The Trump Presidency - Part 2

I remember discussing with one of my history teachers in university how the fall and decline of Rome happened. He accurately predicted that the US would have a similar sort of decline chaos/followed by short burst of stability and back again. But we thought it would take several decades if not centuries. But with Trumpism, there might not even be a USA ten years from now. In less than 6 weeks he's allied himself with Russia and is on the point of surrendering the USA's leadership of the so called 'free world' for good.

At one point he's going to need a military victory to distract the populace and get them to rally around the flag. I wonder which poor country is going to get the privilege of seeing the stars and stripes waving around the place.
As a South African, I am currently building my bunker!

JD should get his spine checked give all the standing up he had to do during that speech. Jaysus they’ve put a rapist on such a padestal it’s crazy.

Meanwhile, Marine Le' Pen comes out against Trump's Ukraine policy and calls the cutting of aid and weapons to Ukraine as 'Cruel'

I didn't see that coming.

Tbf, and I say this with absolute respect to the US Caf members and fellow Americans who are not like that, but a large portion of Trump's "support base" are exactly like that. Lacks class, decorum and are completely in their "America is the bestest thing ever, god's country, USA, USA, USA!" bubble.

There's an interview a few posts up on CNN where someone (I assume he' a politician) calls Trudeau "governor" on television and he doesn't even get corrected - they have a giggle/grin about it when it is mentioned. That sums up the state of MAGA.

I’m sure the hardcore MAGA dingbats are loving his “straight talking”. Was thinking in more general terms. Obviously anyone who voted for the Dems will be appalled but there’s surely a big chunk of red America who sees him rambling on like a demented huckster and also dies a little bit inside? This bitter orange buffoon is how we present ourselves to the world? Really?!?

You have that in most if not all countries. It just happens these types live in the most influential and powerful one.

She’s also against them gaining NATO membership. But she’s in the opposition in France isn’t she?

We’re going to set a new national record for how fast our country can fold. It took hours against Germany in 1940. This one could be over in minutes.
I suppose a phonecall would do it? "Ms. Frederiksen, a plane is landing in Nuuk in an hour with a squad of navy Seals and the new military Governor of the great associated state of Greenland. Please tell your local authorities to cooperate" I don't suppose she could do much more than tell the local troops and police to do as they're told.

You’re very British for an Irishman

Yeah, there would be nothing we could do, but the diplomatic fall-out would be big. For one it would be the end of NATO.

Requires 2/3

There are ways of circumventing this though. Like in the case of Trump withdrawing from the Open Skies Treaty the DOJ could provide a legal opinion that the law is unconstitutional and so challenge Congress to take it to court. It would then be up to Congress whether they did so, and consequently for the Supreme Court - not Congress - to decide.

No doubt. But that's maybe what him and his people want? Remove American troops from European soil and have himself called the president of peace for bringing the 'boys back home'?

Probably. NATO means nothing to Trump, that much is clear. He's probably going to manufacture excuses to get out of it, and then roll out the "We're saving billions and billions", which his supporters will eat up, while Putin smiles in the Kremlin.

For the record, in terms of Ukraine the left & right in Europe are in agreement.

Not fully. AfD and BSW in Germany are Russian asset parties and together received ~25% of the votes in the recent election and then there's also Hungary with a far-right government that's very obviously in Putin's pocket as well.

Though AfD is too extreme even for its European equivalents and Hungary is more or less isolated in the EU as well.

I know things aren't perfect right now but I would rather have my entire lifetime of MAGA candidates winning every presidential election from here until 2074 than China gaining more geopolitical relevance.

 Brilliant!

There are some pretty concerning soft pro-Russia tendencies in the far left in certain countries - primarily among the parties that originate directly from communist parties.

Will be fun.

Yeah, I remember mentioning this in the WC 2026 thread some months ago. Just wait for the Beloved Leader to find out the biggest event in sport is being shared with Mexico and Canada and he'll start tweeting. No way that a corrupt lightweight like Infantino doesn't fold like a house of cards.

I get what you're saying but anyone who voted for Trump - can't seriously tell me they're surprised by anything, right? Even the so called "center right" Republicans, IMO.

True, but the comment was about Trump/America. I also don't specifically think majority of the countries have as big a % of their population so "proudly USA, USA...". Sure, patriotism exists, but I tend to find Americans way more in their own bubble then most other countries. All just an opinion, of course.

Take away the World Cup from Canada and Mexico!

I think it's possible, yes. He's such an attention seeking twat that he might question why the US shares games with Mexico and Canada.

I don't think it's come to his attention yet that the event is coming and it's magnitude, but when it does, I'm sure he won't be indifferent to it.

The constant need for praise, greatest this, greatest that, is beyond madness for someone in his position. I've seen some daft shit before, but the constant getting up and applauding, Trump with his "they say i'm the greatest ever", is some of the worst shit i've ever watched.

I get that tensions might run high and all that during elections, but it's beyond me how someone can actively choose to be this much of an absolute cnut after winning.

It’s excruciating. Even the most vocal critics know they have to constantly pander to his monstrous ego if they want any chance of a constructive relationship. The Trudeau speech was very good but even he included a load of references to the “big things” the insufferable orange gobshite has achieved. It’s so hard to watch.
