Gaming The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

I've put 78 hours in so far and I've just got to Skellige. Absolutely fantastic game, but I've burnt out and don't think I can keep going at the moment. I'll take a break, but any time I do that with a game I never go back to it. Shame really, it's just too bloody big!

So many casuals in this thread!!!
I just don't have the time to game like I used to. I had two weeks off work to put in all those hours, now I'm back to work it'll take me about 2 months to actually finish it.

How do you mean?
Casual gamers :p

Yeah, I wasn't really being serious. As I said on the previous page, I agree that the game is very long and I can certainly understand why some people have trouble finding the time for it. I think that, unlike Dragon Age Inquisition, it's interesting all the way through though, which is incredible.

Definitely. I only got a few hours in to Dragon Age before I gave up. I think the fact that I played The Witcher 2 before 3 kind of added to me getting a bit tired of it. Took me 50 hours to complete 2, so that's 128 hours total between the two of them in about 3 weeks. Hopefully I get the urge in a few weeks to get back into it and finish it.

I enjoyed the recent dragon age game

I don't there is too much between the games

But out of recent open world western RPGs skyrim and fallout still reign supreme

Ah yeah, I know that feeling when you play through a series :)

Just read that they'll be releasing two expansion packs adding about 20 hours content later this year and next year.

That sounds like DLC that is worth getting.

Going to pick this up today. Is there anything story wise that I really need to know from the first two before starting the third. Or can I just jump in and fumble my way through things and work it out bit by bit that way?

Just done the quest where
Geralt, Lambert and Eskel get drunk
Had me in stitches throughout, funniest quest in any game I've played.

After hours and hours of grinding, dismantling and crafting I have obtained the Master-crafted Ursine witcher set. Really powerful if you have invested most points into combat and any adrenaline point generating skills.

I haven't played the first two and I've understood the story in this so far without much problem.

there are good five minute summaries of both games on youtube that are worth looking at. Should have you set.

I finished it on Saturday, sadly, and I got the
worst ending, which is frustrating. I mean fair enough I got my comeuppance for shagging both Triss and Yen, but I didn't like that despite all these seemingly huge decisions throughout the game, it appears the biggest of all and the one that completely fecked me over was just accepting the gold from the emperor. Big deal.
I'll probably keep playing post-game, I've done every quest but I ignored most of the ? marks and scavenger hunts. Might as well get pimped out for the expansions.

What level did you finish at?
35. Haven't seen many people go past that.

It's difficult to manage between main quests and side quests, because doing the main quests massively over levels you for the side ones which then gives you almost no xp for them, and considering some of the best gear is level 40ish it's annoying. I've pretty much done every quest now, not sure I'll get high enough to wear it.

not that you were asking me , I finished on level 35

Every single side quest and witcher contract done except for the collect every gwent card quest. I have missed missable ones so that Quest should really fail.

Every single Question mark in Velen / Novigrad is done. But I had about 90 X ?s left in skelleige which I cannot be arsed about

I'm also at 35 after finishing, only have a few minor side quests left.

yeah the Skellige ones are apparently shit, and all out in the mission of the ocean, and I despise the swimming mechanics in the game, so not sure I could be arsed.

The amount of people that got the "bad" ending is quite baffling to me, all you have to do
is be nice to Ciri + snowball fight to get the good one

That one isnt really necessary though if you do some of the other stuff
snowball fight anf letting her talk to the lodge. Plus trashing the lab.

Played up to the point of being about to leave the first area now I think and really enjoying this so far. Side quests all feel separate and I really like the detail and such on some of them. Makes a nice change from the very basic fetch quests that you normally get. Hopefully it keeps it up.

I'm also struggling a bit deciding which quests to go for. If I'm at level 8 and there's a main quest at level 6 and a side quest at level 7 or 8, which should I do first? Feels like I'm constantly losing out on XP. Should I generally go for the main quests at once or should I try and clear side quests?

Just found a really cool exp glitch. I haven't seen it on this forum but it has been posted in other forums.

There is a quest in Skellige called 'Path of the Warriors'. It requires you to claim two items, one on top of a mountain and one in some underground section. If you climb the mountain before accepting the quest, you can still claim the item. However, once you accept the quest you will be required to talk to a bloke sitting on a bench near a bridge who will brief you on your task.

Once you cross the bridge towards the mountain, the game will acknowledge that you have already got the item from there and grant you 50xp. If you return to the bloke and talk to him again the mission will restart and you can cross the bridge again to claim another 50xp. Rinse and repeat as much as you like.

Sorry if posted before.

Don't think it matters on the order, but once you're about 6 levels too high for a quest, the experience for doing it is dramatically less I think? (They turn grey in the quest list).

Sounds like it would take forever to get a level still though.

Just do the main quests and you will level up at a natural pace, most of them aren't difficult.

Just finished it on Death March, just the stupid glitched gwent trophy to get before the platinum. I have two saves and it glitched on both, one where I missed Zoltan's card and its not where it should be post tutorial and the other I can't open the cage of the person in distress merchant who moves to Claywitch and has the last cards I need on another save.

Eh.

Cheers guys!

This game is just amazing I have to say.. Doing the Family Matters quest currently and it's soo good. Haven't really played much the earlier Witchers as I gave up on both fairly early, but this shits on so many other RPGs in terms of writing and lore.

Finished Witcher 2 and have started playing this...finding it pretty tricky to get health on hard mode as it doesn't regenerate. Is there no health potion??

I also set 'Simulate Witcher 2 Save' to on but it hasn't asked me about anything? I hope I haven't accidentally clicked the wrong option

Swallow potion. It asks when you reach Vizima.

You get a potion diagram at some point early on, it can't be too far away. It's called swallow. Also you can use a skill point on something which regens health during the day when not in battle.

Really? DAI felt so generic and levels below TW3 for me. Far too much fetch questing and barely any character development. I guess - judging by your favourites - that you're more into the free roam and true non-linear RPG's like Skyrim. Understandable. But for me, the sophisticated plot lines and immersive character control is what I really prefer. Skyrim was the pinnacle at its time but I think Wild Hunt has elevated the bar for RPG's.
