Yep. It's extremely sad that we have to live among people who don't see that trump is just so despicable. How can they not see how terrible he is? People were letting off fireworks in my town last night to celebrate this terrible excuse of a man. They had watch parties and they were cheering and clapping while the rest of us watch in despair. What the feck is happening? Wake up fools.
 
There are precisely zero people I want dead right now, I'd rather justice prevail for the aforementioned, and that doesn't involve death in my opinion.

Morality is massively skewed of people are actively wanting assassination attempts and killings on the streets and seeing it as a positive thing.
Would you change that for some other, historical figure?
 
I'll never get why people who are obscenely rich already sacrifice their freedom and security for even more wealth by destabilizing a society completely needlessly.

I don't support assassinations but my head also isn't buried in the sand. There is no justice for people with power these days.
 
Those numbers don't show what brought things down. You're doing exactly the same thing as the Trump supporters, just in reverse: "oh, it happened when Biden was president, it must be because of him".

Biden didn't cause the inflation, and he didn't fix it. It's dumb.
He definitely helped bring it down with economic policy and averted a recession, which was predicted by most financial experts.

Among the legislation he passed: the chips and science act, the infrastructure investment and jobs act.

What did Trump do to damage the economy?

Started trade wars, mismanaged the pandemic leading to a higher death rate, lowered the corporate tax rate which profits went straight to share holders not workers, did not pass any major legislation to help the economic recovery, exacerbated the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

No, he made the inflation slightly worse by increasing public spending, partly because it was politically expedient to do so, and partly because he/the party thought the policies would be worth it. This isn't a problem, because controlling inflation isn't his job, it's the Fed's job.

You then pivot to what you think Trump did to damage the economy, because your goal the whole time has been to play politics. This is irrelevant and weird. That Biden didn't fix inflation is not an attack on him or a defense of Trump.

See, I don't want him dead out of hatred or rage. But his actions created a situation in which his death would likely save millions if not billions of innocent lifes. A democracy usually has mechanisms in place that prevent such people from amassing too much power but in the US' case, all of them have failed and their oligarchs don't have to fear prosecution by the law enforcement because Trump has made a mockery out of the separation of powers.

So if his death is beneficial to society, am I not allowed to want it?

I've 2 young children now and it fills me with a deep existential dread about it all. I think I'll take a break from this thread and recover from this onslaught and then get back to my activism roots when I've a little more energy. Might help you to @Pexbo, to put this thread on ignore and go hug your boy when you can
I'd considered the same thing, and hadn't dared look at this thread since the election result. Trouble is, you hear everything that's happening from other sources, whether you want to or not, and so reading it here from you guys who have opinions very similar to my own when it comes to ethics and politics is much more preferable.

That's living in a fantasy world though. If there was any justice left then Trump would be in jail for the rest of his days and anyone involved with him would be as far away from the US administration as humanly possible. But unfortunately we live in a reality where these people, who are among the worst humanity has to offer, have complete absolute control of the most powerful nation on our planet.

Let's be real here, the world and its future would instantly be a much better place without him in it.
 
It will be, and under any other presidency you would be sure that a potential constitutional amendment of such partisan nature would not go through, but under Trump - his policymakers who came prepared for the loopholes, his lap dog SC willing to overlook them, and his rabid but powerful supporters who will cheer and back his every move - you never know, it might as well go through.

The argument would be that certain classes of people who arrived without legal approval are not subject to the jurisdiction of the USA. That is where the loophole would be found.

Been a while, but I thought the first season was decent enough. Never watched beyond that.

All commentary I've seen is about how the courts will interpret the bolded bit, so it's not even an amendment that's needed. I'm no legal expert, of course, but I wouldn't be confident of this SC having a non-Trumpian perspective. Made the mistake of visiting the cesspit known as Blind, and there's unanimous, unfiltered racism on full display rejoicing in this EO. The majority of this country voted for a racist, the majority of this country, by proxy, does not like brown people being here and will do anything to make life difficult for them to force them to leave.

So I'm not optimistic, let's see.

People who go to USA just to deliver their baby legally, will they fall foul of this. In my country a lot of people do that as a backup nationality for their child.

Yes the EO covers all tourist visas (B1, B2), student visas (F1), all work visas (L1, H1B, O1), and their dependent visas (F2, L2(?), H4, O3, etc).

In theory the would and TBH I can understand why people want this stopped and I don't think there are very many countries that allow this anymore, I know the UK stopped automatic citizenship a few decades back

So the trend is that they get the nationality and then the child has pretty easy time of going anywhere on the planet for a better life and more opportunities. In certain cases they go to the US for studies as a local student.

1st season is pretty good actually with the coup but I found the 2nd season pretty garbage as the whole premise of the series was concluded in the first season.

Yep, I get this, too. Birth tourism is an undesirable behavior for many 'developed' nations. I also don't think it's unnatural to end birth citizenzhip by itself as a policy for tourist visas, but to include it for student and work visas, coupled with 50+ year GC backlogs and application rates for Asian countries is clearly a targeted operation towards specific demographics.

It's not even close to being the worst of the EOs.

Whilst I don't wholly disagree with what you say, I still draw the line at wishing him to be dead.

Do I wish that his kids would have to mourn the loss of their dad? Hell no, but most people don't think of the humanity behind those kind of sentiments.

Broadly though, Trump and similar politicians/influential rich figures recently have thrived off the polarization of their characters, the more people that actively loathe them, the more fervent and entrenched their supporters get.
By stating he should be assassinated or he'd be better off dead, you are in essence pandering to what these people want, a common enemy to keep them relevant.
There's better ways to fight these cretins and killing/violence is definitely not the answer.

The difference is that in the US those who go to give birth pay a pretty penny for it while in other "developed" countries the service is free.

I don't see any argument as to why this practice should not be stamped out. Countries bear a lot of responsibilities to their citizens, obtaining citizenship just to make travel easy is not something to be encouraged.

I completely understand why MAGA wants it banned. I also understand why people will take advantage of this to get a citizenship for their child.

If I would be full palestinian and I would like a palestinian state. I could give to shits about palestinia if that would secure that my family is blown to pieces. And yes, I truly believe that the ceasefire was Trump's team doing because it was sitting there since May. Now, Trump doesn't give a shit of palestinians (and Israel for that matter) and it was for self serving purposes as PR stunt and it may well be that in a few weeks, when the hostages are released, funds Israel even more to keep going with the genocide even in a more unleashed carnage. But so far, is not the case

Thing is that a lot of those glitzy towers you see in places like Miami are owned by wealthy foreigners who - you guessed it - had a child in the US to claim citizenship. I can basically guarantee you all that money will stay in places like Florida - because that's what they love in the real estate market.

This is simply meant to target the less fortunate - children of immigrants who are not wealthy. When the court strikes it down that is probably exactly what they hope for because now they can change it to say it should target only certain less advantaged groups. Or worse - have it based on a reporting system where people seemed a "problem" will see the impact and the rest can go free.
