectively.
-Gwent-

  • Quest titled Collect 'Em All is now marked as failed if player does not succeed in collecting Milva, Vampire Bruxa and Dandelion gwent cards during gwent tournament in quest titled A Matter of Life and Death.

Pretty great this is coming out while I'm still early in my second playthrough. For all the game's good points, the inventory can be a pain to navigate.

There used to be tricks but they've patched those out of the game. I'm on my second playthrough and I still haven't figured out a decent way to make money. They should have sorted the low ball prices at which you have sell your items.

I'm in the exact same situation. Made the 10k to upgrade the second time then the prick demanded another 16k! I just got it but I also need to get the new swords and armour made to see what they are like and then buy the actual upgrades from him. Then I need some spending money for B&W. So it's kind of fitting, Geralt is wandering the country trying to get the money together to go retire in Touissant.

Best way I found was doing guarded treasure, treasure hunt and fallen knights quests then selling the swords and armour you get from them in Novigrad or Kaer Trolde. I just made 5k in Kaer Trolde selling swords, armour and all the lesser runestones/glyphs I just had laying around. The two armourers right beside each other in Kaer Trolde have around 6k in gold between them and pay decent prices for weapons/armour. Doesn't matter about quest level either, if you pick up bandits weapons it's worth the same amount. It just depends on the merchant you go to.

Don't forget to sell jewellery and go to the banker in Novigrad to get all your currency exchanged.

So I'm playing this first time, and I've just reached Velen. The main quest levels are higher than what I currently am, so what is the best way to level up in preparation? The map is so big I've not got a clue where to start. I've done all the undiscovered locations in White Orchard. Any help would be much appreciated!

Just explore the Question mark areas in which you would run across some monster nests, drowners etc. If you find them to be higher level just run away I suppose.

Also doing secondary quests in nearby towns etc will help as well.

You don't really level up much at all outside of main quests, but when you do the main quests you level up massively. Unless you're really struggling with the missions, don't be put off by the recommended level caps - you'll catch up soon enough by doing the plot.

Huh? Don't think I can agree with that. You don't level up a lot killing monsters but doing side quests and contracts usually gives you a very good amount of experience and it didn't take me very long doing them to get way ahead of the recommended level caps for the main quests.

Yeah I probably should've included the contracts in that, but I don't remember side quests doing much. It's been a while since I've played the base game though.

Only way I found to make money was downloading a mod that gives fairer prices for gear. Kinda cheating I suppose but you get feck all in the vanilla game for selling shit. No way I could've got that Runewright up to his max level without out.

I think they patched it. I made another 4k this afternoon playing for about an hour. I just went around the south of Velen clearing out treasure hunts, hidden treasure and bandit camps. Selling all the shit I got to Hattori and the other blacksmiths in Novigrad made me a fortune. It does make sense in that you're going to get less selling stuff out in the sticks where merchants don't have much to pay you. Go to the cities and a club or axe you were getting 20-50g for from rednecks will get you between 80-120g. All those unique swords you get in the chests get you anything up to 1000g from my experience. I sold about 5 or 6 named swords and that alone got me 2k. I only stopped because Hattori ran out of gold, I've still got a bunch of armour and bandit gear to sell.

If you're killing a bunch of bandits and lifting all their weapons, selling them in Novigrad can get you around 500g for the lot. It's not that hard to do now.

B&W is up for download and playable on XB1 already, me and a couple of guys on my friends list have been playing it most of the afternoon. It's pretty damn good so far. New gwent deck is a bit of a bollocks to play against.

In the 1.2 patch?

In the 1.2 patch?
No, that only came out today and I've been making tons of money for weeks. I spent 30k upgrading the enchanter guy and getting the viper gear, still went into B&W with around 2k to spare. I'd started off broke. It's really not hard to make money unless you've cleared out every question mark in the game. In that cause you had to go for respawning bandits and sell their weapons in the city. Selling monster parts and all the spare glyphs can make you money too.

B&W is awesome so far. It's opened up now and I've a ton of quests. It feels like landing in Novigrad for the first time again. I've had what for me was the best boss fight in the game already too. Only problem is it's so bright it's starting to hurt my eyes and the new gwent music is really annoying.

Ah, that overwhelming feeling when you have a ton of new quests in your journal. How I missed it.

Also, Barnabas Basil-Foulty, gives the great bounty hunter Djenge Frett and run for his money for most fantastic name.

They've gone mental with easter eggs and book references. Every few minutes I'm running into another one. First time since the original game came out I've sat up to 5am playing.

I'm trying to work out what is the earliest acceptable time I can leave work so I can go play this...

I'm working at home and fighting with my conscience over whether I should just play it anyway. 5 minutes couldn't hurt right. Or maybe 5 more. Or half an hour... Who am I kidding? If I fire this up that's it in terms of productivity for the day.

I'm getting a Season Pass for this, slight difference between Blood and Wine alone and package. I'm so delighted with the fact that I'll be getting back to Witcher 3

I've just reached Toussaint. It looks beautiful.
