Gaming The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

Just beat the game this evening.

Ciri lived, and followed in Geralt's footsteps to become a witcher.
Nilfgaard won the war.
Geralt ran off with Triss to Kovir

Best game I have played I think and will definitely go back to it. Will make different choices next time. I want to make a more agile Geralt built from the School of the Cat style rather than the tank I had built from the Bear school gear. Also, will choose Yennefer this time, as turning her down was literally heartbreaking and it was at times quite painful playing through the latter stages as a result, especially since my Triss glitched out.

The bold fecks me off a treat but I love this game and it eats the hours away, I'm only at level 17 but I'm now dispatching randoms with ease. However I still cant defeat Jenny o'woods or whatever the feck she's called..I'm doing something wrong but I fight that bitch for what seems like hours and get nowhere even with the magic traps so I gave up. Still not got on a boat to Skellige yet but I did just bang the ginger in a lighthouse...Geralts a proper man whore!

When she splits in to three and starts regening health, back away as far as you can and she won't regen anything, then she'll turn back into her main form allowing you to trap her and slash away a bit more. Rinse and repeat. Before I found out about them regening health by being close to you I was similarly dumbfounded, but it was easy as pie afterwards.

I've just got to Skellige in my game and I have to say my initial impressions of the map are very positive, I like the atmosphere of the islands with the clan/pirate feel a lot.

For some reason that girl willingly allowing herself to be burnt alive on the boat with the dead king really disturbed me. I don't know if it was because the people were generally so accepting of the custom or because the atmosphere immediately switched to a fairly jovial feast, with this poor girl who'd just sacrificed herself pretty much immediately forgotten. Either way I felt weird about it for a while

I was stuck on the Jenny Woods bitch until I read something on the game loading screen about not attacking noonwraiths during the dark, so I meditated until the morning and fecked her up proper.

Amazing game, probably will be my best ever after I've completed it as well.

Remember to use oil on your swords, trap her, when she splits into 3 you should be able to take 2 of those out with 2 hits. Bum the shield, wait till she's trapped, strike away for a bit, let yourself get hit a couple times. Take swallow. Rinse and repeat.

I don't know what level my trap is, but the way I hit the they always pop out of my trap anyway, annoying as hell.

Just completed this last night.

Think I got as good an ending as I could hope for really.

Ciri lived and became a Witcher (game tricked me into thinking she'd died though so that was a nice surprise). Geralt lived happily ever after with Yen. Nilfgaard won the war. Skellige thrived under Cerys. Only 2 people I liked died - Vesimir and Crach an Craite. Perhaps unavoidable? Keira was impaled - wasn't too arsed.

Loved the game but have plenty of reservations too. It's great they've created such a huge game but I felt there were too many characters. Throwing in characters for the sake of it - look at your characters tab at the end ffs. I frequently lost track of what the hell was the point of what I was doing. Usually it was something along the lines of commiting a small genocide in order for some guy to pass up a tiny amount of information which would lead to some other guy, who knew some lady, who knew some guy who'd maybe seen Ciri, but only for about 2 mins and the information was fairly meaningless anyway. Rinse and repeat with 5 new character entries next quest.

Some of the content is genuinely good. I really liked the leadership stuff in Skellige for instance. The early stuff in Velen was good too and genuinely creepy at times. Think the game probably lost it's way a bit in Novigrad, though there were certainly some decent storyline threads there too. Like a few people here I ended up skim reading dialogue and using the skip button a lot. Towards the end when, for example,
the elven guy starts talking about more people I'd not even met, I was completely losing interest.

Gameplay wise it's pretty solid. Combat was fun and I got annoyed when I was deprived of fighting for 30/45 minutes at a time because I had to sit through lots of dialogue quests with characters I didn't care about. Witcher senses got so tedious though. They don't require any skill, just the ability to look round for ages - putting me off going back and finishing the Witcher contracts etc. (how do I turn on that setting - it's not in the in-game options). Roach was pretty annoying for the most part too. And don't get me started on swimming. As others have said the inventory panel could use a lot of work - I had so many different dedoctions and potions, but hardly used them because I couldn't be bothered sifting through each of them one by one to find the one I needed.

The game is visually stunning though and it's tempting to pick it up again. Just can't invest that much time again. Will probably wait for Fallout now and have a bit of a hiatus, speak to my girlfriend, see what's happening in the news etc.

It's in Display > HUD Configuration > Witcher Senses On Minimap.

Yeah, I just done another swimming thing, what a fecking carry on, it's ridiculous. I agree with not using potions and decoctions most of the time, I hardly even bother changing weapons or anything now.

Cheers. I will try this later as I can't go on without that unfinished business. As soon as she is dealt with I got a couple of missions to do before heading to Skellige. Very much looking forward to it although the side quests are a lot better than the main story arc personally however I am new to Witcher games so probably not so invested in Ciris character as veterans of the series.

Read first line of spoiler then closed it again!

Ciri is a new character isn't she? I picked this up as my first witcher game and I just assumed she was new

Edit: Appears not. She's been there all the time

I take it you have the game on the highest difficulty setting then?

Just got out of white orchard and in Velen now. Is there any storage in this game?

I have 160 weight capacity through saddlebags and that is more than enough. In reality I would need two removal lorries following me around..all the shit I'm carrying!

New patch this week. If it's not fixed by then I'll give up.

I had 900 weight capacity. I'm not wasting my time on that inventory system.

Did find a small but wonderful mod to place all potions in front of books in the menu.

All Witcher games have awful inventory management. As much as I love CD Projekt Red, they probaby ought to start outsourcing inventory UI design for future games.

The most annoying thing about the inventory for me is changing fecking bombs, potions and oils. Why is there no quick way of doing it? Wish there was a way to change them in the left button menu.

Should I start doing the main quest when I get to Velen or do side stuff to level up? Also do saddlebags stack up...don't want to waste my money on the crap ones. Only one I've seen is +30 from the bowl cut guy in white orchard.

I wish it was like Witcher 2 where you could just give ur stuff to the innkeepers to hold

No, they don't stack. You need to find better ones than what you have.
And do the main quests at the start. You're too low leveled to actually explore Velen as soon as you get there.

Regarding saddlebags, try and find the horse racing quests and do those, you will get horse accessories for nothing if you win. Obviously you won't get the top gear straight away but it saves money early on.

Patch notes:

  • A new, alternative (optional) movement response mode for Geralt.
  • A player stash for storing items, available in various locations throughout the game. Stash locations are marked on the player's map.
  • Crafting and alchemy components no longer add to the overall inventory weight.
  • Books are now placed in a dedicated tab in the inventory and books that have already been read are properly greyed out.
  • Multiple sorting options are now available in the inventory.
  • Alchemy formulas and crafting diagrams can be "pinned", meaning all components and ingredients required to make them will be conveniently marked in the Shop panel.
  • Dozens of fixes for quest related issues, both major and minor.
  • A few performance enhancements, including the optimisation of FX, scenes and general gameplay.
  • Various improvements to horse behaviour.

Coming soon apparently.

I'm glad that I got the game late after reading that. Having storage is such a basic thing to have for a big RPG yet it took both Dragon Age and Witcher 3 a patch way after release to put it in.

Another thing they should fix is the time played counter. It says 4 days for me when I've played 20 hours I think
