Gaming The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

New Game+. Restart the game after having played through it, keep some stuff, get better loot.

Not sure it's worth it for such a story driven game, maybe after a while though.
Yeah, it would've been a better fit for one of the earlier Witcher games where you had two quite different story lines. Always good to have though!

Definitely, it's great but I'm trying to just slug through the main quest until I get to Novigrad again, the Bloody Baron stuff was too draining in every way the first time. Guess it'll keep me busy on and off until the expansions

Finally finished this. A great journey it was. About 80 or so hours overall it took me. Still got a few various side quests to do but I might wait for the expansions to come and then it'll probably be another 40 hours or so of bliss if the rumours of the expansions being massive are true.

This game actually doesnt need any DLC, it's already so fecking huge. I am still discovering new places and new things ffs.

I love these things, I always listen to them all the way through no matter how many times I've heard them before

I think I have a love for this, the same as @swooshboy does for GTA.

I'm unsure if I will ever play another game again tbh, I can only be disappointed surely, after this epic journey, nothing will compare.

What's everybodies favourite Gwent deck? I've only ever tried northern realm and seem to do well with them now I've got a good selection of cards.

Just picked this up.

Expecting big things. I plan to hammer it while I'm off next week. Is it possible to beat in a week?

Hard to look past Nilfgaard once you build it up... just way too powerful.

Monsters is the worst to play against though... feckin' muster cards.

And how much you insist on not fast travelling everywhere, because in real life, Geralt wouldn't be able to fast travel... not that this is an actual way people play the game... :nervous:

Do you plan on sleeping like normal people? If so probably not.

I tend to become nocturnal while I'm off so hoping to be putting a fair few hours in daily.

I always start these types of games with the intention of travelling everywhere but eventually cave to the fast travel system.

this is my first witcher game and despite some early struggles i'm into the swing of it now however i still feel like i'm not playing it right
i've just hit level 18 and purposefully not gone to skellige yet as i wanted to complete everything in the opening areas first but the majority of things now give me nothing in the way of XP
I also dont really get the alchemy/potions side of things i've made shitloads but never touched them, dont really understand the whole toxicity thing, also reckon i'm massively undervaluing my signs as i only ever use quen.
i'm purposefully ignoring gwent entirely cause i often find side games consume me and i never actually move the story forward, thats something for NG+.
It's obviously a great game but I'm not really sure if i'm enjoying it, its so huge its overwhelming and a slog at times

Looking forward to nailing Triss later tho

Doesn't look like I'll get to play this tonight. 7gb up date currently saying 13 hours. Put PS4 in rest mode but don't think it'll help the speed too much.

A full Northern Realms deck is very versatile. I prefer it over the Nilf's.

As long as you have something to deal with those damn monster multi-cards...

I always felt as if Northern Realms is the best. It's the first one you can build, but in the end it's still the strongest. The clear weather effects leader card is great and you get a lot of spies.

I think the absolute best Monsters deck is slightly better than the best Northern Realms deck but for nearly the whole game Northern Realms is the strongest. Monsters is less consistent but unlike the other classes you can load up on spells due to the ability of the crones/vampires and Eredin's 'choose any weather effect from your deck' is almost strictly better than the clear weather ability. The issue is the deck is subpar until you complete all of the best monster sets.

I played way too much gwent in this game.

Has anyone managed to complete the side quest Berengar's Blade at Kaer Morhen?

I found the note in the chest but nothing happens when I read it. I can't speak to Vesemir about it and when I travel upstream to the cave, I can fight the endriaga's but nothing happens again. The game technically hasn't recognised that I have the quest so is there something I am missing??

It's brilliant, I hope they make a separate full Gwent game, would be really popular I think.

I'm really struggling to get into this.Performance wise the frame rate drops are really bad on ps4.

My performance was okay until they released a patch two weeks or so ago and since then it's dropped quite badly and i'm having a lot more glitches and bugs - one thing that has put me off finishing it at the moment despite how good it is.

Now you mention it it didn't seem nearly as framey when I played it without the patch.

My issue atm is that you run out of Hp and any form of refilling it really quick so I'm now at a point where I have to kill three enemies without getting hit because my Hp is so low.

Each patch they've released seems to have taken the game one step forward, two back, in terms of performance and bugs.

Tbf, I think bugs and performance issues tend to come part and parcel with games of this magnitude. I'm not completely excluding the developers of all blame, but the game is quite the achievement even with the bugs. Game ruining ones are obviously another story altogether.

I had heard about a lot of issues at launch and the guys at Giantbomb were advising people to hold off until future patches fixed them. I think it was on last week's episode they recommended picking up now as the latest patch seems to have fixed most issues which was why I grabbed it.

I'll stick with it, but atm I have no urge to put it on.

You have any early game tips that might help draw me in more?

I dunno man, I was drawn in from the start. The Bloody Baron storyline was what really made me stand up and take notice. Helps that I love sci-fi/fantasy and I knew this was the definitive open world Game of Thrones esque game I'd get. The politics reminded me of Westeros, the Wild Hunt = White Walkers etc.

Don't force yourself to like it.

I completely get the GoT connection and I feel that should be enough for me to love this game.

I have probably built it up too much in my head and it was never going to reach my standards.

I'll stick with it, it's not that I think it's bad but I thought it would have grabbed hold of me by now.

You can meditate which refills your potions and health. I got stuck at 1 point aswell on the Keira Metz quest like that until somebody pointed me in the right area.

Cheers.

I knew there'd be a way to replenish. Can you meditate anywhere?

They should get the frame rate fixed on PS4 hopefully. The Xbox version went to crap a little while ago but the latest patch has it as good as I would expect. I did get a bug where the camera got stuck in almost first person mode but I just reloaded the game and it was fine .

Think I'm getting towards the end of the game
Just killed the 2 crones and the wild hunt dude?
. Just been finishing off a lot of secondary quests and Witcher contracts before I finish the main plot. I didn't think I was going to complete this at one point I got pretty overwhelmed in the middle part of the game. I had so many quests that it felt like I was getting nowhere. I left it alone for a while which I'm glad I did because I've enjoyed it so much since I started playing again.

I'm about there too, just a bit further, also doing the side stuff as well  I actually dont want to complete it as I think after it I will feel a bit empty, like when you finish a great TV series. I'll just sit and think "wtf do I do with my life now?"

 Just have a couple of Witcher contracts and the main plot now although I'm sure some more quests are bound pop up. I've just wanted to get to the end before the Autumn/Winter as there are so many games I want to play coming out.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one stalling just so it doesn't end. I can't remember ever dong this with a video game.

Ok, stupid question time of the day.

So, how do you actually throw a snowball at Ciri on PC? They show up in the 'crossbow' slot but pressing Y (the default key for that, couldn'be bothered to remap to something more comfortable) does nothing. Holding Y down does nothing. Nothing does anything, basically. I lost the snowball fight and moved on but I'm curious to know... watched some youtube videos but none actually showed HOW to do it.

I am already in the middle of Isles of Mist and could probably finish the game within the next 8-10 hours, just haven't had the time to play during the last couple of weeks due to holiday. I am not really sure I want to break my playthrough with any other games but with Batman and Until Dawn sitting on my shelf and MGS5 bound to come within 4 days I might have to do that. I won't forget the story because I've spent 100+ hours on it and I think it'd actually be refreshing to get back to this after a month or two of not playing. I will definitely complete this game again in the future anyway.

Do you reckon that's worth buying at full price? seeing as it's Friday I'm thinking of treating myself to a new game after work. I love the horror genre.
