Gaming The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Started this on Tuesday. Level 2 and only done a couple of side quests so far, as well as continuing the Griffin hunt. Liking it a lot. Gwent seems cool. Looks a lot better than I was expecting too, for some reason it didn't look amazing in screens I'd seen but when it's in motion and you're wandering around on horseback it really is stunning.

Quick question; does it matter too much where you put your skill points at the start? Is this the kind of game where you'll get enough skill points to cover most areas or do you need to pick a path and stick to it pretty quickly?

Don't worry about it too much, you can buy a potion which resets your skills anyway.

I'd recommend you stick to a path though.

Gargoyles are bloody tough to take down.

Also. I really love this game, but the horse and swimming mechanics are terrible.
Swimming and underwater missions are terrible in EVERY game (if some smartass comes up with Bioshock I'll murder a thousand kittens by drowning them in a sea of dead I puppies I will have murdered by some other means).

Seriously, I wish game developers simply gave up on the whole underwater shit. It never enhanced any game, ever.

It's decent on WoW.

You get access to more points than previous games, but still nowhere enough to really concentrate on more than one path, especially as you need certain amounts of points in a particular path to unlock the higher levels of abilities. There's fairly easy to get potions which allow you to reset all of your skill points though, so I wouldn't worry too heavily about making the wrong decisions early on.

Assassin's Creed: Black Flag. feck the underwater sections in that.

I haven't found any good silver swords yet. Still using the level 2 viper gear one and I'm now level 11 or 12

I've hated underwater levels ever since 40 Fathoms in Tomb Raider 2. feck 'em.

I think you get a lot of good stuff from completing the witcher contracts, otherwise just keep exploring. I know I got a decent one when I beat the Merry Widow in Velen, can't remember what it was called but when I was around level 10 I thought it was pretty strong.

Have you been going to the ? locations on the map? I usually do all quests in an area and then go around doing these if i'm a high enough level to as you get decent loot and experience from them.

You must have some crafting diagrams by now? I general never find decent swords, but I'll have the Blacksmith make me one for less then 100 coins.

Loot is pretty random but yeah, you should be able to find yourself some nice crafting diagrams around.

I got back into it properly after a couple of weeks interruption, I am properly into Skellige right now and I've been thoroughly enjoying side quests there. I put aside main story for a while because I seem to have about a dozen witcher contracts I am still yet to complete as well as around the same number of side quests, some of them I will have to travel back to Velen for so I expect it won't be until 10 hours from now when I return to the main quest. I got time on my hands now as I'm home alone for the next week and a half so I will probably push the game quite hard in the following days, especially weekend.

Amazing that this game has already been around for 2 months and by my standards I really have been playing this a lot, and I seem to be only slightly over halfway through. Then again I never pay this much attention to side stories because in 99 per cent of games they are nowhere near this complex and engaging.

What I probably won't do are these treasure in the sea quests, seem a little pointless and require way too much sailing and diving which I am not particularly fond of.

Correct, skip them.

Correct, skip them.
There's so much side stuff to do here that I won't even bother. I think I will interrupt my Witcher 3 journey with either Arkham Knight or Sherlock Holmes just to spread Witcher across more time and keep playing until September or something. I will definitely play it again in the future, probably in a year or so. Good thing for me is that I always forget plot details after a while, recently I picked up GTA5 and I don't remember much from the story so it's like playing the game from scratch and finding the same experience as new.

I skipped pretty much most of the Witcher contracts, I've become so overlevelled for them they're over laughably quickly. I'll try and negotiate some stupid price and if they actually accept it then I feel obliged

Aye, i've gotten to a stage where i am level 20 but i have 5-10 quests which i'm a much higher level than as i've not been touching the main quest loads. Not even touched Skellige yet but i'm already 4/5 levels above the recommended time to go there and still have a bit to do in Velen. I'm trying to do as much side quests and ? mark visiting before going to a new area but there is so bloody much to do. It's a bit overwhelming at times and i'm going to take a little break i think before carrying on as i'm not really paying attention to things as much as i was beforehand.

I think what we all want to know is how @Solius is faring

Roamed Skellige for a bit. Did a quest called Black Pearl which pissed me off because the guy I was helping would die before I could even swim back to shore so I had to get the item before starting the quest and then quickly kill the drowners because he dies after one hit like a pussy. Getting back into the swing of it. Banged Yennefer on a unicorn.

So I meditated and I think when I woke I interrupted a horse orgy.

Talk about a defective copy ffs

EDIT ^^ FFS!!

These side quests… Intended to get back to main story during the weekend, spent well over 5 hours on it and I'm still doing side quests because when I finish one there turns out to be another. How fecking big this game is. I won't complete it by the end of September probably

So I started a new game on 1.07 and I'm at the bit where you and Keira fight off Hounds whilst she closes portals.

And it's impossible, because it seems 1.07 has introduced a new bug where Keira dies in one fecking hit.

Why did they change Triss' voice actor and face. Just met her and she seems more annoying now

Triss looks and sounds the same.

Also

Basically, all of your weapons, armour, and level carry over to a new game. Suggested level for quests and contracts are raised thus harder enemies.

Ermmm

EDIT: Character models are HUGELY improved in Witcher 3 so that could be a reason as to why you think she looks different.

Can't wait to waste another good few weeks of my life on this again

Triss' hair is way too red. I don't like her voice either.

Is anyone else having terrible performance issues since the patch? My map takes a while to load and so does the game sometimes. I also sometimes don't hear anything when i attack people (Sword clash sounds/wound sounds etc). It's really annoying.
