The Trump Presidency - Part 2

Finally, more Lebensraum on the way

More to do with melting ice caps and newly accessible mineral deposits you would assume. A 19th century style transactional treaty. The type America was built on. And right up Trumps street.

Good grief. Israel's number one supporter, defending arguably the world's most prolific antisemite.

Support for Israel and hatred towards Jews continues to be the most curious of bedfellows. To such a degree that it is now to be expected that anyone on the far reaches of the far-right, or anyone aligned with nazis, will be in full support of Israel and its actions.
Nazis and the far-right hate Muslims more than Jews. Bonus hate points when the Muslims are Arab and/or Brown.

I don't think there is a discernible diffrence in the level of hate they have for either. They view Muslims as the greater threat now and verbalise that hatred more often but they are primed to go after Jewish people when they see the opporunity to do so.

What actually appears to be happening is that Israel is viewed by many on the far extremes of the far-right in Europe and the US (e.g. Tommy Robinson, Marine Le Pen, Anders Breivik, Elon Musk, etc.) as vanguard of 'Western Civilisation', militarily defending our way of life from their mythical dark horde. That the country contains so many Jewish people is a dissonance that they are prepared to tolerate for the time being, especially while Israel continues it's brutal extermination campaign.

The Christian Fascist far-right in the US support Israel for more biblical reasons.

American Nazi's have found many allies against jews in history.

Louis Farrakhan, the leader of the Nation of Islam, has repeated for a national television audience his description of Adolf Hitler as ''a very great man.''

As sources say Trump could deport undocumented Chinese first, Asian American groups rush to prep

Any nation that does this in an abrupt manner wont do well

The effect it created on fear, economy sudden shock, and disruptions on workforce would be catastrophic

People flock to America hoping for protection by law, doing this would deter immigrants, students, investor etc

In recent years Chinese students are already reluctant to stay in the US after they finished their studies, most of my relatives went back citing they dont feel safe there anymore with shootings, crimes, and probably now racism and politics. Compared to in the 90s where everyone dream the american dream. Not to mention asia arent in shortage of job opportunities for US graduate, comparable living standard, and modern city that could match US big cities

And they're considered financially well off, with cars and houses and a master degree. Not some illegal immigrants

Authoritarians sell the "bright future" with language that the present should "struggle" to achieve those futures. If we are witnessing the genuine authoritarianism/fascism that we fear, Hurting the country and the people is the sign they will point to that the program working.

The American left (and the Democrats) seemed so much more fired up in 2016 when Trump became president. Now it feels as if the Democrats are lost in the wilderness, unable to mount a counter-message to Trump's presidency 2.0 and the right in general.

Trump isn't even president yet though. What do you want Democrats to do?

He wants to make McDonald’s healthier. Cant disagree with that. Trump also used McDonald’s in his campaign, which prob why they released this pic

three year old post edited last month? interesting

the change he's proposing there feels very un-Trump/GOP like, in any case... I guess he was more focused on running for the dems back then

I’m sure Trump supporters would be delighted at the thought of taking America back to the 60s.

RFKs post is also a bit simplistic given that the early 70s also gave rise to high fructose corn syrup and subsequently, highly processed packaged foods, which had a far more deleterious effect on obesity. The seed oil narrative is a meat eater / carnivore culture thing that has taken flight in recent years.

RFK certainly has some insane takes on stuff, but not on everything, I'm sure most of us could agree that the call below would be beneficial if implemented

Kennedy calls for banning hundreds of food additives and chemicals, such as food dyes. He has called for getting ultra-processed foods out of school lunches as part of a goal to reduce the incidence of diet-related chronic diseases.

He has some good ideas that would actually make the US a lot healthier, but those get overshadowed by his extreme anti-science approach to vaccines (i. e. he doesn't believe in them).

He will not do anything that in any way harms big pharma or the big food industry in the USA...

Vaccines don't harm big pharma, they just don't make tons of money out of the common ones, unlike drugs like Viagra which are worth north of $2 billion a year

Or the Democrats could try addressing the issues of people without college education again. Only a few decades ago, the majority of that demographic voted for Dems. They didn't completely change during that period; it's more a turn the Democrats made.

Or the Democrats could just continue considering them hopeless deplorables that are out of touch with modernity and need an education. I wonder what would work better for the next elections.
I think we need to understand why people turn to the far-right. Neoliberalism has definitely played a big part in that.

Yeah, but I imagine there are very good business reasons for why McDonald's are doing what they are doing. They are not going to change their practices, because RFK Jr. suddenly had a great idea. As pointed out below that Tweet, McDonald's would for instance not be able to sell fries to vegetarians, if they fried them in animal fats. I can also only imagine that beef tallow is more expensive than seed oils.

Forcing rules and regulations onto businesses that may negatively impact their profit margins is anathema to Republicans. RFK Jr. can posture about this all he likes, but McDonald's won't care, and if he tries to force they will fight him in court.
