Television The Walking Dead

Just thinking about the characters; how many do you feel emotionally invested in? The new characters are awful - Hispanic Lara Croft, army bloke and the mullet. Adding on top of that Bob, Tyreese, Carl, etc. Hershel was a great character and good actor and them gets killed off. I only like Rick really, Michonne and Daryl are alright, but the rest are meh.

None for me, that is what makes the show much harder to watch than usual. I've always liked Rick from the start, and would be ok with only him surviving the entire thing alone. I just want the likes of Glenn off of my screen with his incredibly soppy attitude, it's worse than watching Love Actually in terms of romance.

Yeah, I liked Herschel. Glen was a good character until he got with Maggie, now he's a bit boring. Rick is decent mainly because he's acted well. I quite like Daryl and Michonne, not because there acted particularly well but because they're a bit unusual and they're the type of people you'd want on your side in the apocalypse. Carol is pretty well acted and her character is a bit better now IMO.

Too much filler and then a decent finale, typical of Walking Dead. The blonde girl with Daryl really annoyed me. I read that Daryl has been fired from the show due to differences with the producers.

I haven't watched the last 3 episodes on purpose, have I really missed anything interesting ?

I've lost interest this season and I am not sure if I'm going to carry on watching it, but the finale was probably one of the better episodes this season.

Watched the first season when it came out and just catching up with the rest of this now - is it so stupid on purpose? I know they have to come up with storylines somehow and that it's based on a comic, but is it intentionally so ridiculous?

THIS IS WHY YOU CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS, GOVERNOR!

The computer game is much better than the show (far less stupid). The TV show is rubbish because the writers are beyond awful. The last season did improve though.

surprised there is so much hate for the show, I know it has its issues alright... it is based from a comic book you have to remember so some of the stories will be weak!

I thought the ending to season 4 was very good... Not sure why there is so much hate towards the show here!!

Well the problem with these apocalypse style shows is that, by definition, there's a limit to the scope and stories you can tell. I don't think it's really any coincidence that the best apocalypse storytelling comes in films and not TV series. I know it's a favourite with the geeks, but for me Battlestar Galactica was another example of the same. Tailed off exponentially after a brilliant season 1.

read a few pages of the thread and you'll see why..

Basing a series on a comic is fine, that doesn't mean they can't put their own twists etc on it, from what was in my opinion a brilliant opening series, the latter ones have got progressively worse, characters repeating themselves and not evolving, no real rapport with on screen characters for me, the zombies become more dosile daily and the scariest thing about the show is a young lad of about 11, and he's also one of the more tedious charcters in my opinion, It started at 9/10, each season seems to be going 8,7,6 for me.. Although I've heard good things about the new one, so look forward to it.

that makes no sense.

I don't want to put spoilers in for people who have not seen all the episodes up to date, but I have to disagree... One good thing about the show is it does kill off a lot of the main characters so it keeps you guessing, Carl is a tool, hardly scary! The other young blonde girl who Carol took under her wing was scarier!!! The zombies are fine, one thing about them though they seem to be just coming up with more creative ways to have them killed now with each episode! That is kinda cool in some ways!

As for character development, I think its kind of tough for the writers at the moment because each of the main characters essentially realise the group is safest now together... There is no breakdown within the group re: like Shane... everyone seems united and feel they need to stick together so how exactly do you expect them to develope??

This show had so much potential, it's a shame the writing has been pretty shit.

Thankfully, season 4 showed a few signs of improvement towards the end but I still don't see what direction the show is going in. For large parts of last season it just seemed like they were making it up as they went along.

that makes no sense.

Sorry, I mean some of the villians are comic book like in the sense they always seem to escape/evade death... some of the action as well is bit goofy! but take it with a pinch of salt...

personally dont think its that bad but it is about 8.5/10 for me... imdb backs up on that!

The governor was the epitome of this - like when

Andrea ran off and he chased her, then she left him stuck with no gun in a hall full of walkers

And the eye patch! All that was missing was a swivel chair and a cat, ffs!

It's only as ridiculous as the idea that when people die they become zombies and want to eat other people. Keep that in mind and enjoy the show.

It's amazing how many people use this as justification for every ridiculous plot line, shit character or illogical event in the series.

One thing that really makes zero sense is the whole transmission thing.

OK, so, everyone's a carrier then? And everyone goes zombie when they die? And the only way to go zombie before you die is to get bitten or scratched? But you already carry it - why would being bitten or scratched affect this any differently than the fact that you're already a carrier? Is it because it's transmitted in saliva? Well then why doesn't someone turn zombie the instant they get a cut in their mouth while eating/brushing teeth/whatever?

I mean I get that the whole premise of the show is that it's based on some fictional horror fantasy that zombies could exist, and what the feck would you do if it really happened, but that premise only works if you treat it as if you're showing how things might genuinely unfold and telling a great story about it. To me it's not a great story if you can't understand how it could happen.

And don't get me started on the whole 'OMG, apocalypse just happened, must turn the remains of the United States back into the old wild west!' mentality that these shows always have. I just don't think that's what would happen in a real world.

Did they not already explain this to some degree? At the medical unit place where they we're all locked in, that it shut down the brain / took it over once you died it turned you into a zombie!

It'd seem that the virus is airborne, most likely the explanation that will be given.

I don't think I've ever seen anyone actually turn into a zombie without dying first. It seems to me that while they're all infected, the virus remains dormant until they die. For some reason getting bitten by a zombie leads to a fairly quick death. It's possible that a bite or scratch causes an unrelated infection or some sort of blood poisoning that's just extremely deadly. But even in those cases, death is still the final trigger to become a zombie. I don't think there's an inconsistency here.

While the show has some flaws, I think people are being ridiculously pi$$y about the show uneccessarily! I've gone back over a lot of the posts here today and some of the comments are ridiculous and bitchy just for the sake of it...

I don't understand why people continue to watch it if they think it really is that awful! Just switch off then... simple!

Yeah, basically what I said... your guy in the CDC (think thats what it was called) already explained this!!

I watch a show to be entertained. The characters in this show are terrible, there is very little character development they all act incredibly stupid, making daft decisions. It's no surprise that the show started to get better when they began to develop the characters a little bit. However, it's Zombies and it's the only Zombie show on television. (for what its worth, I skipped the whole farm section as I'd grown bored of the show at that point. I only started watching it again when they were in the Prison.

Also, to the person comparing this show to Battlestar Galactica... that is utter drivel. The characters in Battlestar Galactica were far, far superior as was the acting. Season 2 and 3 were excellent. It only got a bit stale near the end of the show.

well by your own admission there you skipped a good chunk of it so what do you know?! not being rude but your not really in a position to rate something you don't watch properly!

The main problem with TWD is that it tries to be so much more than just a zombie show, in the same way that Game of Thrones is far more than just Fantasy, The Wire is more than just a crime show, etc. It tries to do what other great shows do and put deep characters, relationships, drama and plots into a simple overall premise, but it fails terribly at it. The writing is poor, the characters are boring and the drama just descends into soap opera for the most part. And, the actual zombie stuff in the thing is dumber than most intentionally dumb zombie movies are.

It's also amazing how many people in this thread complain about the show yet keep watching it.

Also stop blaming the comics for TV show. The comic writing is much better.
