Television The Wire

Rawls: From now on, you have to write your reports in a computer.

McNulty: What the feck did I do? Can't do it. Better send me to drive the boat.

Rawls: To the boat then.

McNulty: Nicely done!

Technology is a central theme in the show, namely 'the wire', it is an easy one to miss like.

If Keltoi neverminds this because of the aspect ratio, he/she doesn't deserve the Wire.

Newsflash: content trumps format... 3D is NOT a quantum leap in cinema, etc. etc.

Waiting until they put some colors in Casablanca and 12 Angry Men. Can't see movies that are only black and white.

I hear Schindlers list has a bit of red in it but until they bother to colour the rest of it in I can't be arsed.

Force changing the aspect ratio is worse, either get you stretched out faces and what not or about 1/4th of the actually scene cutout.

The amount of stuff your missing out on because you can't handle 4:3......shame. But yeah, that's gonna be a whole generation soon, black bars on the sides are gonna be like their black and white. NO GO!

With every generation there are pockets who don't let that stop them. It'll be their treat :)

So it seems like everyone recommends me to watch this. IMDB rates this as 9.4, anyone here disagree with this?

I keep going back to it, every year... It's just art imitating life. It's so genuine and understated compared to what mostly goes on the box, and it's funny, brutal, educational and whatever else you want from a serious show. It starts off slow and simple, then as the series progresses you realise that it's been zooming out, covering more and more ground in what it elucidates.

Tremendous show.

Only drawback is that it ends.

Okay I'm just going to give in and get on this, can't be the only person not to watch this for too much longer, spartacus will just have to wait.

Just finished season 1. Not bad and all that... Mind you, I didn't think the final episode of the season was all that. I reckon it was kind of predictable in parts. Looking forward to season 2.

Finished season 5 tonight - fantastic

As Clay Davis says its the 'sheeeeeeet' - I've never seen anything with so many fantastic Characters

Just finished series 5. Despite the last series being well below the standard of the others, series 4 especially, I didn't want it to end. Superb.

The only down side is that most other cop shows now seem stupid and unrealistic.

That's definitely a downside. There's just not enough good cop/crime dramas. I think The Shield is decent, but still nowhere near The Wire. The Corner mini-series was pretty good too. There just needs to be more.

I mention cop shows because I have been unable to enjoy another one since starting to watch this. The "street" criminals are always far too well spoken for a start.

Most of the cop related procedural stuff is very realistic. It is easily the most realistic of any cop show I have ever seen anyway. You do just have to discount stuff like McNulty with the homeless man though.

The Shield was very good, but the standard of acting is nowhere near that of The Wire.

So. Finished watching it now after a couple of months.

Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeit. Best TV show I've ever seen. I find it funny that people argue about which season was best or worst. I guess you just have to discuss something. Who cares when they all vary from superb to very good at least.

This. I'm about to start seeing for the third time.

Bit random this, but in Season 3, what's the significance of the scene where Herc and Carver bump into Poot and Bodie at the cinema? They just see them and get embarrassed, is there anything to it?

I think they both just didn't know how to interact together in a normal social setting compared to the type of setting they normally interact within (cops and robbers/criminals so to speak).

Its a little awkward for both as they probably hadn't considered what the other does during the time when they are not going about their respective professions (if you can call selling drugs a profession) then they find that they actually have something in common as they both enjoy movies(I think they were even watching the same movie, correct me if i'm wrong).

I ended up liking Bodie in the end, which is pretty mad considering he was a psycho.

Yeah that sounds right, cheers.

This show is unbelievable btw. Best tv I've ever seen, no doubt. I only watched it for the first time recently and I'm already watching it again. It's incredible. I'm on S03E10 and I'm not sure what I was thinking during my first watch of the 3rd season because I thought it was the weakest after Season 5, but seeing it again now, it's absolutely brilliant.

Yeah, Bodie was far from a psycho, he was probably one of the more good hearted of the gangsters, he had a lot of principles and basically hated Marlo because there was absolutely no logic to a lot of his killings.

I thought Bodie murdered some poor kid in the first season?

May be wrong.

He did because he was ordered to, and Wallace was going to snitch.

Bodie was ruthless but only when he had to be, Marlo was just an arrogant fecker who killed anyone that annoyed him.
