The Trump Presidency - Part 2

I think it will be a big surprise for many americans to realize most of their fellow citizens will just slide into fascism and shrug with a "well what are you gonna do..."

That is the attitude that the pardoned Jan 6 people will take and many others. Minorities should be very worried

The pandemic and Ukraine war were the major drivers of the spike inflation, Biden cannot be blamed for that (but Trump can: he made the pandemic worse and enabled Russia in their territorial aggression).

Worldwide, when the inflation rate was brought down, thanks to Biden‘s bills we had a much lower rate than other rich nations. This is what I‘m reffering to.

It is true that the rate has stalled at 3%. We will see where Trump takes it.

With a 25% taxes on Mexican and canadian products starting feb 1st, I assume will spike quite high. If he adds China 60% I don't know how it will go

I still think is just a measure of pressure to get as much favourable terms. He will bully the entire world and most likely will succeed

Well one thing is for sure, if the Mexico ones go ahead the price of food will be astronomical and when the deportations start they'll go even higher

Seems like its pretty easy to be flippant about political assassination, after they just achieved a clean sweep mandate too, if he was assassinated in this climate right after being inaugurated it would make Covid, BLM and the civil war look tame, inevitably inviting the kind of militant domestic fascism a lot of these kind of echo chambers are pretending currently exists while also completely isolating Europe, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Israel dealing with Russia, Iran, China etc.

Armed resistance too, good one, its bad enough we would get his cronies who would succeed him in control of the federal government out looking for revenge but a majority of gun owners are republican, a majority of veterans are republican, a majority of active duty front line soldiers are republican etc, such partisan civil unrest really wouldn't go well. Large urban blue states like California, New york etc could be starved in weeks because of where all the food and fuel is.

No i dont want to see American blood run in the streets best to just grin and bear it this is the path the country chose and he hasn't been shy about his plans, worst comes to worse hope political institutions remain strong and that Trump will be a small bump in the road where his worst offenses will be held up in court then be voted out like 2016.

You do realise that California is the largest food producing State, they won't run out of food and given all the tariffs the rest of the country won't have the money yo pay for it

isn't california agriculture dependent on water flowing from other states?

But they are, despite being present illegally. If they murder someone they will be subject to the jurisdiction.
I mean yes, I agree. I just think that SCOTUS could draw a distinction between jurisdiction towards lawful residents and visitors and jurisidction in relation to unlawful residents or visitors.

The latter could include international laws relating to asylum, and the jurisdiction of the criminal law, but not the question of birthright citizenship. Originalists would happily make the argument that the drafters of the 14th amendment assumed that this would only apply to persons lawfully present in the country.

It's not a great leap for them to make. Certainly less of a leap than the view that the President has immunity for everything he does whilst in office.

Is going to be shitty 4 years, but i will enjoy every schadenfreude moment as possible

I presume so yes,, but those states are also dependent on Californina's money (New York as well) so no water, no money, I expect that CA would have enough of it's own water to grow enough to feed itself and the 'friendly' states, I'm also pretty sure they could afford to import tariff free food from Mexico :)

JD Vance is such a wimp. Looking to catch his wife's eye to snigger and she just stares straight ahead.

He tries it twice and even says something to her and she still just looks straight ahead.

It is crazy that both POTUS and VP married immigrants and they have this rhetoric

That’s who I mean, wasn’t his character like housing development and urban planning or something similar? So number 13 on that list
Yep - mind you that would require the rich right-wing loonies to blow up Congress along with their Dear Leader

I‘m all for it if Trump pays the difference.

Yes, the inflation cannot reasonably be blamed on Biden, but right wingers will still do it just because he was in charge when it happened, because he's on the opposite political team. Similarly, inflation coming back under control cannot reasonably be credited to Biden, but you will still do it just because he was in charge when it happened, because he's on your political team.

Still similarly, if inflation spikes in the next four years you will blame Trump, while if it doesn't you won't credit him.

It's not about reality, just political games.

We need this: people who are brave and willing to speak up against Trump.
Aye. Especially people of the faith IMHO.

Btw I heard that an Imam from Dearborn was promised to have a speaking role at the inaugurationby Trump after helping voters to come out for him - but was told to get lost after he refused to label Hamas as a terrorist organization. More egg on face.
