The Trump Presidency - Part 2

I'd love to know if this retirement limestone mine story is actually true.

Donald is looking oranger than ever.

It's all so fecking weird. Musk in the Oval office standing over the president of the USA pontificating to the world and if that wasn't bizarre enough, he's doing it with a fecking kid on his shoulders.
This image will be iconic in the decades to come. The day when a billionaire overshadowed the president of the United States. The allegedly most powerful man in the world who sat there like a little kid listening to daddy speak.

It would have cost a lot of money and additional personal to digitalize all of that papers and reorganize. So instead of investing big they probably went on with the old system as it was at that moment cheaper than changing it.

Wait until he hears about the cheese mines!

You're a communist!!

I'm not paid a pittance, indeed I would find it hard to get another job doing the same thing for anything near what I earn now

I get more than 40 paid days off per year, and that's in the USA, I have the choice to work at an office or at home or a combination, as a whole the company employs around 30K people, of the 7K or so in the division I work in around 10% of those have worked there more than 20 years and at least another 10-15% have been there more than a decade - I doubt most of these folks feel abused

And still with the great salary you might have and the 40 days off per year they could pay you more and have millionaire (maybe B) benefits. Don't get me wrong, I am paid decently above average, specially for the hard skills I have and if we compare it with other jobs, and specially other countries it is stupid to call it abuse. It is a error on my part to qualify it with this word because millions of people could come and say "I will show you abuse". And they would be right

What I meant, if we don't get lost in semantics is that if someone that works from home from a big corporation and it decides to slack a bit at a given time but generally delivers and does what it needs to be done when matters, I will not cry for the big company because the worker doesn't give 110% x 40 hours a week (let alone 50 or 60).

There's a few articles from 2014 saying they did try to digitalise it but gave up. It's a bit weird but I'm not sure it stops anyone from retiring like he claimed.

Worrying reports about the US president teaming up with a powerful man from outside party politics to subvert established bureaucracies and remake them for his own bloody ends, with far-reaching secret agendas that the even Congress isn't aware of, with an increasing danger of world annihilation, a pliant military ready to do his questionable and brutal bidding, and with an obsessive hatred of student anti-war protestors.

Of course this is about Nixon and Kissinger taking on the State and Defence departments over Vietnam, Cambodia, and China.
(Listening to a cambodia podcast right now).

e - probably more for the religion thread or the thread after the latest islamist attack, but Lon Nol's government is now the 3rd mass-murdering Buddhist movement I've heard of, (targeting ethnic Vietnamese for massive pogroms), after Sri Lanka vs the Tamils and Myanmar vs the Rohingyas.

NGL that would be pretty juicy but Trump promised roughly the same last time and it never happened. My guess is at the highest levels of the intelligence services there was still sane people that were capable of explaining the importance of keeping those files secret and fighting that corner. It just depends whether those people still exist and whether they still have the authority to compete with Trump/Musk whims.

There doesn't seem anyway Trump will get rid of Musk. He literally bought the election for him, this isn't even comparable to a Bannon type situation. He has over a barrel and now wants to collect the debt by having free reign in the Government while Trump sits there like a moron signing orders over paper straws.

The lack of checks and balances in the so called 'largest democracy in the world' is a joke. The President signing Executive Orders, Musk having free reign where there is clear conflicts of interest, employees being dismissed and made redundant on a whim and literally no opposition provided at all. Absolute joke.

My guess is that Elon straight up pays him X million of dollars from insider trading. Nothing ideological or fancy.

Trump is all about money, and probably taking the piss while he's at it. Because why not. It got him there in the first and second place. Can't say his shenagigans dont work

American exceptionalism ends here....

It's no different to any other industry like banking that all cost benefited that it's better to digitise paper. The cost argument doesn't add up if it's been looked at in the last decade. My guess would be it's been held back and slowed down locally to save the jobs.

Unfortunately Musk will end up finding 'wins' like this because everyone knows inefficiencies exist in most organisations never mind public bodies where it's rife and change is slow.

I wonder if history will remember Musk as a type of Rasputin figure to the US government. A lot hinges on the ultimate outcome of the next 4 years but it's an interesting thought.

Who dresses their kid up like Del Boy and takes over the Presidents office. Trump looks a bit pissed off to me though and surely he won’t like Musk taking the limelight off him.

The friendship surely will not last 6 months with their collective egos and the fallout will be epic.

Why is the kid doing the SIUUUUU celebration there?

This new EO signed today appears to create DOGE as a shadow government across the entire federal government. Each agency/dept will be assigned a DOGE minder who will work with the Secry or Director and essentially be in charge of all new hiring and/or firing. People have been saying the Elon is President. But this new EO actually seems to make Elon as head of DOGE functionally the President or perhaps something more like a Prime Minister. The head of every govt agency or department will know report to a DOGE operative assigned to the agency/dept by Musk.

So there are now party political officers in every department which are the final say.

Inflation in January: 0.5%. That’s very high. But, while I’m not optimistic, I suggest not to rush to conclusions before we get more numbers.

As for the mockery that they’re making of our institutions: predictable. America has voted for this man, and it’s time to live with the consequences of this choice, good, bad or terrible.
