Gaming The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Well I've not actually done that much fighting yet and already died twice, so it's probably more my poor technique at the moment.

I set it on the difficulty down from that. Can I change it now or is it too late?
you can always change difficulty, unless you care about getting achievements in which you'll have to start over.

you can't just keep hacking and slashing, which is what I did at first as well. as the poster above said you have to use all the tools at your disposal including correctly timed parry/evasion and potions, decoctions depending on which enemy you're facing. though I haven't played this game in a while so it'll be like playing as a new player again when I get back to this game for the upcoming expansion pack, especially with all the new enemies they're going to introduce...

On easy and normal you can hack and slash, if you use Quen all the time. On higher difficulties it's not possible, yeah.

even so, enemies like wraiths are incredibly annoying to deal with if you just decide to spam the attack button.

even so, enemies like wraiths are incredibly annoying to deal with if you don't use yrden, because they're so fast.
They don't do that much damage though. I sometimes don't bother with Yrden if they're quite a bit lower level than me because then I can kill them quickly.

Ok, I'm liking the fighting now. It does take a nice amount of skill which makes it satisfying.

Also guys, don't wanna show off and act like I'm better than all you veterans but I just killed a bear sooooo I'm clearly a badass

And the forests in this game.....so good. They look stunning but it's genuinely off putting when it's so dense you can't see what's around you.

I just went to fight a huge spider and now don't feel so badass any more.

Without a doubt some of the best forests I've ever seen in a video game. Too often forests are presented as mere clusters of trees, but here they are often dark and dense. The canopy is so thick in places that no sunlight reaches the ground level. It feels like an actual forest.

When it's windy and you go into the dark forest it's creeptastic.

Like someone else mentioned, the use of colour is refreshing and also adds to the strangeness when you go from bloody overcast battlefields to a nice vibrant city.

Have you tried that in surround sound? It's mental with the trees creaking all around you and the occasional sound of a monster, bear or wolves running around somewhere you can't quite see.

I've not. I might get a soundbar soonish, but it's probably still not as good as proper surround sound. I might just plug my studio monitors in and fill my room with the creep.

Is there enough DLC to come back to the game yet? Have not touched it since my first playthrough

The Hearts of Stone DLC is really good and adds a reasonable amount of content. But if you want more, you can wait a bit, the new DLC is rumoured to be out in June and that will be, by all accounts, massive.

I've been using surround sound headphones and TW3 alone makes me glad I forked out for them. The sound design is fantastic. I think maybe only Halo 5 sounds better.

nice. looking forward to it. thanks

Question regarding the 2 expansions, will they affect anything in the game before the standalone end (eredin) or are they just an extension at the end of the main game?

I think they're both just extensions to the main game. You can leave Hearts of Stone until after you've completed the main story if you want to so I guess the new DLC will be the same.

I need to get back on this game again.

Yeah I'm just restarting it, was going to leave it till the 2nd DLC came out but if they're extensions to the main game I reckon I can complete it and then get the dlcs

You need to be a pretty high level to do HoS. 40+ if I remember right. Other than that you can play it any time, but probably best played after the main game. Hearts of Stone alone is as big as many full games. It's a full stand alone story that took me 20+ hours to finish and I don't think I even did everything in it. It does add some things to the world, like a group of people with a shop, a very specific merchant and some new gwent cards.

Even though it doesn't really affect the main game, there is one slight little twist at the end if beaten before end of act 1. Obviously, if you don't want spoilers, don't bother reading ahead.

When you beat the expansion and pick sides with mirror man you can request him to tell you where Ciri is. He will refuse but give you clues on what choices to make to get the best ending.

The music of this game is just wonderful. Possibly the best ever in this regard?

Blood and Wine expansion with Gwent Cards are already pre-ordered. Kind of happy that the trailer is announcing it to be released in 3 weeks and not a month or so down the line.

Can't fecking wait. Properly buzzing. Maybe get a title change- Blood and Wine: May 31st?

It's basically going to be a new game, right? New world, 30+ hours etc.

There's a new Skellige Gwent deck!

The vistas are amazing. There's a fight in a village with what looks like a giant or cyclops, the mountains and city in the background look unreal. It's like a Soul Calibur game or something.

Yeah, it was a real great touch to have their last saga on Geralt's tale be so idyllic. I envy anyone who plays on PC because with those graphics it'll look amazing.

I forgot how difficult this game can be when first starting out, still level 1, not even done the Griffin yet but been battered by drowners already

I'm thinking of starting again as well. What difficulty are you playing? I'm considering the highest one.
