The Trump Presidency - Part 2

I’m rather loving watching the US self destruct.

One of the longest running imperial powers is being systematically deconstructed by Trump and his band of merry men and women.
They won't self destruct though. They're literally too big to fail and everyone will bow to them eventually.

It's fecking infuriating.

they're too big to fail because they hold the world's reserve currency, buy the world's products, and have by far the biggest stick to wave around.
biden weaponised the reserve currency to unprecedented levels vs russia, now MAGA believes that holding this currency is some kind of charity and are talking of writing off some debts and using the power of the US government to guarantee ... crypto. they are erecting massive barriers to foreign products. and their utter refusal to stand by their clients and allies (except one) is prompting worldwide re-armament.
not sure when it will happen. but for the first time i believe this empire is going to fall.

Russia doesn't have anything the US needs, nor are Russia interested in helping the US in any away. The only conclusion is that Putin has something on Trump and Trump is compromised.
Russia would be more than happy with the US dropping out of NATO.

Not sure about that. They won't fail over night that's for sure, but they're uniting almost all of their strongest allies against them currently, as well as making a good fist of tanking their previously thriving economy. In a country that is rife with injustice and inequality it won't take much to set off their internal divisions so it's about as dangerous a game as could be played right now. If the next 4 years were to carry on along the same lines then they could really be in trouble. Putin must be pissing himself right now.

As Mr Trump (the Premier of Canada's 14th Province/Territory) will know - you can't sell what people don't want to buy. Has he answered the question as to why there is this huge American appetite for fentanyl and if he's worried about that what is he doing to lessen/eliminate the problem?

I must admit i'm concerned about the possibility that the nutjob will declare that they're pulling USA out of NATO

“And here to help me make this huge announcement so huge, maybe the biggest announcement ever I dunno… vlad, good to see ya pal”

This is the problem with American journalism. You let this guy call Trudeau a Governor instead of correcting him and saying he’s the prime minister. They let these people get away with it. Fecking joke.

Yes. A member of Congress calls the prime minister of a sovereign state “governor” and the journalist is laughing. That’s unbelievably low level from Hunt.

I must admit i'm concerned about the possibility that the nutjob will declare that they're pulling USA out of NATO
You’re not wrong to be concerned. I am too.

Free speech as long as you tow the party line. Great stuff comrade Trump, learning from his friend Vladimir how it is done, no doubt.
It's aimed at the pro-Palestine protests.

And it's only a slightly worse version of what the Dems were already doing.

His interviews are baffling. People ask him completely normal, rational questions and he refuses to answer them and instead starts saying "That's a nasty question and you're a nasty person and you shouldn't be here!"

Then his supporters cheer and he either starts talking to someone else, or just walks out.

I've never seen anything like it. What a shitshow.

Can’t believe you’re watching that shit. More power to you. I’m close to drunk and you still couldn’t pay me to watch it. He’ll, I’ve got the Irish version of Zillow downloaded and open right now.
I'm watching so I can argue with the 70 year old trump apologists at work tomorrow.

"America is back" followed by USA chants. What a congress. Just as pathetic as their elected dictator. What a disgusting shit show.

Requires a Supermajority to remove USA from NATO.

I very much doubt it. I reckon all it requires is the DOJ to advance the opinion that the 2024 law was unconstitutional and challenge Congress to sue them in court. Wouldn't be too far removed from their prior opinions on Trump exiting NAFTA and the Open Skies Treaty.

Supermajority of the Senate or an act of Congress. The latter doesn't need a supermajority.
No but the latter can just be fillibustered to shit.

It was Marco Rubio himself who put forward the bill. A new bill that leaves NATO will basically not have the support of the 6 pretty traditional cons in senate.

As much feckery as has happened and bill that congressionally passed house and senate bipartisanlly with supermajorities is very difficult to argue to the supreme court as being unconsitutional.

The senate vote was 87 13

The only other thing that comes close to being this bipartisan is when it comes to Israel

The future of NATO is in those senators hands then.
