Gaming The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Do you reckon that's worth buying at full price? seeing as it's Friday I'm thinking of treating myself to a new game after work. I love the horror genre.

It's getting good reviews and if you liked American class B horrors and don't mind QTE experience then it'll be good for you. I have not even played it yet since I got it yesterday but bought it based on footage and reviews, I know I am going to love it because it hits home in terms of what it is for me and is exactly the sort of game I want now after long and complex Witcher 3. Then I will move on to MGS and Batman. Stockpiling games now is fine because there will inevitably be next to nothing after the turn of year. :) I'm finding it tough to find time to play these days but I still get these 10-12 hours a week easily.

Cheers man. Yeah I'd say it would be a good game to follow up The Witcher alright. The last horror game I truly enjoyed was Outlast. I suppose that has a bit of QTE from what I remember. Didn't bother with The Evil Within.

Yeah Evil Within is supposed to be quite crap. I will still pick it up from the bargain bin along with The Order pretty soon. Until Dawn seems good anyway, it's around 10 hours and good for a couple of playthroughs

BTW how close to the finish I am when I have just gone to the Isle of Mists?

I've been putting off going there for so long that it's not even funny, by doing side quests and contracts. I presume we're nearing the end though.

I had most of the side quests completed and apparently the ones I didn't would not be impacted by the decision to go there, save for one or two I did not intend to complete soon anyway.

It's still hours. And even though the quest is the point of no return, you can still go on a merry sidequestathlon afterwards.

Edit: Also, I went to the Isle of Mists at level 26 (four levels above the suggested level) and got out of it as a level 29. It gives crazy XP for some reason.

I think I went up about 5 levels in the battle for kaer mohren

I feel like I've finally broke through on this. Absolutely loving it.

I'm up to Bloody Baron atm but think I'm going to do a few contracts and side quests before starting that mission.

Ok, stupid question time of the day.

So, how do you actually throw a snowball at Ciri on PC? They show up in the 'crossbow' slot but pressing Y (the default key for that, couldn'be bothered to remap to something more comfortable) does nothing. Holding Y down does nothing. Nothing does anything, basically. I lost the snowball fight and moved on but I'm curious to know... watched some youtube videos but none actually showed HOW to do it.

It's a little while since I've played but is the default crossbow button r1 or rb on xbox I think ? So it should just be the same button, maybe a bug if it wasn't working for you.

Haven't played this in ages. Played like 80 hours of it maybe and I still haven't been to Skellige.

I was at
Looking for Dandelion. Spoke to like 10 of his girlfriends and went to a bathhouse

Need to go back to it one day

Think this is a game you need to fully devote yourself to, if you switch over to something else i think youll fall out of the immersion and find it hard to jump straight back in after 100+ hours.

Sad to see about the performance hits, seems like the release client was the most stable for once.

I think I've put about 60 hours into this in the last week. Just finished the Dandelion arc. Going to clear all the contracts and secondary quests I'm now over levelled for then I think I'll head to Skellige.

I would say my GOTY so far, but I want to finish it ASAP so I can play MGS 5.

I'm trying to get some master crafted armour, do I need all the others in the set first to get it? I'm level 38.

Yes.You need to keep doing the scavenger quests to upgrade your armour or weapon.

Yeah, just decide whatever one you're going for (Bear/Cat/Griffin/Whatever) then do the quests for those in the Treasure Hunts section, should take more then an hour of your time.

Still got plenty left yet unfortunately  especially if you do all the monster and armour missions too

I know. I'm not rushing it either so probably won't get round to MGS until next year.

What are the armour missions? Upgrading armour and weapons is the only aspect I'm not 100% on, but I seem to be getting by.

Any tips to get the 1000 gold for the ships captain? I currently have 800 and could easily sell to get 1000 but don't really want to waste all my money.

Just smashed Carinthir  Took me a couple goes, seemed a bit difficult at first, easy dicked him in the end.

Rock trolls are too much fun, I could listen to their stupid talking for hours:lol:

I personally didn't bother with the witcher gear until the end, you can get by with stuff you earn through missions plenty fine I think. It's worth doing the weapon missions though as you get some xp and some fun monsters etc.

You can sell plenty of stuff in the other category, but I wouldn't rush off to skellige, i finished all of novigrad pretty much before I left.

