The Trump Presidency - Part 2

I really do think democracy has finished in the US. There’s not going to be anything like a functioning government come the next election in two years let alone 4 years. There’s no accountability so expect the midterms to be Russian like with all but deep blue states reporting 60%+ in Republican favour.
I agree. Wouldn’t put it past Trump to try to stay in office beyond his term. The lack of opposition or any fight against the stuff happening in America is a disgrace.

It's turned quite fanatic, and there's very little reaction towards the presidential pardons being handed out.

The biggest thing that I believe has doomed all countries holding on of their norms is social medias ability to make everything a conspiracy and make people feel like they are playing an "ARG". Just look at this DOGE stuff, its the bedrock of the whole administration. They are simply (illegally no doubt) firing people and cutting programs on an industrial scale. But how is this presented to the public and through the administration?

It's presented through social media posts, which are written as if they "hacking the government" and "finding corruption". They aren't, they are just cutting things and then lying and claiming there is X/Y/Z conspiracy behind it. But by posting it on social media, and people get to interact directly with these people, they believe they are actually part of the "game". When you combine social media, conspiracy theories, gamify the interactions and glorify anti-intellectualism, this is the result. The insitutions and norms crumble because they are not built for the second "printing press" and exploited by those seeking to do the most harm.

I mean, if you want a bit of conspiracy theories just factor in the people supporting Trump and the social media companies involved.

This thread goes exactly as you'd expect it to.

Any cost savings will no doubt be made up and then some once private companies start taking over what they did before or to undo the damage done. Not to mention the tax plan that conveniently gets forgotten about that will add a multifold of that back to the national debt. Cutting things is the easy part.

I read a post about Trump wanting to win the Nobel Peace Prize because Obama wants one hence his looking like forcing Ukraine to accept any deal so he can get credit. The fecking orange Cnut.
He still won't get one so I'm guessing Sweden will be a target in the near future

Indeed. If you're not a healthy, unambiguously white (preferably with strong nordic features), heterosexual male working in the private sector, I think it's not a nice place to be.
I’m neither of those and i live just wonderfully. So do many who aren’t that at all. Do you live here?

The Dems were the GOP up until Nixon's Southern Strategy.

Also, fiscal deficit wise, whilst its a complete distraction, historically both Dems and Republicans have been the same

https://www.thebalancemoney.com/us-deficit-by-year-3306306

In recent years, the deficit has been much larger under Democratic administrations than Republican ones.
Because there have been more Democratic administrations, when you look at it per 4 year terms the GOP's is higher though not by much in real terms

Is it though?

Biden's and Obama's have been way higher as a GDP% (Which is what really matters) than Trump I, Dubya.

Since 2000 there has been 3 terms of GOP Presidents and 3 terms of Dem presidents. Not counting the 1 month Trump has been in charge.

Dubya's first term averaged a 0.3% deficit.

Dubya's second term average a 2.18% deficit.

Obama's first term averaged a 7.45% deficit

Obama's second term averaged a 3.95% deficit.

Trump's first term averaged a 3.73% deficit

Biden's first term averaged a 9.5% deficit.

So GOP 3 terms = 2.07% deficit average

Dem 3 terms = 6.96% deficit average

It's pretty conclusive that based on 4 year terms average, the Dems are wayyyy higher deficit spenders than the GOP.

He proverbially grabbed anyone by the pussy, bullying and strong arming the whole world. Can't say his method doesnt work.

This wont end with Trump. He's just the first in line

Forget the democracts, are the people also just taking it? I would have thought that there would be massive protests and activism on the ground but haven’t heard about anything.

Problem is that America is ripe for the picking. The country is too large and fragmented and with the insane sprawl we have on top of it - good luck getting enough people together in any place outside a NYC or San Francisco, or college campuses. That's also why the whole strategy to dismiss the more dense urban areas and said college towns as liberal hellholes is an effective one bc it's easy for those in the burbs or further out to pretend its not the world they live in. It's too easy to isolate yourself from things in a way or pretend it doesn't affect you imminently. It's one of the things that's hardest to explain to Europeans in particular bc they see what happens in DC and think the average American gives what happens federally a lot of their time of day. They don't.

It's also a country that has never really seen the level of conflict much of the world has within its own borders over hundreds of years in many cases which I think only adds to the general apathy.

A DOGE equivalent has little chance of thriving or being successfully applied in Europe, no matter who's at the helm and despite the massive attacks on democracy through social media.

The real advancement level of a country can only be judged based on three fundamentals: health, justice and education.

This US administration is the result of decades of a subpar educational level on average, a failed healthcare and a completely skewed judicial system. That's not even talking about an obsolete electoral process that massively relies on legal bribery and has been turned into a circus. The US institutions are crumbling because of this.

Trump didn't happen overnight and is a symptom, not the cause.

And that leads to the question of what Obama and Biden were taking control of when they came into office…

Trump on Ukraine:

"I hear that they're upset about not having a seat, well, they've had a seat for three years and a long time before that. This could have been settled very easily," he said.

"You should have never started it. You could have made a deal," he later added.

That is the actual quote from this idiot. Who the feck says that line about a country has been invaded by another. This should be thrown in the faces of those Trump supporting politicans and plastered everywhere. I’m sure they will have their excuses ready. What an absolute cnut.

Additionally the piss poor media have been responsible as well. Too worried about being banned, they’ve asked him feck all tough questions about anything and not responded to any lies he’s said. What America needs is decent opposition politicans and a media which can hold the administration accountable. It has feck all hence why like others have said it’s ripe for this type of Government.

Exactly. Context matters. Obama was pulling us out of a recession and Banking crisis. Biden had to get us out of the global inflation and Covid mess trump left us with. That 100% matters. And hopefully if a Democrat can win the next election there's going to be another mess to clean up after this once again.

I didn’t expect fascism to be so goofy and pathetic.

But then the Nazi leaders were a bunch of goofy, pathetic weirdos.

So I should have.
