The Trump Presidency - Part 2

There are many people who feel that way. Honest intentions, trying to improve life for all but so many are swayed by populism and conspiracy theorists into siding with those who stand for policies that are against their own interests against people who are well meaning. It is so frustrating that I sometimes wonder why the "liberals" or "lefts" don't use the same tools to manipulate the masses into deciding in their interests in a "the end justifies the means" way. Then I wonder if that could be the reason why so many powerful/rich people who once campaigned for climate protection and progressive policies now stand by Trump. Maybe they've just given up on accomplishing their goals by convincing people who don't want to be convinced and now try to see their agendas through in different ways like Musk who used to be all about climate protection. Then the cynic in me takes over again.
Yeah pretty much. Hard to fight populism with anything other than populism.

I hope the "normal" side doesnt stoop to that level though.

I suppose once it becomes clear that the President will simply tell the SCOTUS to go feck themselves anytime they rule against him, the justices will be inclined to fall in line with Trump or risk becoming marginalised and irrelevant.
With the SCOTUS having a conservative bias for the foreseeable future, I think it is in the benefit of Trump/MAGA/GOP to not ignore their ruling in the unlikely event that it decides against Trump.

Cause as we have seen, parties in power tend to change quite often in the US. A strong SCOTUS benefits GOP.

Despite all the unnerving of the last few weeks I was still still a bit unsettled upon seeing that De Niro, a once unafraid and forceful critic of Trump, is now seemingly self censoring on the topic:

Someone of his stature who was so bold in past years no longer wanting to be seen as a critic of Trump is heavily suggestive of how dangerous the landscape is right now.

They are promoting a movie. I am sure they gave him clear instructions. I don't think he would have any problem in another circumstances. Also, he doesn't need to be always at those expectations

I think the journalist reaches an incorrect conclusion there.

It reads like Netflix are the ones who want the censoring, not self-censoring.

No thanks.

The UK is a US vassal and its trojan horse in Europe. It always has played its own game, with its own rules. There's a reason why De Gaulle never wanted it in the EU in the first place.

De Gaulle has somehow become a cult hero these past weeks. I have never seen De Gaulle mentioned positively as often in english text.

It also is quite bizarre since this pertains to events decades ago in a completely different geopolitical landscape.

I'm not sure what you read here. It explicitly says at the start of the article that Netflix told the journalist not to talk about anything political, that there are two publicists at the interview to watch over that, and that those people chime in multiple times when the journalist does ask about Trump, and eventually warn that the interview will end if the journalist doesn't change topic.

I don't know how you can put that on De Niro - except if your point were that he could have chosen not to do the interview. But then that would've been part of the deal for this role. De Niro might rather have figured he can anyway go back to criticizing Trump as soon as he's out of this show's context.

It does show that Netflix is another company that puts business before morals though. But then I haven't ended my subscription either, so I can't say much on that topic.

Trump really is playing this as a "I will do what I want considering I can't run for office in 4 years again" literally everyday it's something, soon there won't be a government left to manage and we all wondered how a Casino could be burnt to the ground, here's your answer, America is Trump Casino.

Yes, but also it's not that much different from the first term. A lot more extreme petty stuff this time for sure - but the volume of shit as a whole doesn't feel that much different. If only people paid attention then because it feels like they really didnt. At least in his first term however he had people with the guts to stand up to him and he was in a position where he needed others to go along with things. Now he doesn't.

To be honest, everything sounds so scary. I don't ever heard anything of what Musk and his Gestapo are doing in the first term

We're still all getting our news from X, one the tools of our destruction, me included.

This is insanity right?

Have any figures been released around how much Space Karen will save the US Govt over the next few years yet?