My two favourite things in this game are trolls talking and
drunk at kaer morhen

So, after probably 100+ hours (well it felt like it anyway) of gameplay, I finally finished this last night...

The end mission was pretty good, but after everything that came before it, something a little bit longer (perhaps the length of the midpoint bit of Isle of Mists and Battle of Kaer) wouldn't have gone amiss, but thats a minor complaint really. Ended up with Triss, and Ciri became a Witcher... so a lovely ending overall!

I probably should have heeded the advice of practically everyone and started the game on a much higher difficultly level then just the normal mode, as after I got past around level 20 I was never in danger of dying... I think I had one challenging fight against Feind and that was it (did away with the end bosses with very little trouble...).

Still, this will definitely go down as one of the best games I've ever played, and one of my favourite games of all time. Loved absolutely every minute of that, could easily have played on for countless hours more (and will do when they release these DLC's).

It's quite amazing that despite how weak the final arc became past Kaer Morhen battle; where a lot was rushed, the antagonists were surprisingly hollow in such a three dimensional game, a few contrivances arose, etc... That the game still remained GOTY, and one of the best I've ever played. Fantastic work by CDPR.

Eredin is piss easy, don't think I got hit once.
I kept trying to be clever so that I could roll behind him (and stab him) immediately when he teleports behind me but the controls disagreed with me every time.

Still, Quen abuse FTW so he didn't really have a chance to actually put a dent in my health. He wasn't a very well fleshed out antagonist for me but I haven't played the first two games or read the books so I'm not complaining, I'll be back once I complete Witcher 2 (which I've started now).

Eredin was easy. Caranthir required a bit of a rhythm - use his own rock trolls to block his ice shots, but was still manageable. Imlerith was the only one I struggled with. His last part is fecking hell. I actually managed to trap him in with a whirl and just kill him before the transition in his last attack.

Overall though, even in death march none were too difficult. Never any chuck your control pad at the wall-Bloodborne style.

Imlerith's only hard because he basically breaks the game. When his attack type changes the camera can't keep up with how quickly he moves around but even then its only a question of spamming the roll button.

That's true. I guess that's another thing the game could have added in, making the boss battles less broken and more challenging through making each contain unique elements. Thank feck the game has no QTE in it though

They all break the game with the teleporting, camera is awful during it.

Eredin is impossible for me at the moment, the camera angle constantly fecks you over, the controls don't even seem to be working properly for me, dodge/roll always throws me into his fecking path. I actually think I am not going to bother completing it because of it. I'll come back to it someday when I'm less pissed with the ridiculous camera shit.

Think I got past Eredin on the first try (on the 2nd hardest difficulty). Was rather disappointed, actually.

Imlerith was the only one that gave me any trouble.

I emplore you to take your time, finish the witcher before you move on to mgs5, it will be there for you :)

Can't you lock onto him by pressing r3?

I managed to beat him first time without too much trouble. I was on the second hardest difficulty so I know it is probably a different story if you are playing on hardest, but I imagine a similar strategy will get the job done. The main thing I could suggest is using igni whenever you can fit it in as it 'melts' him so that his defence is hugely lowered and he takes normal damage from attacks. On top of that just keep your quen up at all times and be ready to roll away as soon as he teleports, there is enough time between him teleporting and getting his attack in to roll out in the correct direction, possibly you are rolling out too early? You will basically never get hit if you follow that strategy, just roll in for a few attacks when he has been igni'd and the chance arises, don't get greedy with it.

By far the hardest battles on this game were any early level werewolves or vampires in my opinion. One of the main flaws in the game is that the difficulty actually ramped down massively from being difficult in the early stages and easy towards the end, whereas ideally the difficulty should ramp up as you become more accustomed to the game and get better at it. Stick with it, you're close to the end now so it would be a shame to miss out on it due to having a bad time initially with a winnable boss fight.

I'm clearly shit at this game, can't beat him. I think I lose interest half way through due to it taking so long, and the horrid fecking camera still, it just does what it wants and rolls where it wants.

Getting closer, but it seems to just dick me over randomly, like there, got caught in a corner, wouldn't let me run and he stood miles away and pummeled me with magic. It's fecking stupid.

I think I've always hated boss battles, it's like a 10-20minute rinse and repeat process which is actually really fecking boring.

I can't understand how people found him easy, I've breezed through everything else in this game pretty much but now I'm buggered. fecking teleporting.

This is actually ruining the game for me now.
