Gaming The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

I've still not completed this, as I keep on taking lengthy breaks, even though it's probably one of the best I've ever played. I think it could be the sheer size of the game that's wearing me out.

Getting to the brutal end of this now...

Vesimir just got nailed, Ciri has a set of lungs on her, feck knows where I go from here.

Also, it that big battle just beforehand, I'd closed the 2nd portals and was poisoned and died... it restarted me from closing the portals and being poisoned about to die, took me a few goes to survive  had to nail food and potions instantly.

This game is sometimes a bit random, first time facing Imelrith it regenned potions auto before it, second time it never. Weird.

New patch 1 08 as been launched. Finally finished the Collect them all Gwent quest.

Just got drunk at Kaer Morahn... great stuff.

I've got like one witcher contract and two secondary quests available... I imagine a lot more of both will populate when I return to Novigrad/Skellige.

I had this drinking scene just yesterday, amazing

Unfortunately not. There's only 'x' [I think in the 20's, last one is at level 35(?)] amount of Witcher contracts, and dependent on your level of thoroughness whilst roaming, you probably should have covered a large bulk of the bigger side quests. It's unlike Skyrim where side quests are just repopulated, but I guess it comes with the caveat that almost all the quests away from the main plot are so nuanced and really well done.

Ah right - to be fair, I prefer this approach to the Skyrim approach... will probably mean I replay this a lot sooner too.

Yen is the hotter computer sprite... but Triss is the better, more fuller character (As she's been in all the Witcher games, though apparently if you read the book you'd go for Yen).

I actually felt kinda bad when I picked Triss over Yen... 'cos of all that soulmate/destiny bollocks.

I cringed badly when I turned down Triss.. It was probably the most awkward a game has ever made me feel.

In my head the VA for Triss is the yank hippie chick from Peep Show. To me they sound exactly the same. Could it be the same actor?

EDIT: Nope it's not the same one.

I went to a bank the other day and there were these mock footprints on the floor, supposedly leading to some kind of promotional offer or stuff like that.

My first thought was after seeing the footprints that 'hmmm, I guess I should use my witcher senses'.

Instantly became one of my most treasured scenes in a video game.

I'm a bit shit at this. Moved into the second area (after you slay the griffin and go to that castle) I'm getting my ass handed to me. Did I move too quick? I think I did all the question marks in White Orchard though.

Think I'm missing something obvious. I don't make much use of potions, haven't done any crafting etc.

What level of quest are you attempting?

Make sure it appears green in your menu and don't attempt the red ones. You do get quite a few early quests you're not ready for.

My initial thought is is that you are doing fine. Personally, I couldn't be bothered to finish White Orchard and went back later to finish it.

When you first move to Velen, the difficulty does spike a bit and you really aren't supposed to do too much exploration to begin with. Just focus on the main quest for a bit and only divert to do side quests when you have got a bit of level behind you.

If you are playing on one of the lower difficulties, don't worry too much about potions and crafting to begin with. It's not until later in the game that they become totally relevant.

Ah ok. I'll progress the main quest a bit first. I was intrigued by a bandit camp but had to run out of there pretty damn sharpish when they were all level 10+.

Yeah you will find that a lot to start with. I got caught out exploring a bit in the woods down south. I saw a weird antler thing on legs walking around, we had a bit of a staring competition before it created this earth mound spike that almost got me. I went to attack it, then I realised it was level 28 and absolutely legged it the other way. Later I found out that it was a leshen and searched it out when I was at the right level.

Just do some of the main quest first and look on the quest panel in the menu for side quests that are in green. As you travel between quests and attempt them you will find better equipment and uncover some of the question marks anyway.

I just did the quest on Bald Mountain, more specifically, the fight between Ciri and...

the Crones, which I thought it was the games first big misstep to be honest... Thought the first bit of the game did brilliantly to establish them as incredibly powerful and super creepy villains (even Geralt was a bit fearful of them) and then (after a great reintroduction to be fair) it turns into a bog standard and pretty simple hack fight where they're not that powerful at all...

I thought the Geralt vs. Immerith fight was grand though.

New Game Plus is out on Xbox, out tomorrow on PS and PC

I agree completely about the Crones, that was very disappointing. I don't understand why they were subordinate to Imlerith either, the Wild Hunt are simply an intelligent group of elves, they look huge and frightening in their armour but in fighting feats [lore wise, at least] they aren't stronger than any of the Witchers, let alone Geralt. I reckon Philippa and Yen from the sorceresses could probably take them too.
Whilst the Crones managed to subdue their creator - the evil force locked within the tree, and probably conjure shitloads of death and dark magic.

The Crones fight is an absolute cnut on death march. And don't get me started on that Navigator in Skellige. You also have to remember that there is hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of Aen Elle whereas there is only a handful of Witchers left and they're dying out.

In regards to NG+, I'll have a gander, but doubt I'll play it. MGS releases in 14 days and want to do another full playthrough.

I thought the crones fight was pretty easy on death march, still not fully completed it. Imlerith was a bastard at first but I ended up smashing his face in on about my fourth try. I'm only level 27 too  want to complete it before mgs comes out.

Yeah, I'm going to wait for the DLC and to see if any interesting mods come out. Heard the mod kit they released was limited this time though. Can't wait for Metal Gear.

I don't think they'll release the full modkit until they've released their own expansions. I'm sure the full kit took years to come out on Witcher 2.

NG+ isn't coming up for me as a feature, what the feck?

New Game+. Restart the game after having played through it, keep some stuff, get better loot.

Not sure it's worth it for such a story driven game, maybe after a while though.

I'll definitely play through it again. I guess it makes enemies harder too? As if death march hasn't been hard enough

Will definitely be worth it after the two expansions come out...

The two planned Witcher 3 expansions will, combined, "be like the length of The Witcher 2", game director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz

They're definitely higher level. I read that the first few enemies in the prologue are at 30+ level, but it might depend on your own level or something like that.

Yeah, for sure. I worded my post a bit badly, I meant that I'm not sure it's worth diving in straight away for the NG+ content alone. Will definitely replay it in time though.
