The Trump Presidency - Part 2

Size of military, wealth, and CIA having sticky fingers in every country goes a long way
Yep, getting old enough to see these plays over a longer period of time it's definitely eye opening. I get why so many of the older generation tapped out after seeing so much change in their lives, repeating cycles, dance of nations, trends and changes in culture, march of technologies and 'progress'... Christ I'm getting old!

It's not all bad....

One trader made 109 million in 2 days.

Early Crypto Traders Had Speedy Profit on Trump Coin as Others Suffered Losses
Some traders made tens of millions off a new cryptocurrency launched by President Trump and his sons. Many others lost out.
“The president is participating in shady crypto schemes that harm investors while at the same time appointing financial regulators who will roll back protections for victims and who may insulate him and his family from enforcement,” said Corey Frayer, who recently left a post as a crypto adviser to the Securities and Exchange Commission.

That weird feeling when all the drunken rambling your pops used to have about the USA actually turned out kind of on point.

You're more optimistic than me. They're just as likely to be hagiographies as they are critical given the current bent of the world.

I reckon we can safely assume that ketamin-ridded Elon Musk and his merry band of mega-geeks gutting through decades old institutions with absolutely no due-process will be filed alongside the likes of McCarthyism in the pile of giant fecking turd's that democracy has managed to shit out thus far.

My first takeaway is holy shit the PhD stipend has doubled since I graduated???

Can't speak for everywhere, but at a university in NC I was *just* short of 30k from 2015-20, and reached something like 31 in the last year (2021). Virtually the same salary whether or not I taught (weirdly, a tiny pay decrease when I taught...???).
They promised a substantial pay bump after there was a unionisation drive, I think going up to 36k by 2024 or something.
Also 2015, I got an offer of about 25k from a SUNY college, which would probably have been very tight.

At a university in NYC, I know about 2022 onwards, the base is in the low 40s, but TAship bumps it up by 5k/course. Both these are after a unionisation drive too.

Did hear there were a lot of 16-20k offers from non-science departments in NC.

Anyone seen Mussolini: Son of the Century, the new Italian (and Sky) series? It's extremely well made, but watching it is not going to make you very optimistic about the future of American politics.

Really want to watch this but can't find a link for a torrent that I should absolutely avoid.

Any good?
Seen it advertised and thought there would be many similarities to the current administration.

Started grad school in 2002 and pay was around 18. Some schools (looking at you Florida State) were offering 15. I think we were around 22 when I left in 2009

I can just hear some of the locals being interviewed by Fox saying something along the likes of "It's all part of God's plan"
When you confront God and science, kids die

fecking hell hadn't seen this clip before and its scary as hell. Undercover recording of Russ Vought- the new budget director under Trump:

In case we needed more proof they are literally enacting Project 2025 to the letter.

Yeah, having the main architect of Project 2025 as the director of OMB is crazy.

I bet a lot of Trump voters don't even realize how radical Project 2025 is. Just on economics alone, they are discarding established and proven economic orthodoxy in everything from monetary policy, arguing for the return of the freaking gold standard and removing the imperative for the Fed to target full employment to the tax code. And that's not even getting into slashing spending programs that are an unequivocal proven success like Head Start and the insane social conservative garbage they want to pursue. This isn't traditional conservatism anymore, its full blown crackpot white nationalism. They really are going to crash the US economy from within while the wealthiest make cash grabs and religious conservative nutters set social policy.

Youth getting pretty Trumpy

How the flying feck has it gone up! The comparisons with Germany 90 years ago only increase.
Yes that has been very concerning. It also yet again shows why they attack education when you compare gains under those without a degree.
Exactly. They attack education because they want a brainwashed population that won’t be able to see their faults.

That ship has already sailed, by the time the real effects take place this adminsitration will be gone

I’m not American, but generally speaking, as man in his early 30s it saddens me that we seem to have lost the generation after us to the far right

I remember that a few months back everybody was of the opinion that youth was overwhelming democrat and calling stupid certain polls that said otherwise

I don't remember this but it's dumb AF statement. Most of the online crowd (which is almost all) has been on heavy dosage of Peterson and Rogan.

I just found this very subtle link to modern politics. He said it in English.

(he's always talking to the camera, that's a main feature of the show)
