I prefer Human, but Symbolic is a close second. Saw Death again 2 weeks ago at Graspop, fantastic show just like last time. The guys from Cynic do a great job making Chuck's music live on. They played the title track and my personal favourite Crystal Mountain from the Symbolic album. Ended the show on a high with Zombie Ritual and Pull the Plug, which the crowd went completely nuts on. I think the only album they didn't visit was Individual Thought Patterns, which I probably consider their least album so that's fine by me.
My fav Death album too.. Just a great great man Chuck was.. I saw them in 1993 great gig and still to this day one of the greatest concerts I have ever seen.
My top 5 metal albums..
Peace Sell / Megadeth
Human / Death
Season/South/Reign / Slayer (cant pick)
Master of puppets / Metallica
Beneath the remains / Sepultura
Always preferred Peace Sells over Rust in Peace, never met anyone who agrees until now.
Well I love Rust as well but before Peace sells metal was a bit stuck, the agression, the writing and that line up! Gar Samuelson was fantastic jazz drummer and Chris Poland a great guitarist. Mustaine and Ellefson full of anger and smacked out of their minds. A masterpiece of a thrash album all about speed and precision..
Couldn't agree more..Yeah i love that album. Megadeth and Metallica took thrash from being just this punk and NWOBHM influenced speed based thing and turned it into things like Black Friday and Ride The Lightning. As you say i love Rust in Peace too, i think Dave's a brilliant writer no matter what so i love the Youthanasia era too.
Well I cant choose between SOH, RIB, SITA.Good choice. If there's a better Slayer album than RIB then i haven't heard it.
Well I cant choose between SOH, RIB, SITA.
But you are right fantastic album..
I agree but I am a bit tainted by this era.. So when they where released back in the days I did play all of them non stop. So I cant pick one, but your assessment isnt wrong by any means..South of Heaven i thought was a bit uneven, it's got some great tracks though. The title track, Behind the Crooked Cross and Ghosts of War in particular. Seasons in the Abyss i think is much better, not a bad track in my opinion. Reign in Blood is just brilliant though.

So not tainted at all, young and fresh..The first album release I remember being around for from them was Christ illusion so I guess that's where we differ.
So not tainted at all, young and fresh..
Fresh set of ears never hurts
The first time i heard them i remember thinking "what in gods name is this?!"
Same with Master of Puppets strangely enough. I'd have both records in my top 10 ever now. Weird really.
Well back in the days, I couldn't get enough.. Slayer,Megadeth,Sepultura. Then it went full retard, Death,Cannibal Corpse and more.. But some of it really stuck Megadeth,Death and Slayer have been with me since I was10 or 12..
New Opeth is awesome. Not death metal awesome, but awesome in a different way.
Was kind of hoping/expecting this. It's clear that they've been through a transition period the last few years. They've been moving away from the death metal for a while now. I didn't think their last album (Heritage) was as bad as many others thought it was, but it was far from their best as well. I've only listened to the new one twice now, but in contrast to the last one, they really did get the songwriting right this time. Not death metal anymore (maybe Akerfeldt can't handle all the grunting anymore), but you do feel it's still Opeth.
Had the melody from 3:50 stuck in me head all day. Fortunately it goes on for about 6 minutes so I don't have to press repeat too many times.
They're supporting Opeth in London next month. Who's a coming?
